Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What 1963 film starring Elizabeth Taylor was once one of the most expensive films ever made and actually won Taylor a Guinness Record for excessive costume changes?

Answer: Cleopatra

Also starring Richard Burton and Rex Harrison, "Cleopatra" was popular in its time, but ended up being quite expensive to make, inevitably costing over $44,000,000 in 1963. While it became the top-grossing film of 1963 it put its studio in financial jeopardy.

The film followed the end of Cleopatra's life and her relationships with Julius Caesar and Marc Anthony before her famous death by asp. It won four of the nine Oscars it was nominated for.
2. What 2007 Pixar film starred a rodent and was set in France?

Answer: Ratatouille

"Ratatouille", the eighth film created as a joint venture between Disney and Pixar, featured the voices of Patton Oswalt, Janeane Garofalo, and Ian Holm. A popular animated film for kids and adults alike, it earned over $600,000,000 in the box office and went on to win the Oscar for Best Animated Feature in its year of release.

The movie, about a rat living in Paris and taking on the role as a chef in a fancy restaurant (through the use of his new friend, Alfredo), was a major success. Director Brad Bird also filmed "The Incredibles" with Pixar.
3. Subtitled "Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan", what 2006 film starred Sacha Baron Cohen, in-character, traveling across the U.S.?

Answer: Borat

Certainly a 'very good time', "Borat" poked fun at American customs as Cohen, in character, traveled around the States filming his alleged documentary. In reality, Borat was one of the lesser-known characters on Cohen's reality-TV show "Da Ali G Show" in which he played characters created to satirize and expose interviewed subjects.

The movie came to a climax when Borat arrived at a book signing to kidnap Pamela Anderson in his marriage sack. The movie became extremely popular and oft-quoted in the years following its release.

It made well over $250,000,000 in the box office.
4. Sigourney Weaver returned as Ripley in what 1986 action film set on LV-426 and directed by James Cameron?

Answer: Aliens

"Aliens" took the lone survivor of "Alien", Ellen Ripley (and, to be fair, Jones the cat) and sent her back to the alien planet to investigate the faulty signals being sent from a human colony. When she and a troop of marines arrived, however, what they found was worse than they could have imagined. Sure enough there were more aliens in Ripley's second outing. An early work by James Cameron, the movie was extremely popular and quite well-received.

It also resulted in an Oscar nomination for Weaver.
5. "Who ya gonna call?" This line from the theme song of a popular 1984 sci-fi/comedy would ultimately be followed by what answer?

Answer: Ghostbusters

"Ghostbusters" featured four New York City men who, following up on paranormal research, joined forces to create the first-ever firm for capturing and disposing of ghostly entities. Unfortunately, their work took them to the feet of the evil Gozer, a God with the intent to kill and rule over the world. Starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Sigourney Weaver, "Ghostbusters" was a huge hit, grossing early $300,000,000 and resulting in a sequel in 1989.
6. Starring virtually no one other than Sam Rockwell, what 2009 sci-fi film about a man mining helium-3 was the directorial debut of David Bowie's son, Duncan Jones?

Answer: Moon

"Moon", critically renowned, made its first appearance at Sundance and on a film festival circuit before getting a limited release. Nonetheless, the film, about a man who discovered a shocking secret about his role to play on the moon, ended up winning awards internationally.

The movie starred Sam Rockwell but also featured the voice of Kevin Spacey as GERTY, the AI responsible for his safety. Duncan Jones would go on to film "Source Code" in 2011, persisting with the sci-fi genre.
7. In what 2012 James Bond film starring Daniel Craig did the spy face off against former M16 agent Raoul Silva?

Answer: Skyfall

In this critically acclaimed Bond outing directed by "American Beauty" director Sam Mendes, 007 faced off against Javier Bardem's Raoul Silva in one of the closest-to-home encounters in the series. With Silva targeting M (Judi Dench), it was up to Bond to save the day yet again.

The movie earned over one billion dollars in the box office to become one of the top-grossing movies released (let alone top Bond movies ever made). It was nominated for five Oscars and won two, one of which was for the theme song as sung by Adele.
8. Matthew McConaughey jumped through the wormhole known as Gargantua in what 2014 Christopher Nolan movie?

Answer: Interstellar

Set in a future in which Earth was no longer able to sustain itself, McConaughey's character headed into outer space in an attempt to find a new planet for the people back home. Crossing into a wormhole near Saturn, however, it appeared as though the journey, spanning decades and dimensions, was far from an easy one to make. "Interstellar" starred McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, and many others.

It was critically praised, much like Nolan's previous works, and earned hundreds of millions during its time in the box office.
9. Saying the name of this movie out loud would likely designate the end of the game. In what 1995 movie did Robin Williams need to play until he reached the end...despite being sent to a jungle for twenty-six years?

Answer: Jumanji

"Jumanji", based on a children's book from the 1980s, starred Robin Williams, Bonnie Hunt, Kirsten Dunst, and Bradley Pierce as a group of players completing a board game..but over two and a half decades. As it turned out, the Jumanji game found in a construction site by Alan Parrish, was magical and, unless they completed the game once it was started, they would be stuck playing indefinitely. Rolling, of course, had its consequences, spawning dangerous creatures of all sorts.

The film became a kids' classic of the 1990s, earning $262,000,000 in the box office.
10. What 1976 film based on Stephen King's first novel starred Sissy Spacek in the title role?

Answer: Carrie

Following the story of a high school-aged girl with telekinetic powers, "Carrie" starred Sissy Spacek as Carrie White and Piper Laurie as her mother. The movie ended up following the events leading up to and including Carrie's high school prom which, when Carrie was provoked, resulted in a horrifying bloodbath (in more ways than one).

The film, directed by Brian De Palma, received two Oscar nominations for the main actresses and was the first in a long line of Stephen King adaptations over the decades.

It was remade in 2013 with Chloë Grace Moretz in the title role.
