Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Hopalong Cassidy

Answer: William Boyd

William Boyd started out in Hollywood in 1919 as a stage hand then featured as an extra in over 30 silent films. He was spotted by Cecil b. DeMille who gave him the lead in "The Volga Boatman" in 1926. Boyd became a matinee idol and with the advent of sound his gravelly voice allowed him to play many detective or 'heavy' roles.

In 1935 Boyd first played Hopalong Cassidy in "Hopalong Cassidy". In late 1936 he played the character again in "Hopalong Cassidy Returns" and thereafter until he retired from films and television he played no other character.

In 1948 he purchased the rights to all the Hopalong Cassidy movies. He in fact became Hoppy, so much so that when reportedly offered the role of Moses in "The Ten Commandments" he declined, stating that he was too identified with Cassidy character to be believable.
2. Rhett Butler

Answer: Clark Gable

Aptly called the King of Hollywood in the 1930s and winning an Oscar for his performance in "It Happened One Night", Gable will always be associated with the Rhett Butler character in "Gone With The Wind". "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn" is the quote most associated with the movie and the character.
3. Rick Blaine

Answer: Humphrey Bogart

"Everybody Comes to Rick's" was the original title for "Casablanca". The movie starred Humphrey Bogart as Rick and Ingrid Bergman as Ilsa Lund. With a marvelous supporting cast including Claude Rains, Peter Lorre, Sidney Greenstreet, Paul Henreid and Conrad Veidt, "Casablanca" is near the top of the list on most "Best Ever" or "Greatest of All Time" movie lists.

Interestingly, Humphrey Bogart is linked to three other iconic movie characters: Sam Spade from "The Maltese Falcon", (Mad Dog) Roy Earle in "High Sierra" and Charles P Allnutt in "The African Queen".
4. Henry Higgins

Answer: Rex Harrison

On Broadway and on film, Rex Harrison will be remembered for his role of Professor Henry Higgins in "My Fair Lady". Harrison enjoyed a 60 year career on stage and screen. His performance as Julius Caesar in "Cleopatra" was lauded by the critics and fans fondly remember him as Dr Doolittle, from the movie of the same name. Also memorable is his role as Captain Gregg in the romantic "The Ghost and Mrs Muir" with Gene Tierney.
5. Don Vito Corleone

Answer: Marlon Brando

Marlon Brando set the benchmark for future Mafia Dons on film with his portrayal of Don Corleone in "The Godfather". This saga of life inside a crime family is considered by many film critics and historians to be one of the best movies of all time. Marlon Brando won his second Best Actor Oscar for this role, having earlier won for his role as Terry Malloy in "On The Waterfront".
6. James Bond

Answer: Sean Connery

Barry Nelson, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, George Lazenby, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig have all appeared on our screens as James Bond but for many the only Bond is Sean Connery. Connery first played 007 on the big screen in 1962's "Dr No" and then in six subsequent movies.

He left Bond behind and sought better acting jobs, appearing in some fine movies like "The Man Who Would Be King", "The Hunt For Red October" and "The Untouchables". An Oscar for Best Supporting Actor came his way for "The Untouchables".

In the 1967 movie "Casino Royale" David Niven, Woody Allen, Peter Sellers and Terrence Cooper all appeared as Bond. This movie was a sendup so it is not considered part of the James Bond franchise.
7. Henry Jones Jr

Answer: Harrison Ford

The scene in "Raiders of the Lost Ark" where Henry (Indiana) Jones Jr as played by Harrison Ford shoots the scimitar wielding Egyptian swordsman is forever embedded in our psyche and associated with the 1980s. Harrison Ford has played Indy in several movies. Ford is also associated with Han Solo in the "Star Wars" movies.
8. Harry Callaghan

Answer: Clint Eastwood

Originally offered to Frank Sinatra, the role of Harry Callaghan eventually and indelibly belongs to Clint Eastwood. Through all the "Dirty Harry" movies we think of no one other than Clint in that role. The character has introduced some sayings into our culture such as, "Go ahead, make my day", "Do you feel lucky" and "A man's gotta know his limitations".
9. Paul Kersey

Answer: Charles Bronson

The 1974 movie "Death Wish" starred Charles Bronson as the married architect turned vigilante, Paul Kersey. Bronson played the character in four sequels. According to his biography Charles Bronson born Charles Buchinsky first appeared on screen in 1950.

He appeared as a screen heavy during the 1950s then landed a role in "The Magnificent Seven" in 1960. He went on to star in "The Great Escape", The Dirty Dozen" and "The Battle of The Bulge" in the 1960s.
10. John McClane

Answer: Bruce Willis

Bruce Willis as John McLane is the main character in "Die Hard". John McClane is a NYC detective who can't seem to avoid trouble. The movie has spawned many sequels and a number of video games. Bruce Willis has appeared in a number of high grossing films such as "Armageddon", "Hart's War", "Pulp Fiction", "The Siege" and "Tears of The Sun".

It is as John McLane that he is always remembered.
