Shrewd is King and is Fitz's paternal grandfather. Eyod is King of the Mountain Kingdom and Verity is Shrewd's second son and Fitz's uncle.

Burrich put Fitz in a stable with his dog, knowing that she would protect him. Also in the stable was the pup, Nosy, who became the young Fitz's first Wit partner.

Burrich's dog is Vixen. Although Burrich claims not to use his Wit, Vixen is, in fact, his Wit partner.

Constance was the mother of the two eldest Princes, Chivalry and Verity and King Shrewd's first wife. Although it was a political marriage they did grow to love one another deeply - something Shrewd did not fully appreciate until after her death.
