Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Playing the part of Doctor Robert, which rocker sang these enigmatic lyrics? "I am he, as you are he, as you are me and we are all together. See how they run like pigs from a gun, see how they fly. I'm crying."

Answer: Bono

Known on stage as simply Bono, this front man for the Irish band U2 was born Paul David Hewson in Dublin.
The character name Doctor Robert came from the Beatles song of the same name, and he was portrayed in the film as sort of a Ken Kesey type, travelling across the country in a wildly painted bus, having written a book.
He sang the psychedelic song "I Am the Walrus" at his book launching party, where it seemed that recreational drugs might had been added to the punch.

"I Am the Walrus" was on the "Magical Mystery Tour" album, released in 1967.
2. Upset at being snubbed by Dr. Geary, Doctor Robert headed back to the coast, leaving our friends behind. Accompanied by dancing blue people, which character sang these lyrics, welcoming our friends to his show? "For the benefit of Mr. Kite, There will be a show tonight on trampoline. The Hendersons will all be there, Late of Pablo-Fanques Fair, what a scene. (Have you seen it? It's great, they got stuff.)"

Answer: Mr. Kite

Left behind by Robert, our friends were enticed by the sound of music. In a circus type atmosphere, Mr. Kite invited them to his show, where they found Prudence roller skating as Henry the Horse.
Standup comedian Eddie Izzard adlibbed his way through the song, only occasionally bumping into the blue people who were bouncing around behind him.

"Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite" was released on the Beatles LP "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely hearts Club Band" in 1967.
3. Lying in a field of grass, which characters sang the hauntingly beautiful song containing these lyrics? "Because the world is round it turns me on. Because the world is round...aaaaaahhhhhh. Because the wind is high it blows my mind. Because the wind is high...aaaaaaaahhhh. Love is old, love is new. Love is all, love is you."

Answer: All the main characters

While most of the songs in the film were related to the plot, this one did not appear to be. The characters laid in a field of tall grass, with their heads together near the centre of the circle, and sang this song in beautiful harmony, with very little accompaniment from instruments.
The singers included Jude, Lucy, Sadie, Jo-Jo, Prudence, her new friend Rita, Max and a couple of unidentified girls.

"Because" was released on "Abbey Road" in 1969.
4. During an obviously strained concert and a very public break-up, which characters sang the song containing the following lyrics? "Oh! Darling, if you leave me, I'll never make it alone. Believe me when I beg you, Don't ever leave me alone. When you told me you didn't need me anymore, Well you know I nearly broke down and cried. When you told me you didn't need me anymore, Well you know I nearly fell down and died."

Answer: Sadie and Jo-Jo

Sadie had been offered a recording contract that did not include the rest of the band. In their last performance together, she started singing this song. Jo-Jo angrily joined in, causing Sadie to walk off. Jo-Jo and the rest of the band finished the song without her.
Sadie was played by Dana Fuchs and Jo-Jo was played by Martin Luther.

"Oh! Darling" was released on Abbey Road.
5. Which characters, in totally different circumstances, sang the song containing these lyrics? "Let me take you down, 'cause I'm going to Strawberry Fields. Nothing is real and nothing to get hung about. Strawberry Fields forever. Living is easy with eyes closed, misunderstanding all you see. It's getting hard to be someone but it all works out. It doesn't matter much to me."

Answer: Jude and Max

As his relationship with Lucy deteriorated, Jude struggled to come up with a design for Sadie's record company logo. He pinned strawberries to the wall as he sang and the juice ran down like blood. Across the world in Vietnam, Max also sang the song, while coming under fire.
Jude was played by Jim Sturgess and Max was played by Joe Anderson.

"Strawberry Fields Forever" was released (in the States) on "Magical Mystery Tour" in 1967.
6. In late night club scene, who sang the song that contains these lyrics? "I look at you all see the love there that's sleeping, While my guitar gently weeps. I look at the floor and I see it need sweeping, Still my guitar gently weeps. I don't know why nobody told you, How to unfold your love. I don't know how someone controlled you, They bought and sold you."

