"Memento" (2000) starts from the end and works its way back. It's full of action, complicated and incredibly compelling. Leonard (Guy Pearce), is unable to make new memories and relies on tattoos and notes to help seek revenge on the men he thinks raped and murdered his wife.

A serious story with one of the funniest lines - remember that he has a about a three minute memory "Okay, so what am I doing? Oh, I'm chasing this guy? [a gun is fired] No, he's chasing me.".

"I am Legend" (2007) stars Will Smith as Robert Neville, a military scientist alone in New York for three years after a biochemical disease has wiped out most of Earth's population. Sending out daily radio calls and trying to invent a cure for the virus as he manages to survive mutant humans wanting to feast on him.

I was surprised to learn that busy New York streets were actually closed for filming in 2006 and the overgrown abandoned street were not just special effects. Not surprisingly, New Yorkers were not happy.

Kathy Bates brings to life Annie Wilkes from Stephen King's novel of the same name. She is perfect as a tooty fruity fruit loop combining humour and brutality against James Caan playing the author who has the misfortune to have Annie as his number-one fan.

"10 Things I Hate About You" (1999) is loosely based on Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew". Bianca and her wannabe boyfriend can't date until Bianca's boy-hating sister does, so they plot a convoluted scheme to match Kat (Julia Stiles) with her male equivalent (Heath Ledger).
