Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. (1998) When Will Smith accidentally receives a clip of a politically motivated murder, he finds himself running for his life while the bad guys try to retrieve the proof and eliminate him as a threat. Gene Hackman plays a former government agent, with expertise in surveillance, who helps him out of his jam.

Answer: Enemy of the State

Tony Scott directed this better than average film that also starred Jon Voight, Lisa Bonet and Regina King. I wonder if Smith ever got his blender back.
2. (1997) Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are there to keep track of all the alien life-forms living here on Earth. They have their work cut out for them though, when the Bug comes looking for Orion's Belt.

Answer: Men In Black

Barry Sonnenfeld directed this very funny movie that also starred Linda Fiorentino, Vincent D'Onofrio, Rip Torn and Tony Shalhoub.
3. (1993) Tommy Lee Jones plays U.S. Federal Marshal in pursuit of escaped convict, Dr. Richard Kimble, played by Harrison Ford. Kimble, who has been wrongfully convicted of murdering his wife, is determined to find the one armed man who really killed her.

Answer: The Fugitive

Andrew Davis directed this film that was based on an old television show. Although I enjoyed the movie, particularly Jones' performance, I was disappointed at how lacking in substance Ford's role was. He spent far too much time running, and not enough time being allowed to act. Sela Ward, Julianne Moore and Joe Pantoliano also starred.
4. (1986) Harrison Ford showed incredible range in his role of Allie Fox, a brilliant but obsessive inventor. Fox decides to sell off everything he owns, and drag his family into the rainforests of Central America, where he sets up an ice making factory. River Phoenix plays his son Charlie who changes, throughout the course of the film, from idolizing his brilliant father, to hating him.

Answer: The Mosquito Coast

Peter Weir directed this amazing movie, which is said to be Ford's personal favourite of all the films that he's made. If you have not seen this, I couldn't recommend it more. Ford's portrayal of a man gradually losing his grip on reality was worthy of a lot more attention than it gained.
5. (1989) River Phoenix plays a young version of one of our favourite action heroes, and Sean Connery plays his father, in this quest to find the Holy Grail before it can fall into the hands of the Nazis.

Answer: Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

Steven Spielberg directed this third in the "Indiana Jones" trilogy, that also starred Denholm Elliott, Alison Doody and John Rhys-Davies. The chemistry between Ford and Connery as father and son is delightful, even though there's only 12 years between the actors.
6. (1974) Sean Connery played Colonel Arbuthnot, an English gentleman travelling in a luxurious train across Europe in 1935. When one of the other passengers is murdered, Detective Hercule Poirot soon learns that Arbuthnot had a motive for the murder. Unfortunately so did all of the other passengers in the car of the train, as well as one of the employees. In fact there were enough suspects to have one for every stab wound the victim received. Michael York played Count Andrenye.

Answer: Murder on the Orient Express

Sidney Lumet directed this delightful film that also starred Albert Finney, Lauren Bacall, Martin Balsam, Ingrid Bergman, Jacqueline Bisset and Anthony Perkins, to name a few.
7. (1973) There have been many versions of this film, but the one I'm after, starred Michael York as the young D'Artagnan, anxious to distinguish himself in the service of the Queen of France. However he soon finds that that may involve deceiving the King, and running afoul of the Cardinal. Oliver Reed played Athos.

Answer: The Three Musketeers

Richard Lester directed this very funny film which also starred Raquel Welch, Richard Chamberlain, Frank Finlay, Charlton Heston and Faye Dunaway.
8. (2000) Oliver Reed plays Proximo, the man who trains Maximus, played by Russell Crowe, in the skills needed to keep him alive in the bloodthirsty competitions so popular in the Roman Empire. And Maximus very much wants to stay alive, so he can exact revenge on the Emperor who killed his own father, betrayed Maximus and had his family killed.

Answer: Gladiator

Ridley Scott directed this over-rated (in my opinion) film that won five Academy Awards. Richard Harris, Derek Jacobi and Joaquin Phoenix also starred.
9. (2001) Russell Crowe plays John Nash, a brilliant, Nobel Prize - winning, mathematician who struggles daily with schizophrenia. Ed Harris plays William Parcher, the special agent, who really doesn't exist, who hires Nash to be a cryptographer.

Answer: A Beautiful Mind

Ron Howard directed this amazing movie that won 4 out of the 8 Academy Awards that it was nominated for. Jennifer Connelly, Christopher Plummer and Paul Bettany also starred. Now this is the movie that Russell Crowe should have won his Oscar for.
10. (1993) Ed Harris plays Wayne Tarrance, an F.B.I. agent who is trying to turn Mitch McDeere, played by Tom Cruise, into an informant. You see McDeere is a recent law school graduate, who has just taken a position with a wealthy, but low-profile law firm. What McDeere doesn't realize is that the law firm is very dirty, and no lawyer ever leaves it alive. Based on a novel by John Grisham.

Answer: The Firm

Sydney Pollack directed this movie which also starred Jene Tripplehorn, Gene Hackman, Hal Holbrook, Holly Hunter and Gary Busey.