Answer: Jo-Jo

Jo-Jo sang this song while playing his guitar in the pub, with Jude drinking and occasionally chiming in. Jo-Jo could very well have been singing the song to his lost love Sadie, as the words were so fitting. Jude had just burst into where his love, Lucy, was volunteering with the anti-war group led by Paco, singing "Revolution". As the dawn approached, Jude made his way home to find that Lucy had moved out.

"While My Guitar Gently Weeps" was released on the LP commonly known as "The White Album", in 1968.
7. While travelling to a peace rally, in a state of depression, which character sang these philosophical words? "Words are flying out like Endless rain into a paper cup. They slither while they pass, They slip away across the universe. Pools of sorrow waves of joy, Are drifting thorough my open mind, Possessing and caressing me. Jai guru deva om. Nothing's gonna change my world. Nothing's gonna change my world. Nothing's gonna change my world. Nothing's gonna change my world."

Answer: Jude

Faced with the fact that Lucy had left him, Jude set off to reach the peace rally where he knew she would be. Much of the song was sung on a subway, with a variety of different people, illustrating the wonderful diversity in the world. At one point a group of Hare Krishnas could be seen dancing through a passing subway.
When Jude reached the rally, it turned violent and he was arrested trying to get to Lucy. His lack of visa caused him to be deported.

"Across the Universe" was released on the LP "Let It Be" in 1970.
8. Which recently damaged character sang these somewhat appropriate lyrics? "Happiness is a warm gun. (Bang bang, shoot shoot) Happiness is a warm gun, momma. (Bang bang, shoot shoot) When I hold you in my arms, (Ooooooooohhh, oh yeah!) And when I feel my finger on your trigger. I know nobody can do me no harm, Because happiness is a warm gun, momma. (Bang bang, shoot shoot.)"

Answer: Max

Injured in Vietnam, Max was lying in a veterans' hospital when he sang this song. Multiple copies of a nurse with a hypodermic (played by Salma Hayek) sexily crooned some of the refrain and the rest of the injured soldiers joined in on the repeated line "Mother Superior jumped the gun", which was played, in the film, as a priest closing the eyes of a soldier who turned out to not be dead yet.

"Happiness is a Warm Gun" was released on the LP known as "The White Album" in 1968.
9. Sitting in a bar, "communicating" through a mirror, who sang the following lyrics? "Hey Jude don't make it bad, Take a sad song and make it better. Remember to let her into your heart, Then you can start to make it better. Hey Jude don't be afraid, You were made to go out and get her. The minute you let her under your skin, Then you begin to make it better."

Answer: Max

Back in England, Jude was once again a shipyard worker, and not very happy with his life. After work he went to a pub for a pint. Across the ocean in New York, Max was also in a pub. Staring into the mirror over the bar, Max started singing the song to Jude, encouraging him to come back to the States and reclaim his love.
The refrain was taken up by the local children and even Jude's mother chimed in as Jude prepared to enter the States legally.

"Hey Jude" was released as a single in the UK, but in the US it was on an LP titled "Hey Jude", released in 1970.
10. In an el fresco performance, which character(s) sang the song containing these lyrics? "I'm in love for the first time. Don't you know it's gonna last. It's a love that lasts forever, It's a love that has no past. Don't let me down, please, don't let me down. Don't let me down, don't let me down."

Answer: Jo-Jo and Sadie

Reunited and making a comeback, Sadie and Jo-Jo staged a rooftop concert, similar to the one that the Beatles performed on a rooftop in London. "Don't Let Me Down" was one of the songs the Beatles performed that day and both concerts were broken up by the police.
After everyone cleared the rooftop, Jude took the microphone and sang "All You Need is Love" to entice Lucy into coming back for a happy ending.

In the US "Don't Let Me Down" was released on the LP "Hey Jude", released in 1970. In the UK it was released as the B side of "Get Back".
