Elwyn Brooks White was born in 1899 in Mount Vernon, NY. He also wrote "Stuart Little" and "The Trumpet of the Swan". In 1985 he died from Alzheimer's Disease.
2. What was unique about Wilbur when he was born?

Answer: He was a runt.

The girl's father was going to kill Wilbur because he was a runt. However, the girl got upset by this so her father allowed her to raise Wilbur. When Wilbur was two weeks old the father said he had to start living outside like other pigs.
3. What was the name of the girl who raised Wilbur?

Answer: Fern

Fern raised Wilbur until he was old enough to be sold to another farmer. The farmer was her uncle so she still got to see Wilbur after he was sold. Fern was about eight or nine years old and loved animals.
4. What was the first thing Wilbur learned at the farm?

Answer: He could talk.

The geese and sheep encouraged him to try to talk. He struggled for a few seconds then spoke. After that he sang the song, "I Can Talk".
5. What was unusual about the way the geese talked?

Answer: They repeated the last syllable three times.

The geese said "Something umthing umthing" instead of just saying "something". They did this with everything they say. At one point Charlotte asked how to spell the word "terrific". The one goose told her, 'T double E, double R, double R double I, double F, double I, double C C C."
6. What word did Charlotte teach Wilbur?

Answer: Salutations

When she first met Wilbur she sang "Chin Up" to him. During this time she said "Salutations". He asked what that means and she told him that it was a greeting, a way to say hello.
7. What was unique about the gosling that was a runt?

Answer: He oinked.

The runt gosling quickly became friends with Wilbur. He followed him around everywhere and did everything he did, such as eating from Wilbur's trough. At one point he got excited and started to oink like a pig as well.
8. What was the first thing that Charlotte wrote in her web?

Answer: some pig

Charlotte decided that humans were gullible and would believe anything they saw in print. The trick worked and the Zuckermans believed that Wilbur was a special pig.
9. How did Templeton revive Wilbur when he fainted?

Answer: bit his tail

Wilbur was eating his food when the farmhand said to Mr. Zuckerman that he'd get some good meat from Wilbur when he killed him. Wilbur, scared of dying, fainted. Charlotte asked Templeton to revive him and he did so by biting his tail.
10. What were the names of the three spiders that were too small to fly away after Charlotte's eggs all hatched?

Answer: Joy, Arania, and Nellie

Of the 514, only three of the spiders stayed with Wilbur after they were born. Joy got her name because she was trembling with joy. Arania picked her name because Charlotte's middle initial was A. Wilbur gave Nellie her name when she asked for a nice simple name.
