Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was going on during the song "Something"?

Answer: Painting Lucy

Jude was painting a painting of his girlfriend, Lucy, whilst singing the song "Something". He had originally been just doodling, but one thing led to another... Evan Rachel Wood (Lucy) said that filming "Something" was one of the most beautiful scenes she had ever filmed. This began a turning point in the movie, when Jude and Lucy's relationship became much more important to the story.

The song "Something" was written by George Harrison and first appeared on the album "Abbey Road".
2. Who was "chilled out", according to Mr. Kite?

Answer: The Blue People

Eddie Izzard, who played Mr. Kite during the number "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite", ad-libbed "With the blue people! They're great! They're just... chilled out!" He was singing and dancing outside a makeshift circus, with people, who were literally blue, dancing with him.

"Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite" was composed mostly by John Lennon, with a bit of Paul McCartney's assistance, and first appeared on the album "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band".
3. What was Max and Lucy's last name?

Answer: Carrigan

Their last name was stated first when Lucy was discussing going to New York with her mother, and then was used a few times afterwards. Many characters in this film were not given last names, as the creators felt it ruined the effect of naming each character after a song.
4. Who sang the line "Could it be anybody?" in "With a Little Help From My Friends", in the movie?

Answer: an old man

Max and his friends, plus Jude, were in a bar singing "With a Little Help From My Friends", when an old man sitting alone at the bar piped up, singing a line of the song. The man sings several other lines of the song in the film, but on the soundtrack, Joe Anderson (Max) sings them.

"With A Little Help From My Friends" was written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, and first appeared on the album "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band".
5. When Jude first came into the office singing "Revolution", what were the first words out of Lucy's mouth?

Answer: "Jude, what are you doing?"

Jude was trying to make his point, about what Lucy's employer's intentions really were, but the way he was doing it left Lucy very confused and hurt. This appeared towards the end of the film, after Jude and Lucy got in an argument at the laundromat.

"Revolution" was written by John Lennon, and first appeared on the album "The Beatles", also known as "The White Album", which came out in 1968.
6. What did the creators of "Across the Universe" change about Prudence's character?

Answer: Her sexuality

In the song she sang at cheer practice, she said "Let me be your man". Instead of changing the lyrics, director Julie Taymor went ahead and left it in there, making Prudence a lesbian.

The song she sang was "I Wanna Hold Your Hand", and was written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney.
7. What was Lucy's boyfriend named, at the beginning of the movie?

Answer: Daniel

Daniel was her boyfriend, but he got killed in Vietnam. Shortly afterwards, Lucy met Jude, and the rest was history.

Max was her brother, Jude was her boyfriend in the end of the film, and Ringo was one of The Beatles.
8. Did any of The Beatles appear in this film?

Answer: No

No, none of The Beatles appeared in this movie. However, Paul McCartney and John's wife, Yoko, were in contact with director Julie Taymor throughout the filming and highly praised it, once they saw it.
9. What Oscar was the film was nominated for?

Answer: Costume Design

"Across the Universe" was nominated for an Oscar because of the costumes, but lost against "Elizabeth: The Golden Age". They were also up against "Atonement", "Sweeney Todd", and "Môme, La".

Albert Wolsky designed the costumes for "Across The Universe".
10. Finish the lyrics: "I am he as you are he as you are me, and_____".

Answer: "we are all together"

It is from the song "I am the Walrus" written by John Lennon and was performed by John Lennon's friend, Bono, in the film. Bono, who played "Dr. Robert", sang it at a party scene, where Jude, Max, Lucy, and the others experimented with drugs.

"I am the Walrus" was written by John Lennon. The song appeared on the album "Magical Mystery Tour", and it was also performed in the film "Magical Mystery Tour".
