Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How old was Roland D. LeBay when he sold his 1958 Plymouth Fury to Arnie Cunningham?

Answer: 71 years old

Dennis Guilder, Arnie's Cunningham's friend who was with Arnie when he bought the Plymouth, calculated Roland LeBay's age from dates that LeBay had told the boys to figure out why old man was selling his car. At the age of seventy in Pennsylvania, people had to take an eye exam to renew their driver's license. Dennis speculated that LeBay had either taken the test and failed or was afraid of failure. Either way, Dennis thought that was why the Plymouth was being sold.
2. What brand of vehicle did Arnie's father Michael own?

Answer: Porsche

Michael Cunningham owned a Porsche while his wife, Regina, owned a Volvo.
3. What was the name of Roland LeBay's sister?

Answer: Marcia

Marcia lived in Colorado and did not attend her brother's funeral.
4. After LeBay's funeral, Dennis met George LeBay, the younger brother of Roland. At their meeting, George told Dennis a bit of background information on his older brother, Rollie. Dennis is surprised to discover that Roland LeBay had had a wife and child. Rita was the name of his wife- true or false?

Answer: False

Rita was the name of Roland LeBay's daughter. She choked to death on the side of a road at the age of six. George LeBay told Dennis that he believed his brother had tried to help Rita, but later in the book, George said that he also believed that Roland had let Rita die. Veronica was the actual name of Rollie LeBay's wife.

She committed suicide six months after her daughter's death in her husband's '58 Plymouth Fury, Christine.
5. There were five boys who were in on the plan to trash Christine. Buddy Repperton, Don Vandenberg, Moochie Welch, and Richie Trelawney were four of them. Who was the fifth?

Answer: Sandy Galton

While Sandy Galton didn't actually damage Christine personally, he knew about the plan and allowed Buddy and his other friends destroy Arnie's car. After Christine was wrecked, he left the state in his Mustang.
6. Who was the first person Christine killed?

Answer: Moochie Welch

Moochie Welch was murdered on the Thursday after Thanksgiving, the last day of November.
7. At times, Christine would only pick up one radio station. What was it?

Answer: WDIL

Sometimes, no matter what station the dial was turned to, all Christine would pick up was WDIL, the oldies station.
8. How did Arnie's girlfriend, Leigh Cabot, almost die at Christmas time?

Answer: Choking on a McDonald's hamburger

Leigh Cabot choked on a hamburger while in Christine. This was the same way that Roland LeBay's daughter Rita died. If it hadn't been for the hitchhiker she and Arnie had picked up earlier who performed the Heimlich Maneuver on her, Leigh *would* have died. While Leigh choked, she saw that the dashboard lights had become eyes and knew that Christine was alive.
9. What was the hitchhiker's name?

Answer: Barry Gottfried

Before he saved Leigh's life while she choked, he told her that he got bad vibes from Christine. He was claustrophobic and told Leigh that he got an extreme case of claustrophobia in the Plymouth.
10. Where were Buddy, Richie, and Bobby Stanton murdered?

Answer: Squantic Hills State Park

Christine chased them down in Squantic Hills State Park, which was closed for the winter. Bobby Stanton was the first to die. He had not been in any way involved in the destruction of Christine. Bobby was just a freshman at the time and had just been along for the ride with Buddy and Richie on Tuesday, December 12.
11. What was the name of the detective that interrogated Arnie and Will Darnell?

Answer: Junkins

Rudolph Junkins talked to Arnie on at least two occasions in Darnell's garage. His partner was a man named Rick Mercer.
12. After Buddy's death, the detective working on the case visited Arnie. He told Arnie that he knew that a red car had been involved in both murders (the other murder being Moochie Welch's). The police had found traces of red paint on a broken barrier where Buddy and co. had died and also traces of red paint embedded in Moochie Welch. The police sent the traces to Washington to determine the shade of red. What shade of red were both traces?

Answer: Autumn Red

When Junkins told Arnie this, Arnie said that Christine *was* Autumn Red, but she was a custom job. He then went on to say that Ford and Chevrolet offered Autumn Red cars in the early '60s and in the mid-fifties, Ramblers were also available in that shade.
13. What movie was Will Darnell watching at his home just before Christine came crashing in and killed him?

