Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of Gregory's books was made into a 2003 TV movie in the UK, starring Natascha McElhone and Jodhi May?

Answer: The Other Boleyn Girl

"The Other Boleyn Girl" was also made for the big screen in 2007. Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman star in the more recent version.
2. Which book covers the reigns of Mary I and Edward VI?

Answer: The Queen's Fool

Hannah Green, a Spanish-born Jew fleeing from the Inquisition, ends up at the English court and becomes fast friends with each of the three Tudor children. The book starts at the end of Edward's reign and ends at Elizabeth I's succession.
3. How did Amy die in "The Virgin's Lover"?

Answer: Murder

No one knows the real cause of Amy Dudley's death, although most historians are agreed that her husband Robert was not involved. The trial formed to find the cause of her death in 1560 found accidental death.
4. What was the name of Mary's first child in "The Other Boleyn Girl" and who was he/she named after?

Answer: Catherine Carey, named for Queen Katherine of Aragon

An interesting thing to point out is that although Philippa Gregory claims that both Henry and Catherine were Henry VIII's children and has Mary believe this to be true, in real life no one really knew, although Mary would always claim Will Carey was the father of them both.
5. In "The Constant Princess", the name of the palace that Katherine of Aragon talks about so fondly is "Granada".

Answer: False

Katherine would always tell Arthur stories of this majestic Moorish palace in Granada, captured by her parents Ferdinand and Isabella. However, Granada was only the name of the city where it was located. The actual palace was the "Alhambra".
6. Which of these men is not one of Katherine Howard's loves in "The Boleyn Inheritance"?

Answer: Thomas Howard

Thomas Howard was actually Katherine's uncle. All of the other men were later executed with Katherine for their involvement with her, even though, as far as modern historians can tell, she only cheated with one of them: Culpepper.
7. What is the name of Hannah Green's husband?

Answer: Daniel

In the last part of the book Daniel is a prisoner of the French, and so he does not play a significant role. Instead, we only see Hannah, raising his son.
8. Anne Boleyn, before being interested in Henry VIII, was sent away from court in disgrace for becoming involved with the King's advisor, Cardinal Wolsey.

Answer: False

She was involved with Henry Percy, the heir to the Earl of Northumberland. Wolsey was the one who separated them, which made Anne hate him for the rest of her life.
9. Which of these was Robert Dudley's affectionate nickname for Hannah Green?

Answer: Mistress Boy

He got this interesting nickname from Hannah's unusual clothing the first time they met. When fleeing Spain, Hannah wore men's clothing so she could go disguised as her father's apprentice and work in his printing shop with him.
10. What did Katherine of Aragon want to name her and Henry VIII's son?

Answer: Arthur

She wanted to name it after her late husband Arthur, but Henry wanted it named after him, not his brother, and decided that it would be Henry instead.
