Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Starting at the beginning. Who helps Fitz recover from his time of being a wolf with Nighteyes?

Answer: Burrich

Burrich lives with Fitz in an old cabin, and gradually gets him to behave less like a wolf and more like a man.
2. What leaf do Patience's guards and helpers adopt as their emblem?

Answer: Ivy

After Regal moved inland to Tradeford, Patience essentially ran Buckkeep Castle. She used her own wealth to help villages that had been raided and sent aid to Dukes up and down the coast. She frequently gave her messengers a sprig of ivy as a token from her and they became known as the 'Ivy runners'.

She gained great respect from the guards of Buckkeep for her sacrifices and they adopted the Ivy leaf on their uniforms in her honour.
3. What was the name of the Lord who was offically left in charge of Buckkeep by Regal?

Answer: Lord Bright

Although Lord Bright was, in name, in charge of the castle, it was in fact Lady Patience that came to be known as its ruler.
4. What is the name of the leader of the smugglers who promises to bring Fitz and Starling to the mountains?

Answer: Nik

After some bargaining, Fitz and Starling strike a deal to be brought safetly across the river by Nik and his helpers. Pelf is the name of Nik's sister.
5. What payment do Fitz and Starling promise in exchange for safe passage from Blue Lake to the mountains?

Answer: The freedom earring

Against Fitzs' will, Starling promises Burrich's freedom earring as payment.
6. What colour silk does Fitz use to gain access to Tradeford?

Answer: yellow

Fitz hears of Regal's anger at some poor quality yellow silk that was provided to him. Fitz masquarades as the silk maker's assistant to gain access to the palace.
7. In Tradeford, why did Fitz not die after cutting himself with his poisoned knife?

Answer: There was not enough poison on it.

Fitz chose suicide over being captured by Regal again and he cut his arm with his poisoned knife. After Verity's skill command of 'Come to me' Fitz steals Regal's horse. It is only when he is drinking at a stream that he realises he is not dead from the poison - having killed two people with that knife earlier in the day had probably taken all the poison off it.
8. Fitz steals Regal's horse to escape from Tradeford. What is the horse's name?

Answer: Arrow

Fitz steals Arrow, Regals black horse, to escape from Tradeford. Later he sets him free knowing he would travel better on foot.
9. Fitz killed Regal.

Answer: False

A ferret which had warned Fitz of a trap earlier in the book killed Regal. It was the wit partner of a man that Regal killed and was kept as a pet by Chade afterwards.
10. Why did the Outislanders intensify their raids on the Six Duchies in Verity's time?

Answer: Revenge

After King Wisdom summoned the Elderlings to help him against the Outislanders' raids, their repeated flying over the islands of the Outislanders forged many of the folk living there. The Outislanders therefore saw their attacks on the Six Duchies as revenge for this forging...attacks which were stopped by Verity-as-Dragon leading the Elderlings in flights over the Outislanders, forging more people and it would seem that the cycle is doomed to repeat itself....Read the "Tawny Man" Trilogy to find out.