Answer: A Christmas Carol

When the movie had ended, Will had decided to have a brandy before going to bed to help him sleep. He had been on his way to the kitchen when he heard Christine honking outside. (And of course, "The Santa Clause" had not even been made yet so Darnell couldn't have been watching it.)
14. Who did Dennis talk with to obtain George LeBay's address?

Answer: Richard McCandless

During their conversation, Richard McCandless told Dennis about an incident he and his friends had had with Christine and Roland LeBay.
15. On New Year's Eve, Arnie said who was probably responsible for Will Darnell's death?

Answer: Colombians

Over beers, Arnie told Dennis that Will had said that the Southern Mob was bad, but that the Colombians were worse. Later, when Arnie took Dennis home in Christine after midnight, Dennis had a horrible experience, including a trip through time and conversation with Roland LeBay's corpse.
16. At what fast food restaurant did Arnie find Dennis and Leigh together?

Answer: Kentucky Fried Chicken

After seeing the two in Dennis's Duster, Arnie ran and got into Christine. Dennis got out of his car to try to talk with Arnie, but almost got run over by Christine as Arnie tore out of the parking lot.
17. Who lent Dennis keys to Darnell's Do-It-Yourself garage?

Answer: Jimmy Sykes

Jimmy Sykes had been another assistant of Will Darnell who had looked up to Arnie. He was a bit slow, so Darnell had preferred to use Arnie to run errands rather than Jimmy.
18. Who is Petunia?

Answer: A tanker

Dennis had called a man named Johnny Pomberton who rented Petunia to Dennis. Her job had been to pump out septic systems. Petunia was hot pink in color and had once been a GM product. Dennis' idea was to bring Petunia to Darnell's to where he hoped Christine would come. He would then use Petunia to batter Christine to death.
19. The last person Christine killed before her battle with Dennis and Leigh was Michael Cunningham.

Answer: True

Dennis had told Michael to get together with his parents and Leigh's parents and stay together. Michael didn't follow Dennis' directions. From Dennis' guessing, Christine had gone to the Cunninghams' before going to the garage. Michael had seen Christine at his home and had decided to just sit behind the wheel. Christine had left for Darnell's with Michael trapped inside and he had died from carbon monoxide fumes, according to his complexion.
20. What was the name of the town in which Leigh Ackerman lived?

Answer: Taos

After Arnie and Regina died in an automobile accident, Leigh and Dennis only dated for about two years before going their separate ways. Leigh's last name became Ackerman and she moved to Taos, New Mexico. Her husband was an IBM customer service rep who drove a Honda Civic. Dennis remained single and taught at Norton Junior High.
21. Who said "Christine. I like it"?

Answer: Arnie Cunningham

Arnie says this after learning that Christine had been the name Roland LeBay had always called his car.
22. "Nuke the '58! Nuke the '58!" was said by who?

Answer: Leigh Cabot

She enthusiastically says this after Dennis says (jokingly) that he would use a bazooka on Christine if she came around Leigh's place.
23. Who said "Give that man a Kewpie doll"?

Answer: Rudolph Junkins

Junkins says this after Arnie correctly guesses why he has come to see him.
24. Who said "Oh, I didn't *see* him. Just saw Christine go out the door, you know. Boy, that's some pretty car, ain't it? He fixed it up like magic"?

Answer: Jimmy Sykes

This is one of my favorite lines in the book. What Jimmy doesn't realize as he says this is that Arnie was in Philadelphia when he saw Christine leave. Which means, no one was behind the wheel of Christine as Jimmy saw her go out.
25. Who said "Sorry, Christine"?

Answer: Dennis Guilder

Dennis says this when he arrives at Arnie's house on New Year's Eve. Dennis's father offers to take Dennis home, but, with Arnie standing there, says, "No, Arnie'll bring me home... if that rustbucket will start that is."
"Oh-oh, watch what you call my car," Arnie said. "She's very sensitive."
"Is she?" Dennis asked.
"She is," Arnie said, smiling.
Dennis turned his head and called, "Sorry, Christine."
