Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which Cullen was nearly mauled to death by a bear before being 'rescued'?

Answer: Emmett

Emmett McCarty, the most physically imposing member of the Cullen clan, was 20 years old, living in rural Gatlinburg, Tennessee during the Great Depression when he was mauled by a large bear. His injuries were at the point of life-threatening when he was rescued by Rosalie, who was hunting in the area. Because he reminded her so much of her friend's son, she risked carrying him 100 miles to Carlisle to give him a second chance at life...as it were.
2. Which member of the Cullen family became a vampire after being declared legally dead?

Answer: Esme

Esme Platt was born in Columbus, Ohio in 1895. By the age of 26, she was in Wisconsin, married to an abusive husband named Charles Evenson, and pregnant with their first child. Fearing for the child's safety, she left Charles and gave birth to a son, but tragically he died a few days later. Grief-stricken, she attempted suicide by jumping off of a large cliff.

Her body was taken to a nearby morgue because the coroners failed to notice she was still alive. She was found by Carlisle, who remembered treating her as a child with a broken leg. Carlisle decided to give her another chance. Esme has no discernible powers to speak of, but is capable of great love and affection.
3. Which of these incredible immortals is the eldest of the Cullen family, living as far back as the 17th Century?

Answer: Carlisle

Carlisle was born in the mid 1640s in London to a pastor who moonlighted as a witch, werewolf and vampire hunter, and eventually took over in his father's footsteps. One evening, he was attacked by a vampire and left for dead. Fearing he would become an outcast to society, he fled to the sewers and endured the painfully life-changing change. Terrified of what he'd become, he attempted suicide several times, but to no avail. On one hunting trip, he fed on some deer blood and realized that he could resist humans.

He lived with the Volturi in Italy for a few decades as a 'guest', but eventually left to travel to the 'New World', where he has remained ever since. Author Stephanie Meyer has alluded that Carlisle may have created the legend of the Stregoni Benefici, a race of vampires who are actually hailed as heroes by the Italians because they fight evil.
4. Which of these vampires was nearly beaten to death as a human and left for dead before being 'reborn'?

Answer: Rosalie

The beautiful Rosalie was born in 1915 in Rochester, New York and described her human self as 'shallow, vain, and overcome with beauty'. She began dating Royce King II and was engaged to him after two months. One night, with the wedding a few days away, she came upon her very drunk fiance and his friends, who all nearly beat her to death. Carlisle was able to find her from a mile away and she was a vampire by dawn.

She later returned and exacted her revenge on Royce and his cronies, but stopped short of drinking their blood, a point of pride for her.

Despite her rescue, she has often mourned the loss of her humanity and would gladly become human again if that were possible.
5. Which of these vampires was nearly a victim of the deadly Spanish Influenza?

Answer: Edward

Edward Anthony Masen was born on June 20, 1901 and is frozen in his 17-year-old form. He was found in Chicago as a victim of the Spanish Influenza outbreak, a real-life pandemic that happened during the closing stages of World War I, killing between 50 an 100-million people worldwide.
Edward's dying mother, Elizabeth Masen, begged Dr. Carlisle Cullen to save him. He later discovered that he had the ability to read minds...except for Bella's, of course.
6. Which of the Cullen vampires served in the U.S. Civil War?

Answer: Jasper

Jasper Whitlock was born somewhere in Texas and joined the Army of the Confederacy sometime after the war broke out in 1860. Thanks to his charismatic personality, he went through the ranks really quickly. He became an immortal in 1863 by a vampire named Maria, and together they created a newborn vampire army to assist her in gaining land in Monterrey.

After about 100 years, he grew tired and joined his friend Peter and his mate, Charlotte. He later met his mate/adopted sister, Alice, in a diner in Philadelphia. Together, they sought out the Cullen family.

He still has trouble with the 'vegetarian' life style, once attacking Bella when she got a paper cut at a birthday party.
7. Which of these people is the only other person (besides Bella) to have escaped the tracker-vampire James?

Answer: Alice

Alice (born Mary Alice Brandon) was born in 1901 in Biloxi, Mississippi. She was admitted to an insane asylum due to the fact that she had 'premonitions'. She was transformed by an old vampire believed to be a custodian to protect her from James. After years of research, she found her tombstone and that the date of her death matches the date she was admitted to the asylum.
Because of her human ability for premonition, Alice now has the vampiric ability to see into the near future, but the vision is not always clear until the decision to act has become committed.
8. Okay, this one's a bit of a spoiler...which of these vampires is not really a true vampire, but half-immortal?

Answer: Renesmee

Renesmee Carlie Cullen was born on September 10, three days before Bella's 19th birthday. She is the half-vampire daughter of Isabella Marie Swan Cullen and Edward Cullen. Her first name, Renesmee, is a combination of the names of grandmothers Renee (Bella's mom) and Esme (Edward's adoptive mom).

Her middle name, Carlie, is a combo of her grandfathers, Carlisle Cullen (Edward's adoptive dad) and Charlie Swan (Bella's dad). Renesmee (nicknamed 'Nessie' by Jacob Black) has a beating heart, blood in her veins, and the ability to blush. That's just the human parts.

Her skin is unbreakable, she prefers a diet of blood, and she can transmit memories through touch.
9. Which of the following vampires from the 'Twilight' saga claims to have been a Patriot from the American Revolution?

Answer: Garrett

Garrett, who appears in 'Breaking Dawn', was a former vampire nomad who joined the Denali clan after years on the road and is the mate of Denali member Kate. Despite his recent adoption of the 'vegetarian' diet, he still has the red eyes of a human hunter. Eleazar, a current member of the Denali coven, was once a member of the Volturi Guard in Italy.

He can determine the 'gifts' that a young vampire may possess. Kate has the ability to project electricity through her body. She is the one who helps Bella control her powers of blocking mental attacks from other vampires. Carmen is Eleazar's mate.
10. Which vampire clan or 'coven' can date themselves back over 3,000 years and has the current rule of law over the vampires of the world?

Answer: The Italian Volturi

The Volturi (named for their base of operations in Volterra, Tuscany in Italy) are currently the most powerful vampire clan, having overthrown the Romanian coven about 1,500 years ago. The Volturi consists of the three Volturi leaders and their wives, along with the members of the Guard who protect them. Of the leaders, Aro can see every thought a person's ever had once he has made physical contact. Marcus can tell the relationship between any two people.

It's not known what powers Caius has. Jane, a member of the Volturi Guard with her twin brother Alec, can transmit images of pain through thought alone.

Other noted Guard members include Demitri, Renata and Chelsea.
