Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What performer from "Last of the Summer Wine" played a man who got a stake through the heart in "Taste the Blood of Dracula"?

Answer: Peter Sallis

In "Taste the Blood of Dracula" Samuel Paxton (Peter Sallis) and his friend, Secker, found Lucy Paxton's body after she had become a vampire. Secker tried to stake her, but Paxton shot Secker in the arm. Paxton couldn't believe his sweet daughter was a vampire. However, after Secker ran away, Lucy woke up, and drove a stake into her father's chest, killing Samuel Paxton.

Peter Sallis was the only performer to appear in every episode and special as Norman Clegg, or Clegg's father, in "Last of the Summer Wine". He also did the voice of Wallace in the "Wallace and Gromit" films.
2. Who played Dracula in "Love At First Bite"?

Answer: George Hamilton

Dracula (George Hamilton) was evicted from his castle in Romania. His coffin was sent to a funeral in Harlem. Dracula woke up and opened the coffin lid, surprising the black congregation. He later found Cindy Sondheim (Susan Saint James) who looked like his past girlfriend, Mina Harker. He turned her into a vampire, and they became bats and flew away to live happily ever after together.

George Hamilton played Hank Williams in "Your Cheatin' Heart" (1964), a motorcycle daredevil in "Evel Knievel" (1971), and Zorro in "Zorro the Gay Blade" (1981).
3. Who played Prince Mamuwalde in "Blacula" (1972)?

Answer: William Marshall

Prince Mamuwalde (William Marshall) visited Dracula (Charles Macaulay) to discuss slowing down the slave trade. However, Dracula made money from slaves, so he took Mamuwalde's wife to be his vampire bride and turned the prince into a vampire, which Dracula called "Blacula". In 1972 Blacula woke up in a coffin in Los Angeles and found a woman who looked like his long dead wife (Vonetta McGee). Of course, while romancing her he also drank blood and turned people into the undead while the police investigated.

William Marshall played the King of Cartoons on "Pee Wee's Playhouse" and Dr. Richard Daystrom, who invented the computer who took over the Enterprise in "Star Trek: The Original Series". He also appeared in many other TV shows, plays, and movies.
4. Which Dracula movie had a couple named Charles and Diana?

Answer: Dracula: Prince of Darkness

In "Dracula: Prince of Darkness" the villagers were paranoid about vampires. They tried to stake a dead woman just in case she was a vampire, but Father Sandor prevented them from doing it. Meanwhile, Klove invited two couples to spend the night in Dracula's castle. Klove killed Alan and poured his blood on Dracula's ashes. Dracula materialized and bit Helen, turning her into a vampire. Charles and Diana, the remaining couple, eventually went to the monastery, but Klove, Dracula, and Helen went there to try to turn Charles and Diana Kent into vampires.
5. In which movie did Dracula lose his arms and legs, but he was still alive?

Answer: Andy Warhol's Dracula

In "Andy Warhol's Dracula" (aka "Blood for Dracula"), Mario (Joe Dallesandro) attacked Dracula (Udo Kier), removing his arms and legs with an ax, but Dracula was still alive, wiggling on the ground and hissing. (This was years before the same gag was used in "Monty Python and the Holy Grail".) Dracula had spent the movie romancing the Di Fiore sisters in search of virgin blood.

By the time he drank virgin blood, the people found out he was a vampire. The three women he bit were possessed by him, but Mario, the handy man, was not possessed, and attacked Dracula.
6. Who played Dracula in "Count Dracula's Great Love" (1974)?

Answer: Paul Naschy

In "Count Dracula's Great Love" Dracula (Paul Naschy), calling himself Doctor Wendell Marlow, invited stranded women to spend the night at a nearby sanitarium, where he bit each one, turning them into vampires, except the virginal Karen, who reminded Dracula of his "great love".

Paul Naschy was born in Madrid, Spain. He played Hombre Lobo, a werewolf, in 12 movies. He also appeared in many other TV shows and movies.
7. What performer from "Superman Returns" played as Dracula in "Dracula" (1979)?

Answer: Frank Langella

Many Dracula movies, TV shows, and plays were made in 1979, but the one simply called "Dracula" starred Frank Langella in the title role. Advertised as a more romantic "Dracula" for adults, it primarily involved Dracula romancing Lucy Seward (Kate Nelligan). Eventually, Professor Abraham Van Helsing (Laurence Olivier) found Dracula on a ship bound for Romania and fought him.

Frank Langella appeared in various movies, including "The Twelve Chairs", "Lolita", "Junior", "Frost/Nixon", "Eddie", and "The Box".
8. Who played Dracula in "Brides of Dracula"?

Answer: Nobody

Peter Cushing played Van Helsing in "Brides of Dracula". However, there was no Dracula. Hammer Films did something similar to what Universal did with their Dracula movies: The second movie continued the story with Van Helsing fighting other vampires, but Dracula didn't return until the third movie.

A woman was invited to spend the night at an old woman's massive estate. She looked out the window and saw a man in chains in another part of the building. She went to his room and he told her that his mother, the old woman, was jealous of him and insane and had kept him there to keep him from inheriting the estate. The young woman found the key to the chains and gave them to the young man, who escaped. However, he was a vampire and turned many women into vampires, including his mother.
9. Who played Van Helsing's granddaughter in "Dracula A.D. 1972"?

Answer: Stephanie Beacham

Stephanie Beacham acted in movies ("Schizo") and television ("Colbys", "Sister Kate"). She also played as Jessica Van Helsing in "Dracula A.D. 1972", which began with Van Helsing (Peter Cushing) killing Dracula (Christopher Lee) in the 1800s. The movie jumped to 1972 when a man who called himself Alucard wanted to become a vampire.

He performed a satanic ritual with his friends, including Jessica Van Helsing, Dr. Van Helsing's granddaughter. This brought Dracula back to life.
10. Who played Van Helsing's granddaughter in "The Satanic Rites of Dracula"?

Answer: Joanna Lumley

Joanna Lumley played as Jessica Van Helsing in "The Satanic Rites of Dracula" (aka "Count Dracula and His Vampire Bride"). People were doing tricks with vampires to convince high ranking British officials of their power. Eventually, Van Helsing was consulted and discovered that a wealthy business man behind the plan of stealing and letting loose bubonic plague was really Dracula, who seemingly wanted to commit suicide by destroying mankind. Dracula captured Van Helsing's granddaughter (this time played by Joanna Lumley of "Absolutely Fabulous", "Curse of the Pink Panther", and "Ella Enchanted") to make her his bride as revenge against Van Helsing's interference.
