The Pretty Little Devils, or PLDs, are the coolest girls in school. The members are Sylvia, the leader, Carolyn and Meg, the groupies, and Ellen, the nerd. They're popular and everyone wants to be one of them, especially Hazel Meyers. But she knows she could never get in, because her group of friends are proclaimed "high school C-listers". One such C-lister is Lakshmi, whose mom works at the school and gets gossip for her nerdy daughter.

Answer: After Sylvia spills soda on her

Hazel gets up from her lunch table one day and crashes head first into alpha girl Sylvia. Sylvia, however, invites Hazel to her table so she can talk about buying a replacement shirt for Hazel. Soon Hazel gets invited to a PLD party. She is thrilled...until she finds out the price of popularity. Little do all of the PLDs know that someone is writing an anonymous blog about all of the PLDs. Signed by "Happy2BMe", it says that all the PLDs will pay for being popular and mean.

At the party, Hazel finds out that Ellen is dating Brendan, Sylvia's ex-boyfriend. Later she finds out that Sylvia and Brendan used to hook up, and that Sylvia wants to break them up. Outside Ellen ends up dumping Brendan because he said something mean about Meg a long time ago.

Answer: Matty

Hazel starts to date Matty, but Breona Wu, a cheerleader, is jealous. She makes a scene in science when she tells everyone Hazel stole a carnation from the cheerleading squad. Actually, Hazel had gotten it from Matty. Breona also paints Matty's number on her cheek at a football game. She starts acting rude to Hazel all the time, and she makes another scene at a dance.

The PLDs love to play tricks on each other but soon they get mean calls that aren't a joke. They can't figure out who they're from. They also get rude text messages from someone called Yrsecretpal. Finally they decide it's probably Breona Wu because she and Sylvia have been enemies forever.

She hates the PLDs because they got her kicked out of school, and she hates Hazel for dating Matty.

Answer: Breona

Breona is found dead after a dance, and many people are immediately suspected, even the PLDs. But soon Matty is taken into custody because they think he killed Breona. He swears he didn't, but Hazel doesn't know who to believe. Everyone starts thinking that Matty killed Breona, because of the fight that they got in outside of the dance.

Then Sylvia shows Hazel a file that says Matty was a stalker at his old school. Hazel believes Sylvia and starts saying she doesn't like Matty anymore.

Answer: The PLDs

The PLDs are planning on playing a mean trick on Ellen one night. They go to the house where she is babysitting because they have a spare key and bring a giant stuffed animal that Brendan gave Ellen. When Ellen comes in they start saying that they're going to kill her.

But then someone else comes in the house and everyone gets scared. Ellen can't see anything and thinks it's a killer and hits the person with a bat. Then she finds out it's Brendan. The reason he was inside the house was because he had received a text message from someone named Yrsecretpal telling him to come.

Answer: Sylvia

Sylvia begins to become a suspect because Breona, her enemy, and Brendan, her ex, were both killed, and she acted insensitively about both deaths. Everyone starts to think that she is the killer and the PLDs are going to turn her in to the police. They start avoiding her and constantly talk about her and why she's the killer.

Answer: Meg

The PLDs, excluding Sylvia, plan to meet before school and turn Sylvia in to the police. Hazel comes and finds Meg standing there...dead. She can't believe it. When Ellen and Carolyn find out, they think Sylvia killed Meg to stop her from telling that Sylvia was the killer.

Then they think Sylvia's been listening in on their phone calls the entire time. They get in a giant fight at Meg's funeral and yell that Sylvia is the killer. Then they find out that Sylvia hid Brendan's body because she thought she'd be blamed for the crime.

They end up catching her and calling the police.

Answer: Ellen

At the end of the book, Sylvia goes to jail, and the PLDs break up. Carolyn ends up coming out and hanging out with a new group of friends. Hazel goes back to original group and Lakshmi becomes sort of popular because Hazel is her friend. Ellen has no friends and starts asking Hazel to hang out with her, but Hazel doesn't want to.

Then Lakshmi gets hit by a car and the anonymous blog is signed as "Happy2BEllen".
