Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which member of the EGOT family was the only Academy Award winner for the 1970 movie "Airport"? (Hint: An EGOT member has won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony Award).

Answer: Helen Hayes

The 1970 film with "Airport" received 10 nominations, but only received one Oscar, that being Helen Hayes who won her second Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the film as Mrs. Ada Quonsett, the stowaway. Helen Hayes was the first female EGOT member and the timeline for her wins is as follows:

1 In 1932, when she won the Oscar for "The Sin of Madelon Claudet".
2 In 1947 she won a Tony for "Happy Birthday". (She won another in 1958 for "Time Remembered").
3 In 1953 she won a Best Actress Emmy for an episode of "Schlitz Playhouse of Stars".
4 In 1976 she won a Grammy for Best Spoken Word Recording for "Great American Documents".
2. The Beatles won the Academy Award for Original Song Score for which film?

Answer: Let It Be

The Beatles won the Academy Award for the 1970 documentary film "Let It Be". This documentary film was initially made for television but due to changes in broadcasting schedules it was decided to release the documentary as a feature film. Though the alterations caused the film to be of a poor quality, the songs and the behind the scenes footage were the real attraction for the audiences, resulting in an Academy Award win.
3. The big winner was the 1970 film "Patton", which won seven Academy Awards. Which was *NOT* one of the wins for "Patton"? (Hint: He won an Academy Award for "The Omen").

Answer: Best Original Score: Jerry Goldsmith

"Patton" had U.S. General George S. Patton played by George C. Scott, who won the Best Actor award for his portrayal. George C. Scott became the first actor to reject an Oscar in protest of the award ceremony becoming too commercialized. Best Film Editing, Best Production Design and Best Sound Mixing were the other three wins for "Patton". Jerry Goldsmith was nominated for his score for the movie but unfortunately he didn't win.

He ultimately won his only Academy Award six years later for his score in the "The Omen".

Tora!") it failed to receive any nominations.

"Patton" received ten nominations winning seven Awards.
