Balefire burns the victim's thread back undoing what they have done; this can have a catastrophic impact on the whole pattern.

It was not ever really banned, the Aes Sedai of the Age of Legends just stopped using it when they learned of the dangers.

Perrin meets and frees him in a small town. A man is boasting that 20 Aiel jumped him and he and his men killed them all apart from Gaul who they captured. But Gaul says he and his one friend were attacked and his friend killed, and he captured. Aiel warriors live to fight.

Saying Shai`tan's name is said to bring his eye upon you, he is referred to by many other names: Father of Lies; Soulblighter; Heartsbane; Shepherd of the Night. Different names in different places. Everywhere he is known as The Dark One. Let's just face it, Perrin has no chance, Egwene probably wouldn't last long either.
