Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Delak Krennel was the leader of the Ciutric Hegemony, and was to be made an example of by the New Republic's armed forces. He was approached by Ysanne Isard, long thought to be dead, who offered to help him. Unbeknownst to Krennel, the woman who approached him was actually a clone.

Answer: True

Back when Isard was on Imperial Center (Coruscant), she had so many things to take care of, but she did not trust anyone enough to handle them correctly. So she entrusted extra tasks to the one person she did trust: herself. She made a clone of herself, and tasked it with taking care of the Lusankya prisoners.

The clone did not even realize that she was a clone, though, and after the Bacta War, pursued her own goals without her creator's oversight.
2. What rank was Wedge finally coerced into accepting in "Isard's Revenge"?

Answer: General

Wedge started "Isard's Revenge" as a Commander. He was uninterested in accepting the rank of General because he wanted to continue flying, and not get stuck behind a desk. He had a bet with Ackbar over the creation of Wraith Squadron. If the Wraith Squadron project failed, he would have been forced to accept his new rank. Fortunate for Wedge, he won.

However, a few years later, Ackbar was haranguing Wedge again to accept a new rank. Ackbar explained that the exceptional pilots of Rogue Squadron were following Wedge's lead, and also turning down promotions. To set an example for his squadron, Wedge reluctantly agreed to accept the rank of General, but still maintained leadership of Rogue Squadron for the immediate future.
3. The Rogues started looking for the Lusankya prisoners that Corran had promised to free. While the Rogues were busy flying and shooting, Iella Wessiri was conduction her own research. Who helped Iella during her investigation?

Answer: Mirax Terrik

Iella was a former Corellian Security Officer, and used to performing investigations. After leaving Corellia, she joined New Republic Intelligence. During her time in CorSec, Corran was her partner. Corran ended up marrying Mirax Terrik, the daughter of the infamous smuggler, Booster Terrik. Mirax had a lot of knowledge about smuggling and more legitimate transportation practices. Mirax and Iella became quick friends through Corran and Wedge, and worked tirelessly to keep Rogue Squadron informed and alive.

Nrin Vakil and Nawara Ven were both with Rogue Squadron during their campaign against Krennel. Emtrey, the Rogues' previous quartermaster, was not mentioned in "Isard's Revenge".
4. Who was the author of "Isard's Revenge"?

Answer: Michael A. Stackpole

Michael A. Stackpole wrote the first four "X-wing" novels. The next three were written by Aaron Allston. The eighth, "Isard's Revenge", was written by Stackpole as a standalone novel.

Stackpole created the characters Corran Horn, Mirax Terrik, Iella Wessiri, and Ysanne Isard, to name a few. The first four novels depicted the reconstruction of Rogues Squadron, the retaking of Coruscant by the New Republic, and the Bacta War that followed. Stackpole also wrote the "X-wing: Rogue Squadron" comic series, and many characters appeared in both the comics and his novels.

Nrin Vakil was introduced in the comics (which took place before the novels), where his character and back-story were fleshed out. References to events in the comics also cropped up in "Isard's Revenge", such as the fate of former Mon Calimari Rogue, Ibtisam.

Timothy Zahn, among other "Star Wars" novels, wrote the famous "Thrawn Trilogy", which were the first "Star Wars" novels published to take place after "Return of the Jedi". Kevin J. Anderson wrote the "Jedi Academy" trilogy, among other "Star Wars" novels, and created a number of Jedi for Luke's new order.
5. Prince Admiral Krennel set a trap to destroy Rogue Squadron. The Rogues were ambushed by six squadrons of enemy TIEs. Despite Rogue Squadron's skills, they were not able to escape unscathed. They lost four fighters during that engagement. Was Asyr Sei'lar killed during the ambush?

Answer: No

The Rogues lost four fighters during the ambush. Lyyr Zatoq and Khe-Jeen Slee, two of the newest members, were killed in the ambush. Wes Janson and Asyr Sei'lar were both shot down, but managed to eject. The rest of the Rogues were almost destroyed by the ambush, but they were saved by an unlikely ally. They jumped their barely working ships out of the system, unable to determine who had survived or not. Wedge was hit particularly hard by the apparent loss of Janson, and Gavin was devastated by the loss of his girlfriend, Asyr, with whom he had been planning a family.

The Errant Venture arrived after the Rogues and rescuers had departed, and picked up Wes and Asyr. After the campaign was over, Wes rejoined the Rogues, but Asyr opted to remain MIA, and decided to return to Bothawui to change Bothan culture to be more open and accepting.
6. When in the "Star Wars" chronology did "Isard's Revenge" take place?

Answer: 9 ABY, after the "Thrawn Trilogy".

