Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What device is used by the Seanchan to control women who can channel?

Answer: A'dam

The a'dam is made of a silvery metal and consists of a collar and bracelet, linked by a leash. Any woman who has the ability to channel the One Power and is captured by the Seanchan, is collared and referred to as a damane. A sul'dam is a Seanchan woman who wears the bracelet, giving her complete control over a damane. The Seanchan treat damane as not-so-pampered pets, and use them as weapons.

An angreal is an item that gives the bearer the ability to channel more of the Power than would be safe, or even possible, without it.
2. The citizens of Arad Doman use what in place of forks?

Answer: Sursa

The Domani use sursa, described as a thin pair of sticks, as eating utensils. Sounds like chopsticks to me! It has been said that sursa are the source of the Domani merchants' perseverance, as well as their temper. I can relate, having failed miserably in the use of chopsticks.

The Sa'sara is an extremely provocative Saldaen dance.
3. An Aes Sedai can be recognized by her ageless face and what physical item?

Answer: Great Serpent ring

Aes Sedai wear the Great Serpent ring. Novices who are raised to "Accepted" also receive the ring. However, they may only wear it on the third finger of the left hand. Full Sisters wear them on any finger. The ring, along with the agelessness that comes from using the One Power, make Aes Sedai easily recognizable.

Warders wear cloaks that seem to shimmer and blend in with their surroundings.
There is no such thing as a heartstone tiara.
We can only hope that no Aes Sedai is collared with an a'dam....unless she is of the Black Ajah!
4. What is the name of "The Sword That Is Not A Sword"?

Answer: Callandor

Callandor is a crystal sword, a powerful male sa'angreal, held in the Heart of the Stone. It can only be drawn initially by the Dragon Reborn, fulfilling one of the prophecies of the Dragons' re-birth, and signaling the approaching final battle between the Dragon and the Dark One at Tarmon Gai'don.
5. Aiel Warriors wear garments that make them all but invisible, give them more freedom of movement, and are called what?

Answer: Cadin'sor

Cadin'sor, coats and breeches in browns and grays, are worn by the Aiel warriors. These colors work well to blend the warriors with their environment among rocks and shadows. Their boots are soft leather, laced to the knee.

Whitecloaks are also known as the Children of the Light.
Age lace is another name for the Pattern.
Good Two Rivers wool is what every goodwife in Emonds Field makes her dresses out of. Don't forget to add stout, sensible shoes!
6. By what means are the dead heroes of legend summoned into battle?

Answer: The Horn of Valere

The Horn of Valere is used to summon dead heroes from the grave to help fight battles. The Horn is the object of The Great Hunt, and many legendary tales are told of those who seek it.

Machin Shin is an evil black wind that haunts the Ways.
A portal stone is a means of travel, defying time.
The Flame of Tar Valon is a symbol of Aes Sedai, the Amyrlin Seat, and the city of Tar Valon.
7. What is the beverage of choice of the Seanchan?

Answer: Kaf

Kaf is a black and bitter brew served steaming hot. May be sweetened with honey, and is very stimulating. I could use a cup of kaf right about now.

Pipes from around the world are filled with good Two Rivers tabac.
Sursa are Domani eating utensils similar to chopsticks.
8. What growing gift from the Aiel was given to the city of Cairhien in 556 NE?

Answer: Avendoraldera

Avendoraldera was a sapling of Avendesora, the legendary "Tree of Life". Given to the city of Cairhien by the Aiel, but with no history of any connection between the Aiel and Avendesora.

Aviendha is an Aiel Maiden.
The Atha'an Miere are sea folk.
9. What substance will absorb any force used to break it, and become even stronger?

Answer: Cuendillar

Cuendillar was made during the Age of Legends and is indestructible. Also called Heartstone.

Couladin is an Aiel Warrior, one of the Shaido.
Chaendaer is a mountain in the Aiel Waste.
Callandor is, of course, the "Sword That Is Not A Sword".
10. What do Aiel warriors call the cloth worn wrapped around their heads and necks, leaving their faces bare?

Answer: Shoufa

The shoufa is of the same environment blending colors as the cadin'sor. Within the folds of the shoufa is a black veil. As the Aiel prepare to dance the spear, they pull the veil out of the shoufa and cover their faces with it. It might be a good idea to avoid black veiled Aiel.

Age Lace is another name for the Pattern.
Kaf is a Seanchan beverage.
An a'dam is a controlling device used by the Seanchan on women who can channel.
