Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which book was not written by Stephen King under the pseudonym Richard Bachman?

Answer: Everything's Eventual

Stephen King wrote the book "Blaze" as Richard Bachman originally in 1973, before he wrote "Carrie" as Stephen King. He wrote several books and short stories under the Richard Bachman pseudonym.
2. What is the name of the main character in the book "Blaze"?

Answer: Clayton Blaisdell Jr.

I found this an interesting read as this "slow-minded criminal" (so says Stephen King in his foreword) is haunted by his crooked dead partner George as he moves forward with a terrible crime!
3. What brand of typewriter did the author write the book "Blaze" on?

Answer: Olivetti

This was said to be Tabitha King's college typewriter, by Stephen King himself in the foreword of this book! Tabitha is another favorite of mine. "Small World" is worth checking out.
4. In the book "Thinner" what is the name of the main character?

Answer: Billy Halleck

One of the things that has always attracted me to Stephen King was that the story lines seemed like they could be real, and I could always imagine them coming to life as I read his material. I suspected Bachman was King with "The Long Walk" but his book sealed the deal for me.
5. In the book "Thinner", what is the name of the friend who helps the main character track the gypsy band to try to get them to lift the curse?

Answer: Ritchie "the Hammer" Ginelli

This is a twisted character who shows no mercy in trying to get what his friends need. Even the gypsies, known for their resolve, end up fearing him. He is ultimately killed by them anyway.
6. In the book "Thinner", what dessert did the old gypsy give to the main character that would allow him to transfer the curse to another?

Answer: Pie

Billy had to add his own blood to the pie. He then woke up to find his wife and daughter had both eaten from the pie. He took a piece and ate it so he could join them in death.
7. How many contestants are participating in the event, in the book "The Long Walk"?

Answer: 100

The walk starts at the Maine/Canadian line and doesn't stop until a winner is declared. There are no stops or pauses for anything. It's grueling and turns out deadly!
8. What speed must the walkers maintain in order to not receive any warnings in the "The Long Walk"?

Answer: 4 miles per hour

If you slow down you get a warning - too many warnings you get ticketed and this isn't a good thing! Walkers can be ticketed for trying to leave the road or approaching the half-tracks.
9. How many warnings do you get before you are ticketed in the story "The Long Walk"?

Answer: 3

This isn't like getting a ticket from the local or state police, this means goodbye and adios my friend. Not a good way to go!
10. What exactly do they mean by "ticketed" in the book "The Long Walk"?

Answer: Shot to death

This story reminds me of how close we come in our society to emulating some of these actions just coming up short of the actual deeds in this story. As I mention above the story draws you in with its believability and you wonder how you would fare and how close could we be to this in any society.
