When we first meet Pellaz he is a dirty 'farmboy' harvesting the 'cable' crop on his father's smallholding. Cal arrives like some kind of mythical angel and literally "takes him away from all this".

Cal takes Pell to Saltrock where he is incepted by Thiede himself. He also meets Flick and Seel for the first time here, and begins to truly understand just what Wraeththu is all about.

"The Aghama" is considered a God by Wraeththu, he is the First, and legends about him abound. It comes as a huge shock to many Hara to realise that Thiede is actually The Aghama himself.

Answer: Uigenna

The Uigenna are the most violent, destructive, hated and feared tribe of all. Cal's inception into their tribe comes back to 'haunt him' many times over the following years as the Gelaming rise to power.

Answer: Swift

Terzian is the leader of the Varrs, who hold a large territory. Cobweb is his consort and the hostling of Swift his eldest harling. Swift is the first harling Cal and Pell have ever seen.
They gain the trust of Terzian and a place in his household when they rescue Cobweb, heal his broken leg, and take him home.
Tyson is the harling Cal hosts for Terzian later on in the story.

Answer: Orien

Orien is the 'Hienama', the closest thing to a High Priest the community of Saltrock have. Cal blames him for Pellaz's death and kills him in his 'church' in an extremely gory way.

Pell gets Caeru with pearl (pregnant) "accidentally" and then leaves without telling him what is about to happen to him!
Years later when Pell has been installed as Tigron, Rue turns up with his harling in tow and Thiede forces Pell to accept Rue as his Tigrina.

Kate realises what is happening to Rue before he does, as Pell leaves her a note asking her to look out for Rue and help him through. She stands by Rue and eventually is incepted into the Kamagrian which extends her life to a harish term, and she lives in Immanion.

The Gelaming are the self proclaimed leaders of the world once it is under Wraeththu control. They set out to subdue the more excessively violent tribes and also to help the few remaining pockets of humanity as they struggle to survive.
They are Thiede's 'Chosen People' and build Immanion as an administrative centre and also as a monument to their ideals.

Answer: Ulaume

Ulaume is a dangerous and powerful har. His hair has a life of its own and he uses it to strangle people. He is an adept of the dark mysteries and even carries out a human sacrifice for his leader at one point! Cal and Pell are lucky to escape his clutches unharmed.

Answer: Feybraiha

Feybraiha is the equivalent of the human puberty, but all taking place in about a week, when a harling becomes an adult. It is an occasion for celebration and parties.

Answer: Tel-an-kaa

Tel-an-Kaa is the female equivalent of a Har; she refers to herself as a 'Parage' and she and others like her are the 'Kamagrian'. For a long time it was not known that females could be incepted and survive.
Tel-an-Kaa leads a band of Kamagrian and Hara around the country in the guise of gypsies or tinkers, and helps rescue human women and, later on, born kamagrian.

Answer: Smiles

By the time he reaches Fallsend, Cal has hit rock bottom - he is in despair and has nowhere left to go. He knocks on the door of Piristil because it has a string of fairy lights, and then we hear that he does "the hardest thing I ever did, I smiled." The door har takes pity and lets him in.

Answer: Forest of Gebaddon

In the Forest of Gebaddon, the Varrs must face their inner demons and repent of their evil deeds if they are to have any hope of escape.

Cal and Zack were chesna (soulmates) many years before, but Cal left him behind when they were escaping from a gang who were trying to kill them. He thought Zack was killed and has mourned him and felt guilty ever since.
