The title character was an optimistic redneck boy with a mullet who was left behind at the Grand Canyon by his parents. Joe Dirt went on a fictional Los Angeles radio station to tell his life story of looking for his parents.

Sheriff Buford T. Justice AKA Smokey was the redneck sheriff in the "Smokey and the Bandit" film series. He was played by Jackie Gleason in the movies.

In the 1977 film "Smokey and the Bandit", Sheriff Justice chased two bootleggers nicknamed Bandit and Snowman all over the southeastern United States. Sheriff Justice's chase became personal after the bootleggers picked up a third person, nicknamed Frog. This young lady was supposed to be the bride of Sheriff Justice's son. The chase for the bootleggers during the rest of the movie saw many antics which caused embarrassment for Sheriff Justice.

Herbert I. "Hi" McDunnough was the main character in the 1987 film "Raising Arizona". After he was released from prison, this redneck convenience store robber married a police officer named Ed. Since Ed can't have babies, Hi decided to kidnap an infant son of a furniture magnate.

Karl Childers was the main character in the 1996 film "Sling Blade". Karl Childers was played by Billy Bob Thornton.

The mentally challenged redneck Childers was put in the state mental hospital after being institutionalized for murder of two people with a sling blade or Kaiser blade. Childers went to work repairing car engines after his release. Childers moved in with a family and eventually murdered the abusive house member with a sling blade.

Aileen Wuornos was played Charlize Theron in the 2003 film "Monster". This movie was based on a serial killer who was executed in Florida for killing six men between 1989 and 1990. Charlize Theron won the Academy Award for Best Actress for this role.
