1. Ford v Ferrari (2019)

"Ford v Ferrari" was a 2019 drama about the real-life story of how Ford tried to overtake Ferrari in the motor racing world. Matt Damon starred as Carroll Shelby, the former racecar driver who is called in to find a way to beat the Ferrari team at the 24 Hours of Le Mans race. Opposite Damon is Christian Bale, who plays Ken Miles, the driver. Together, the two team up to find a way to take the Fords past the redline and to win the race.
2. Good Will Hunting (1997)

In the 1997 drama "Good Will Hunting", it really was Robin Williams who stole the show. Williams plays Sean, a psychologist battling with a troubled past who has to help a young adult, Will (played by Matt Damon), who has an aptitude for math. However, Will has a hard time applying himself and also gets into trouble with his friends, including Ben Affleck's character Chuckie.
When Will falls in love with Skylar, played by Minnie Driver, he realises that he can find purpose in life. Though he almost manages to mess up the relationship, in the end he sets things right and goes after Skylar. Affleck and Damon, aside from acting in the movie, also wrote the screenplay for the successful film winning them an Oscar. Williams won an Oscar for his performance for Best Supporting Actor. For the three of them, it was their first Academy Award win.
3. Argo (2012)

"Argo" is a drama based off of the events of the Iran hostage crisis and the rescue of six Americans from Tehran. Ben Affleck directed this movie and also played the role of Tony Mendez, a CIA agent who spearheads the rescue. The six Americans trapped are in the home of a Canadian diplomat. However, with the Iranian Revolution in full swing, getting out is not going to be easy.
Mendez comes up with a plan to exfiltrate the Americans by pretending to be filming a movie and scouting for locations. The Argo movie company is set up as a cover and a crew is sent to Iran. When they get there, they meet the hostages and they form a plan to escape, however, the hostages are nervous. The situation is growing more and more volatile in Iran and it is increasingly dangerous to be a Westerner in Tehran. In the end, the CIA team pulls off the escape and it all ends well for everyone involved.
"Argo" was given the Academy Award for Best Picture, earning Affleck his second trophy.
4. The Bourne Identity (2002)

"The Bourne Identity" is a 2002 action movie based on Robert Ludlum's novel of the same name. It follows the story of Jason Bourne, played by Matt Damon, an American super-spy. However, when the story opens, he is suffering from amnesia having just been fished out of the Mediterranean Sea. Bourne has to re-piece together his life and to evade groups of hitmen who are out to kill him. He discovers that his former bosses at an organization called Treadstone are a lot more corrupt than he originally thought.
This movie was a hit and spawned several sequels, some of them not based on the books by Ludlum. Matt Damon was in the first trilogy, and also the fifth movie of the franchise entitled simply "Jason Bourne" (2016).
5. Pearl Harbor (2001)

Based loosely on the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the 2001 movie "Pearl Harbor" was a romantic drama. It starred Kate Beckinsale as Evelyn Johnson, a nurse in the US Navy who becomes the love interest of two friends, Rafe McCawley (played by Ben Affleck) and Danny Walker (played by Josh Hartnett). Rafe and Danny have been friends since childhood and became pilots in the US Navy together. Rafe falls in love with Evelyn, but when he is presumed dead when his plane is shot down over the English Channel.
Evelyn and Danny eventually strike up a relationship, however, Rafe suddenly shows up and the tension is evident. The two friends fight, but, the next day is the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941. The two put aside their differences and volunteer for a secret mission that goes awry. When the two pilots are held at gunpoint by Japanese soldiers, Danny sacrifices his life for Rafe.
6. Ocean's Eleven (2001)

"Ocean's Eleven" was a 2001 crime drama which is a remake of the 1960 film featuring the Rat Pack. The plot follows Danny Ocean (played by George Clooney) and his attempt to knock off the Bellagio vault in Las Vegas as a way to get back at Terry Benedict, the owner of some casinos in Las Vegas and the man who stole Danny Ocean's ex-wife, Tess (played by Julia Roberts). Danny Ocean recruits some professionals to assist him and the team of 11 men put in place a plan which will make them rich and humiliate Benedict.
Matt Damon plays Linus Caldwell, a pickpocket, whose role in the film is a voice of reason. He is also very talented at what he does and he is able to steal a code from Benedict and to return it to his pocket as well.
7. Gone Girl (2014)

"Gone Girl" was a thriller by David Fincher that was released in 2014. The plot follows the story of Nick, played by Ben Affleck, who is the number-one suspect in the disappearance of his wife, Amy. When even Nick's own family begin to suspect Nick, and evidence begins to accumulate that it's not just a kidnapping but a murder, things look dire for Nick. However, the truth is that Amy is trying to frame Nick for her murder out of revenge for him cheating on her and for the deterioration of their marriage.
When the pieces start to fall into place and Amy realizes that Nick will not be charged for her murder, she reveals herself, but not before she murders an ex-boyfriend, Desi (played by Neil Patrick Harris), and blames him for everything that happened. When she returns, there are holes in her story but the FBI closes the case. She admits her guilt to Nick and tells him that she stole his sperm and impregnated herself with it. However, when Nick tries to tell the authorities, there is no evidence to back up the accusation. The two reunite and pretend to go back to living a normal life.
8. Dogma (1999)

