The scene Edward Cullen describes happened just before Edward revealed himself to be a vampire. Bella had gone shopping with her friends Jessica and Angela (to get dresses for the prom) in Port Angeles. Jess and Angela decided to go for a walk, but Bella chose to go and browse in the bookshop. She couldn't find it, and ended up trapped by four men. Edward rescued her and took her to dinner.

Edward is played by Robert Pattinson in the 2008 film.

James was the main 'baddie' in "Twilight". The Cullens (and Hales) were playing ball in a clearing when three other vampires appeared - Laurent (who pretended to lead them) James, and his mate, Victoria. James was a tracker and he decided that Bella would be his next victim. The way Edward defended her only made James more eager for her blood.

James is played by Cam Gigandet in the 2008 film.

Ren�e Dwyer (once Ren�e Swan) was Bella's mother. She married Charlie (Bella's father) very quickly after graduating from high school, but soon they divorced and she left to live in California with baby Bella. After a short while, they moved to Phoenix, Arizona. Ren�e remarried to a man named Phil, and Bella left to live in Forks (which she first disliked) so Ren�e and Phil could travel together.
The diary entry is based on Ren�e's emails to her daughter.

Ren�e is played by Sarah Clarke in the 2008 film.

4. Whose diary is this? Dear Diary, I met Isabella Swan today. We'd met before when we were just kids, of course, but never properly. She seemed very interested in Doctor Cullen's family, so I told her dad's theory about the cold ones...

Jacob was Billy Black's son. Bella's Chevy (her red truck) came from his father. Bella and Charlie used to go fishing with Billy, so Bella wasn't surprised that she couldn't remember him when Charlie told her where her truck came from. This is because "[She does] a good job of blocking painful, unnecessary things from [her] memory."

5. Whose diary is this? Dear Diary, Edward and Alice are evil! Honestly, with all that's happened, I thought maybe they'd changed their minds about me being one of them! Alice had dressed up Bella, moaning when she complained - unfortunately for Bella, she didn't twig where they were going until they were in the car.

6. Whose diary is this? Dear Diary, Poor Bella! We found her earlier, in this ballet studio. She was just lying there - the look on Edward's face was terrifying. Emmett and Jasper had to leave while they were finishing off James; there was so much blood! But somehow Carlisle, Edward and I managed to stay and resist it. There was a video there too, and now I know what happened to me when I was human...

The part Alice was writing about was when Carlisle was healing Bella. Emmett and Jasper were overwhelmed by the scent of blood and had to leave the room when they killed James. Bella had a broken leg, bruises almost everywhere, a cracked skull and she had been bitten on her hand. When the Cullens realised this Edward had to suck the venom out.

Rosalie Lillian Hale was the most beautiful of all the vampires in Forks. She was the most reluctant to be a vampire and wished she could trade places with Bella. She had blond hair and (before being turned into a vampire) eyes like violets, and was described as elegant and statuesque.

Rosalie is played by Nikki Reed in the 2008 film.

8. Whose diary is this? Dear Diary, Bella arrived today. I don't know whether she liked the Chevy - sometimes it's impossible to see whether or not she's lying. Then again, she's not always very good at it. I don't know... She seemed a it skeptical when I told her it was over thirty years old. Still, good of Billy to sell it so cheap.

Charlie was Bella's dad. He used to be married to Ren�e, and still loves her at the time of the books, but he is over the fact that she loves Phil. He was the one who gave Bella her red Chevy, which (though not obvious from the diary entry) Bella said she loved, even though she wasn't entirely sure it would actually run.

Charlie is played by Billy Burke in the 2008 film.

9. Whose diary is this? Dear Diary, I went to Port Angeles today with Bella Swan and Angela to get dresses for the dance. I can't believe Bella didn't know Tyler was telling everyone he was going to the prom with her. Anyway, Bella went back with Edward Cullen. She seemed a bit...odd.

Jessica Stanley was a 'friend' of Bella's, although the extract Stephanie Meyer released from "Midnight Sun" shows her thoughts were not exactly kind towards Bella. She had a crush on Mike Newton and was jealous of Bella because he was more interested in her than Jessica. Eventually she did attract a bit of Mike's interest.

10. True or false? This diary entry is from Rosalie. Dear Diary, Uh! That Swan girl is so irritating! Apparently, she's going to the prom with Tyler. I mean, it's probably just because he nearly killed her, but who am I supposed to go with? This is so...frustrating!

This diary entry was from Lauren Mallory, a blonde, popular girl. She didn't like Bella much because Tyler said he was going to the prom with Bella, although he doesn't actually. Bella thought he was trying to make up for the time he nearly killed her in his car near the beginning of "Twilight".

Lauren doesn't appear in the film.
