Jodie Foster played Donna, a local girl who meets and has a one-night stand with carnival clown Frankie (Gary Busey). She decides to escape her small-town life and leaves with Frankie, and the carnival. Trouble starts when Donna and Frankie's partner, Patch (Robbie Robertson), are attracted to each other.