Kevin Smith released "Dogma" in 1999 as the fourth film in the "View Askewniverse" series. It has Ben Affleck and Matt Damon in the lead roles as Bartleby and Loki, respectively, two fallen angels who are going to try and exploit a loophole in the Catholic dogma in order to return to Heaven. However, if they succeed, then they will also inadvertently unravel all of existence.
This movie quickly became Kevin Smith's most popular film and was an amusing look at the Catholic Church. This did not go over well certain groups who thought the movie blasphemous and criticized it harshly. Nevertheless, the Church itself did not comment, to Kevin Smith's joy.
An interesting tidbit of trivia, because of Matt Damon's role as Loki in "Dogma", he received an amusing role in "Thor: Ragnarok" as an actor who plays Loki.
9. School Ties (1992)

The 1992 film "School Ties" really helped launch Matt Damon and Ben Affleck's careers into high gear. This was Damon's fourth and Affleck's second film, however, their performances in the film really helped showcase their talent.
The plot centers on a Massachusetts prep school where a Jewish boy, David Greene, played by Brendan Fraser, has received a scholarship to play football. When he discovers the rampant antisemitism at the school, he hides his heritage, however, the truth comes out. David's schoolmates harass him to the point that even when a classmate cheats on a test and the crib sheet is discovered, the class blames David out of sheer prejudice. Matt Damon plays Charlie Dillon, one of the primary anti-Semitic students, and Ben Affleck plays Chesty Smith, an enforcer for the racists.
10. Invictus (2009)

"Invictus" was a 2009 biographical sports drama that was directed by Clint Eastwood and starred Morgan Freeman as Nelson Mandela and Matt Damon as François Pienaar, the captain of the South African rugby team. The nation is divided in the aftermath of apartheid and South Africa is set to host the Rugby World Cup in 1995. Mandela wants the Springboks to win so that it will unify the nation as Pienaar follows Mandela's dream.
The poem, "Invictus" by William Ernest Henley is the inspiration for the team, as the title means 'unconquered'.
11. Downsizing (2017)

"Downsizing" is a 2017 drama which stars Matt Damon as Paul Safranek, a regular person who undergoes the process of downsizing. In the movie, due to Earth's overpopulation problem, people have been choosing to 'downsize' their lives by undergoing an irreversible shrinking process. Paul and his wife Audrey choose to downsize, however, at the last moment Audrey backs out.
This leaves Paul alone in a new tiny world trying to cope with his new reality. When he befriends Ngoc Lan Tran, a Vietnamese cleaner, he realizes that the downsized world is not as ideal as it was made out to be.
12. The Accountant (2016)

Ben Affleck stars in the 2016 action film "The Accountant". It tells the story of an autistic accountant, Chris, who was exposed to a regimen of sensory overload and martial arts as a child to make his sensory processing disorder not affect him negatively. His job is twofold, he exposes financial deceptions of organized crime and he also, covertly, enforces justice. He gets his clients from a robotic voice that contacts him, and the current job is one that cannot be finished because the CFO seemingly took his own life.
However, the plot thickens when Chris is targeted by a hitman squad that is bent on taking him out. It turns out that the hitman is Chris' estranged brother, Braxton, and, in the fight that ensues, Chris is able to close the case by killing the person responsible for the embezzlement he was sent to investigate. In the end, Chris is seen leaving with all of his possessions, changing identities once again.
13. Chasing Amy (1997)

"Chasing Amy" was a romantic comedy directed by Kevin Smith and is the third installment in his "View Askewniverse" series. It was released in 1997 and has Ben Affleck as Holden McNeil, a comic artist, who falls in love with a fellow comic book artist, Alyssa Jones, played by Joey Lauren Adams. Holden soon discovers that Alyssa is a lesbian, however, despite this, the two start a relationship.
However, Holden has a difficult time coming to terms with Alyssa's past and the two eventually break up. Matt Damon also has a small part in this film as a comic executive who offers to buy the rights to the comic that Holden and his friend Banky are writing and creating a television series.
14. The Last Duel (2021)

"The Last Duel" is a 2021 historical drama directed by Ridley Scott and starring Matt Damon as Sir Jean de Carrouges, a French squire who swears loyalty to Count Pierre d'Alençon, played by Ben Affleck. When a fellow squire, Jacques, seizes some of Jean's lands, this creates a rift between the two. Jean marries, and while he is away, Jacques forces himself upon Jean's wife.
When she confesses this to Jean, he demands justice in the form of a duel, to the death!
15. He's Just Not That Into You (2009)

"He's Just Not That Into You" was a 2009 rom-com that follows the love life of nine characters. Ben Affleck plays Neil, a guy in a long-term relationship who doesn't want to get married. This prompts his long-time girlfriend, Beth (played by Jennifer Aniston), to break up with him.
However, when a family tragedy shows Beth how dysfunctional her family actually is and how helpful and loving Neil actually is. Beth takes back Neil, and Neil eventually proposes.