The "Thrawn Trilogy" was one of the earliest and most liked works in the Star Wars Expanded Universe (The Expanded Universe being anything outside of the movies). Star Wars chronology uses the Battle of Yavin as a reference point, which took place in "A New Hope".

The "Thrawn Trilogy" took place five years after "Return of the Jedi", in 9 ABY. It ended with the battle at Bilbringi, which Rogue Squadron participated in. "Isard's Revenge" opened with the battle at Bilbringi from Corran's perspective.

The ninth "X-wing" novel took place in 13 ABY, and the tenth took place in 44 ABY.

Timothy Zahn's "Thrawn Trilogy" was published in 1991, and set the stage for the modern Star Wars Expanded Universe. Since then, many authors have contributed novels, extending the Star Wars timeline ever farther away from the movies.
7. What was the Errant Venture?

Answer: A Star Destroyer

During the Bacta War, Booster Terrik managed to get his hands on an Imperial Star Destroyer, and managed to keep it, despite the New Republic wanting to take possession. He painted his Star Destroyer a bright red, and turned it into a mobile hotel and casino. Booster used his ship to travel where he wanted, and provided a friendly port for old contacts.

Booster traveled to the Rogue's ambush point to help them, but arrived too late. They did manage to pick up Wes Janson and Asyr Sei'lar, who had ejected.
8. Which ships did Rogue Squadron learn to fly in "Isard's Revenge"?

Answer: TIE Defenders

In the early 1990's, a series of computer games were released, known as the "X-wing" series. They included "Star Wars: X-wing", "Star Wars: TIE Fighter", and "Star Wars: X-wing vs. TIE Fighter". A fourth game, "X-wing Alliance", was also produced. These spaceflight simulation games were the inspiration for the "X-wing" novel series. Much of the data in the novels concerning relative speeds, shield strengths, and weapon load outs were taken from these games.

The Empire focused on cheap, mass-produced hardware, and its fighters were notorious for having no shields. The second game in the series, "Star Wars: TIE Fighter" (Often considered one of the best games of all time by many rankings), has the player fight for the Empire. For later missions, to keep things interesting, the designers added in a few new spacecraft to give the player a bit more of an edge. These included the Assault Gunboat, the TIE Advance, the TIE Defender, and the Missile Boat, all of which packed more firepower, had shields, and moved faster than the mass-produced starfighters.

The TIE Defender was particularly nasty. It had strong shields, was faster than a TIE Interceptor, sported four laser cannons, two ion cannons, and missiles, and was able to carry a beam weapon. They were extremely expensive, and often deployed against vastly overwhelming numbers, much the same way most Rebel pilots fought.

The Rogues were rescued by pilots flying TIE Defenders. The Rogues were then taken back to a secret base being run by the original Isard. They were given training in TIE Defenders for a mission to destroy Krennel and Isard's clone. During their mission to Cuitric, they flew as Requiem Squadron and under false names.

Blade 32's appeared in the next "X-wing" novel, "Starfighters of Adumar".
9. Who killed the clone of Isard in "Isard's Revenge"?

Answer: Wedge Antilles

In "The Bacta War", the Rogues thought Isard tried to escape in a shuttle. Corran Horn was able to target the shuttle and give the targeting information to Tycho, who launched a proton torpedo. The shuttle was destroyed, and the Rogues had thought that Isard had been killed. She actually had the shuttle flown by remote, and had transmissions rebroadcast from the shuttle, to make it seem as if she were on it. Isard and her clone secretly survived the Bacta War, and managed to slip away, but not together.

The clone of Isard was not even aware that she was a clone, and had no memory of the shuttle event in "The Bacta War". She tried to pull the same trick again, on Cuitric. Wedge shot down her remote-controlled shuttle, but during the fight, also scanned for additional frequencies, and triangulated her actual position. He then sent four missiles into her signal's location, and her frequency finally returned only static.
10. Who killed the original Isard in "Isard's Revenge"?

Answer: Iella Wessiri

Isard convinced the Rogues to work with her against her clone, wanting only to be left alone in return. Rogue Squadron trained in TIE Defenders for a coordinated attack with the real Isard's pilots. The Rogues were to go in first, and then once the battle started, were supposed to be reinforced by Isard's group. Isard betrayed Rogue Squadron, and did not send help, but the Rogues had anticipated that, and had set up their own reinforcements.

While the New Republic was occupied by their attack on Krennel's seat of power, Isard set about reclaiming her repaired Super Star Destroyer, the Lusankya. She managed to board her old ship, but had not anticipated Booster, Mirax, Asyr, and Iella to be there. Iella, whose husband Diric had been turned into an unwilling agent by Isard's program, was waiting for Isard in her private suite. Iella tried to take Isard alive, but Isard panicked at the idea of enduring her own prison, and lashed out. Iella was forced to kill the former Imperial Director.
