Answer: Arathorn

Son of Arador and husband of Gilraen, he served as chieftain of the Dúnedain for only three years. When Aragorn was only two, Arathorn was killed while hunting orcs by an arrow through the eye.

He was bred in the pits of Angband by Morgoth, was slain by Eärendil in the War of Wrath, and cast upon the towers of Thangorodrim, breaking them with his awesome weight.

Answer: Azog

Azog killed the dwarf-lord Thrór (grandfather of Thorin Oakenshield) and set off the great war between Orcs and Dwarves. He was slain by Dain at the battle of Azanulbizar.

Answer: Aldarion

Aldarion, husband of Erendis, white lady of Númenor, was enamoured of the sea. He spent more time off the island than on it, causing much pain for his wife, who eventually left him. In his time, Gil-Galad was first openly assailed by Sauron in the Middle-Earth, yet Aldarion sent no help.

Answer: Quenya name for Galadriel

She was the daughter of Eärwen and Finarfin. In the Second Age, Galadriel became Queen of Lórien, with Celeborn as her king. Galadriel wore the third elven-ring, Nenya, the ring of adamant. She returned to Valinor in the end of the Third Age.

Arwen Undómiel was only the third (maybe fourth) documented elf to wed a mortal man. She wedded King Aragorn to become Queen of Gondor, and chose to forsake her immortality to die in the middle-earth F.A. 121, one year after Aragorn's death.

When the Witch-King's armies swept across Arthedain, Aranarth escaped with his father, Arvedui (last-king), and fled into Lindon. He fought with Eärnur to avenge the loss of his father's kingdom, but became chief of a scattered and diminished people.

A Sindarin Elf that fostered Tuor in the caves of Androth, he fought in the Nirnaeth aside Huor and Húrin.

Answer: Arvernien

The island was raised in the sea after the drowning of Beleriand at the end of the First Age. Númenor is Tolkien's Atlantis, fated to drown back in the sea at the end of the Second Age, when the treachery of men turned against the Valar, and the Undying Lands of the elves. Númenórean men had many advantages of elves: longlevity and keen senses among others, a result of their ancestry to Elros half-elven.

Answer: Amandil

The only one of Ar-Pharazôn's advisors not to come under the sway of the evil Sauron, and thereby dismissed by him. Nominated chief of the Faithful of Númenor, he planted a sapling of Nimloth in Rómenna. He sought to concile with the Valar, and set sail to the West with three servants, and none was ever heard from him again.

A hobbit also known as Roper Gamgee, and the eldest brother of Hamfast Gamgee, the Gaffer. Andwise carried on his family's rope-making tradition, something that was learned through his grandfather Hob Gammidge. Sam mentions him while crossing the river in Lorien as "my uncle Andy"...

Answer: Aredhel

Aredhel Ar-Feiniel was the younger sister of elf-lords Fingon and Turgon. She gave a reluctant birth to Maeglin, and escaped with him to Turgon's city. They were followed by Eöl and as he shot a poisoned dart at Maeglin, Aredhel stood in the way and died of its poison.

Answer: Amlaith

After Eärendur's death, his three sons divided the kingdom of Arnor. Amlaith of Fornost was the eldest son and rightful heir, and became the first King of Arthedain, whilst his two younger brothers founded Cardolan and Rhudaur.

Alatar was one of the Istari, wizards sent to the middle earth to aid against Sauron in the Third Age. He was one of the original three chosen, along with Saruman and Gandalf. He took Pallando as a companion, and went far into the East, where none was ever heard from them again. Both Alatar and Pallando dressed in blue.

Out of fear of the lords of the West, Ar-Adûnakhôr added his Quenya name (Tar-Herunúmen) to the scrolls of lineage, but he was the first to openly defy the Valar, probably out of envy of their immortality.

Simbelmynë was a variety of Anemone, Aeglos was the snowthorn after which Gil-Galad's spear was named, and Asphodel were flowers in Ithilien found by Sam and Frodo. Arien was the Maiar given the task of guiding the sun around the sky.

Son of King Hyarmendacil I, the 16th king lived in inherited greatness, yet all he did was wallow in splendour and didn't increase the power of Gondor. His reign marks the height of the glory of Gondor, and the beginning of its decline.

Answer: Anárion

He escaped the Akallabêth (destruction of Númenor) with his father and brother Isildur. He was killed during the siege of Barad-dûr along with his father Elendil. Aragorn traces his lineage to Anárion often, although it is actually to Isildur that he is related, but he does this to lay claim for the merger of the kingdoms of Gondor and Arnor.

Answer: Dol Amroth

He was a descendant of Galador, and father of Imrahil (of the War of the Ring). Dol Amroth was the city of Belfalas, a province of Gondor.

Answer: Aragorn

Arathorn son of Arathorn, is also Isildur's heir, the 39th to be precise. He reclaims the throne of Gondor and Arnor at the end of LOTR, and marries Arwen Evenstar, daughter of Elrond. He used aliases such as Estel, the Elfstone, Strider, Wingfoot, Elessar, Thorongil, Telcontar and The Dunedan.
