Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. 'I know kung fu.'

Answer: The Matrix

'The Matrix' came out in 1999, starring Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Laurence Fishburn, and Joe Pantoliano. Then Moss and Pantoliano were in 'Memento' together the following year. I hope they like working together...
2. 'I'm the king of the world.'

Answer: Titanic

Hmm. What to say about this movie without stepping on toes? It had good special effects. Honestly, I didn't like the movie, though Kathy Bates was excellent.
3. 'I see dead people.'

Answer: The Sixth Sense

Now this was a cool movie! Call me slow, but I was not expecting the end, and I was sure I'd seen things that should have disproved it. Of course, that's the magic of film - make the audience believe something is happening even when it's not. Sort of like all the viewers who believed there were shots of knife entry in the shower scene of 'Psycho'. Oh, now I'm just rambling.
4. 'The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist. And like that, he was gone.'

Answer: The Usual Suspects

This is one of my favorite movies. The cast is so unbearably cool, and Kevin Spacey is beyond excellent. Bryan Singer seems to be a good director, too (he did 'X-Men' and 'Apt Pupil'), but have you seen 'Public Access'? If not, count yourself as lucky. That was a mistake to rent.
5. (This isn't so much a quote, but...) The male star slaps his cheeks and screams into the camera.

Answer: Home Alone

Who doesn't know this scene? Macaulay Culkin's fame was assured with this role, but unfortunately that fame seems indelibly connected to the role, as none of his movies since have had much success (with the exception of 'My Girl').
6. The scientist says: 'You are saying that a group of animals, entirely composed of females, will breed?' And the mathematician replies: 'No, I am merely stating that uhh... life finds a way.'

Answer: Jurassic Park

A classic Spielberg movie, 'Jurassic Park' certainly was a marvel to behold. Personally, I loved Jeff Goldblum in this role. He had the funniest lines!
7. (I'm leaving out the first part for obvious reasons) '... phone home.'

Answer: E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial

Ah, yes. Drew Barrymore's first major movie. This was a classic with kids in the 80s.
8. Lead female exclaims: 'Ugh! As if!'

Answer: Clueless

After this and 'Fast Times at Ridgemont High', I thought Amy Heckerling should be the crowned queen of capturing the essence of generations. Then she did 'Loser', and that movie's title is just a tad too fitting.
9. Wife asks: 'Uh, whose car is that out front?' Husband replies: 'Mine. 1970 Pontiac Firebird. The car I've always wanted and now I have it. I rule!'

Answer: American Beauty

Wow. This movie sort of came out of nowhere. Kevin Spacey was, of course, magnificent, and Annette Bening was fantastic. Actually, everyone turned out an incredible performance. The only real criticism I heard of this movie had to do with the heavy-handedness of the symbolism. And yet, Nathaniel Hawthorne is much loved by critics. It's a strange world.
10. 'What we do in life echoes in eternity.'

Answer: Gladiator

Well, if you didn't already love Russell Crowe, this movie turned you. He was incredible, and Joaquin Phoenix was such a good villain. And then, of course, there was all that fight choreography. What more needs to be said?
