1. Miss Marple begins this chapter with her village tale. In it, half a crown was taken from whose bag?

Answer: Mrs. Trent

Miss Marple quickly tells how Mrs. Trent's cleaning lady was suspected of stealing the money even though she was innocent. She uses this to highlight the fact that being under suspicion is hardest on those who are innocent.

Sir Henry says that the man had been found at the bottom of the stairs with a broken neck. He can't prove, however, if the fall was accidental or murder.

Answer: His German cousin

Charles Templeton recieved a letter from a cousin in Germany on the morning Dr. Rosen died. Miss Marple thinks that him throwing that letter away is suspicious in a different sense of the word.
