Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Billy Summers is a hitman who wants to retire. He is well-regarded for being able to take accurate shots from afar. Where did he perfect his shooting?

Answer: US Marine Corps

Billy Summers was in foster care but realized that his life was wasting away. He decided to enlist in the US Marines at the age of 17 and was able to get emancipated from his mother so that he could appoint Mr. Speck, the foster father, as his legal guardian. Mr. Speck then signed the papers to allow Billy to enlist even though he was still a minor.

In the Marines, Billy and his spotter were both identified as good shots. They were assigned to Camp Pendleton to learn how to be snipers. They learned the trade, stayed together as a team, and were deployed together.
2. As a marksman and a killer-for-hire, who was the first person that Billy Summers ever killed?

Answer: His mother's boyfriend

When Billy was only eleven years old, his mother had a boyfriend who was both abusive and an alcoholic. One day, Billy was at home with his nine-year-old sister, Cathy, and she was baking cookies. The boyfriend (later identified as Bob Raines) came home with a broken hand and he was already in a mood. He further became upset when the cookies were burnt, so he hit her across the head with his cast and she went flying and hit the wall. On the floor, the boyfriend kicked her, on and on... Billy tried to intervene but he was shoved out of the way.

Billy then ran away to the main bedroom and locked the door behind him. The boyfriend began pounding on the door yelling at Billy to let him in but Billy went to the unlocked footlocker where a loaded gun was kept. The boyfriend busted in the door, but Billy was waiting with the gun. As the boyfriend advanced, Billy shot him, center-of-mass, and killed him.
3. Billy Summers is hired for one last hit. What sum of money is promised to Billy by Nick Majarian in order to take out Joel Allen?

Answer: $2 million

Nick Majarian, a Las Vegas-based mobster and someone that Billy has worked for before, seeks Billy's services. They meet in a small town in the southern United States where Nick proposes the kill to Billy. The fee will be huge, by Billy's standards - $2 million, with $500 thousand up front and the remainder when the hit is carried out. Billy, looking at retiring, takes the job.

The size of the payout is one of the first things that makes Billy suspicious of Nick and his intentions. The second thing is that Billy has always taken care of his own getaway but this time Nick wants to 'help' Billy by offering him a way out after the hit.
4. Billy Summers does not let his true self out near Nick Majarian and his goons. What does he call the persona that he puts on near Nick?

Answer: Dumb self

While the real Billy Summers is a very learned man and a voracious reader of very good literature - some of his favourite authors include Émile Zola, William Faulkner, Charles Dickens and Thomas Hardy - he puts on a 'dumb self' persona when around Nick Majarian and his goons.

He reads "Archie" comics and peppers his speech with childish-sounding words and ideas. He feels that if Nick doesn't know how smart he actually is, he won't be seen as a threat or 'too smart for his own good'.
5. Roger Klerke is the person who actually ordered the hit that Billy Summers executed. Klerke is covering up that the original hitman, Joel Allen, knows too much information about the death of someone else. Who?

Answer: His son

Roger Klerke, the media mogul, ordered Joel Allen to kill his own son, Patrick. Patrick, the rebellious black-sheep-type, had found out that his father had a very distasteful fetish, pedophilia. Patrick was using some evidence that he had uncovered to blackmail his own father into giving him control over his father's empire. However, Roger had no intention of stepping down. He ordered a hitman, Joel Allen, to kill his own son.

However, in carrying out the hit, Allen found out about Klerke's dark secret and, facing the death penalty, was probably going to use this information to get a reduced sentence. Klerke did not want the news to come out and ordered the hit on Allen. He also staged it in such a way that his media services would be the ones to cover the story.
6. While Billy Summers is hiding from Nick's men, Alice shows up on his street in distress. Billy goes out to save her, so there would not be a police presence on the street, but also because of a sense of duty. What has happened to Alice?

Answer: She was raped

Alice had been seeing Tripp Donovan and they were going to go on their third date together, but Tripp invited her upstairs to his apartment for a pre-date drink. She met his roommates, Hank and Jack and had a drink, and her memory from that point on gets hazy. When Billy sees her, she is getting dumped right on his doorstep in the rain, raped and unable to move.

Billy realizes that the drink must have been spiked and that she was raped and starts to take care of her. He gets her some clothes and the morning-after pill and does his best to convince Alice not to go to the cops.
7. While being sheltered by Bucky, Billy gets some writing done in a cabin on Bucky's property. What supernatural location, right out of "The Shining", does this cabin look out over?

Answer: The Overlook Hotel

The cabin that is on Bucky's property has no power or heating, but it is secluded and a good place for Billy to sit down without distractions and write. However, he does get a chill when he looks out from the cabin to the site where the Overlook Hotel used to be and burned to the ground, right out of Stephen King's novel "The Shining". There's also a painting in the corner of the cabin with hedges that have been cut into the shapes of animals that distracts Billy because it is slightly devilish, so he turns it around.

When Billy leaves Bucky's house, he takes the picture and tosses into the gorge. The painting gets caught on the boughs of a pine tree, but at least the seemingly-haunted picture is no longer in the cabin.
8. Billy Summers gets suspicious that one of Nick's most trusted associates, Giorgio Piglielli, is missing. Billy thinks that it's likely that Georgie Pigs is dead. When Billy confronts Nick, what does he find out that happened to Georgie?

Answer: He's in Brazil getting thin

Giorgio Piglielli is the person who is selected by Nick to handle Billy and the entire operation of shooting Joel Allen. He is called Georgie Pigs, though not to his face, because of his huge size. When Billy realizes that he is going to get double-crossed by Nick, one of the most suspicious things is that Georgie disappears when Billy manages to get away. To Billy it seems obvious that Nick wanted to tie up all loose ends and had Georgie killed.

When Billy manages to confront Nick, he is told that Giorgio Piglielli is actually in Brazil having an operation on his stomach to reduce his cravings and to make him thinner. Giorgio and Billy connect over the phone and Giorgio apologizes to Billy. He is also able to give Billy some good information about the whereabouts of Roger Klerke and how to get to him.
9. Billy Summers and Alice devise a plan to confront Klerke and go to his house. Who ends up shooting Klerke first?

Answer: Alice

Billy and Alice find out about Klerke's fetish as a pedophile. Alice, being only 20-years-old herself, is willing to take the risk and to pose as an underaged girl, and Billy as her pimp (under the guise of being the cousin of Darren, Klerke's regular supplier of women). The plan is to get inside Klerke's complex and to have Billy kill him. However, the plan starts to go sideways when Billy is searched and his gun is taken away from him. Alice, however, has one in her small purse and she is never searched. When she gets close to Klerke, she shoots him in the stomach.

The wound is not fatal and it is eventually Billy that takes the gun and kills Klerke, however, Alice has to come to terms that she has shot a man.
10. Who, in the end, is the one who manages to shoot Billy Summers?

Answer: Marge Macintosh

Marge Macintosh has reason to hate Billy. She is Frank Macintosh's mother, and Billy put him in the hospital with a strong hit of his gun into the back of Frank's head. Frank will not recover (he has seizures and screams a lot), and Marge is relentlessly driven to get even with Billy. According to Billy, she "was just good at keeping her ears peeled". Since she worked for Nick, she must have known where Billy would be found.

Marge had hidden in the bushes and ambushed Billy as he was retrieving his gun and was blinded by the glare of his own headlights. She got off a shot right before Billy shot her dead. Unfortunately, Marge's shot hit Billy in the abdomen, a seemingly-innocuous wound that quickly became serious.
