Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. (2003) '...and thirdly, the Code is more what you'd call Guidelines than actual rules.' - Captain Barbossa

Answer: Pirates of the Caribbean: the Curse of the Black Pearl

Elizabeth Swan has invoked the right of 'parley' to bargain a truce with the invading pirates. She thinks that they are after the medallion, and will leave peacefully once they get it. She doesn't realize that the medallion is only one of the things that they're after, and because she gave them a false name, they believe that she holds the blood that they also seek.
2. (1981) 'Wanna dance, or would you just rather suck face?' - Norman Thayer Jr.

Answer: On Golden Pond

Norman (played by Henry Fonda) has just had one of his 'spells'. After administering his heart medication, his wife (played by Katharine Hepburn) cradles him anxiously, worried that this time he won't come back. When the medication finally does kick in, Norman delivers this line, the terminology learned from the teenaged boy that had stayed with them for a large part of the summer. Fonda and Hepburn both received Oscars for their amazing performances.
3. (1991) 'Well, I've always believed that if done properly, armed robbery doesn't have to be an unpleasant experience.' - J.D.

Answer: Thelma and Louise

Running from the law because Louise (played by Susan Sarandon) shot a man who tried to rape Thelma (played by Geena Davis), the girls pick up a hitchhiker (played by Brad Pitt). This colourful character shows Thelma the very gentlemanly way in which he robs stores. Of course the next morning he takes off with the money that was supposed to see the women safely into Mexico.
4. (2000) 'Your hair should make a statement.' - Victor Melling 'As long as it doesn't say, "Thank you very much for the Country Music Award"!'. - Gracie Hart

Answer: Miss Congeniality

F.B.I. agent Gracie Hart (played by Sandra Bullock) has to go undercover in the Miss U.S.A. pageant because of terrorist-type threats that have been received. Victor Melling (played by Michael Caine) is the beauty consultant who has been given the monumental task of preparing her for the contest.
5. (1960) 'A boy's best friend is his mother.' - Norman Bates

Answer: Psycho

Norman Bates has more than an unhealthy obsession with his mother. He adopts her clothing and her persona as his alter-ego when he kills his victims, in this masterpiece by Hitchcock. Anthony Perkins, Janet Leigh, Vera Miles, Jon Gavin and Martin Balsalm starred.
6. (1996) 'I drink because I am a sensitive and highly strung person.' - Elise Elliott 'No, that's why your co-stars drink.' - Brenda Cushman

Answer: The First Wives Club

Elise, Brenda and Annie have formulated a plan to get even with their husbands who have all dumped them for younger women. The path is not entirely smooth, and at one point Elise and Brenda have a huge fight during which these lines are said. Goldie Hawn, Bette Midler and Diane Keaton are amazing in this very funny movie that was directed by Hugh Wilson.
7. (1991) 'I wish we could chat longer, but I'm having an old friend for dinner.' - Dr. Lecter

Answer: The Silence of the Lambs

This is almost the last line of the movie, delivered by Hannibal (played by Anthony Hopkins) over the phone to Jodie Foster's character after she has just graduated from the F.B.I. training academy. As Hannibal strolls off down the rosd in pursuit of his old nemesis, Dr. Frederick Chilton, we are left hearing Foster's character repeat 'Dr. Lecter...' over and over.
8. (1985) 'There's that word again, heavy. Why are things so heavy in the future? Is there a problem with the Earth's gravitational pull?' - Dr. Emmett Brown

Answer: Back to the Future

Sent back to the past in Emmett Brown's (played by Christopher Lloyd) time machine, Marty McFly (played by Michael J. Fox) seeks out Dr. Brown's earlier self to help him return to his own time. It takes some doing, but Marty finally convinces the Doc that he's who he claims to be.

This line is said in reference to the fact that Marty frequently uses the word 'heavy' as an expression that Brown takes literally.
9. (1990) 'I have a headache.' - Detective John Kimble 'It might be a tumor.' - Lowell 'It is not a tumor.' - Kimble

Answer: Kindergarten Cop

Posing as a kindergarten teacher, in order to track down the ex-wife of a drug lord, Kimble (played by Arnold Schwarzenegger) is exposed to the precocious behaviour of plain speaking six year old children, who parrot what their parents say without always completely understanding it!
10. (1965) 'Somewhere out there is a lady who, I think, will never be a nun. Auf Wiedersehen darling.' - the Baroness

Answer: The Sound of Music

Although she herself had hoped to marry Captain von Trapp, the Baroness chose to save face by gracefully bowing out, once she realized that the Captain was in love with Maria. Immediately after this scene the Captain (played by Christopher Plummer) seeks out Maria (played by Julie Andrews) to let her know that he loves her.
