Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. At the very start of "Fahrenheit 11/9" (2018), where is Hillary Rodham Clinton campaigning?

Answer: Philadelphia

The film opens with "Was it all just a dream?", which echoes Moore's 2004 documentary "Fahrenheit 9/11". The earlier film opens discussing how the electoral college resulted in a candidate who lost the popular vote winning the election.

Clinton is campaigning in Philadelphia on the night before the 2016 election. There is a a caption "Election Eve, Philadelphia" at the very start of the film. Moore contrasts the hope of Election Day 2016 with the despair of Election Night 2016, as results grew worse and worse for Clinton supporters until Trump won at 2:17 the morning of November 9.

There are scenes of Clinton's party in New York City on election night.

Moore notes that crucial victories by Trump in Ohio, Florida and North Carolina, but especially Wisconsin and Michigan, were critical to Trump's electoral college victory.
2. In "Fahrenheit 11/9" (2018) Michael Moore and Donald Trump appear together on a talk show in 1998. Who was hosting the show?

Answer: Roseanne Barr

Roseanne Barr had a very short lived talk show in 1998 and 1999. She made 54 daily episodes and another 17 random episodes. The show began on September 14, and was effectively over by the end of November. The episode with Trump and Moore happened in November.

Moore actually criticizes himself for not being harder on Trump during the conversation. It is part of a running theme throughout "Farenheit 11/9" that people knew exactly how terrible Trump was for many years, but did little to actually stop him.

Trump was a frequent guest on Howard Stern. While Stern is not known for his sensitivity towards women, even the shock jock found Trump's attitudes towards women creepy. Magic Johnson did have a very short lived talk show in 1998.
3. Much of "Fahrenheit 11/9" focuses on the water crisis in Flint, Michigan, Moore's home town. What is NOT something that Moore claims Michigan Governor Rick Snyder did?

Answer: Told the truth to the people of Flint

The Flint water crisis began in April 2014, when the city switched from Lake Huron water to water from the Flint River. The river water corroded the lead pipes around the city, and added dangerously high concentrations of lead to the city's drinking water.

Moore interviews both a doctor who treated lead victims and a health care case worker who was instructed to falsify medical records to minimize the crisis.

Much of the Flint crisis is linked to Michigan's Emergency Act, which Snyder used to oust elected officials in Detroit, Flint, Pontiac and Benton Harbor, and replace them with cronies who pursued policies that benefited Snyder and his political contributors.

At no point in the film does Moore ever suggest that Snyder was truthful with the people of Flint or the people of Michigan.
4. What does "Fahrenheit 11/9" say about Bernie Sanders' performance in the 2016 Democratic primary in West Virginia?

Answer: Sanders won every county, but received a minority of the delegates.

In West Virginia, Sanders won every county and won 51.4 percent of the vote. He received 18 pledged delegates. Hillary Clinton won 35.8 percent, and received 11 pledged delegates. However, the state's 8 unpledged delegates (Super delegates) all voted for Clinton, so she received 19 votes to Sanders' 18.

Moore uses West Virginia as the extreme example of how the Democratic National Committee rigged the rules of the 2016 election to favor Hillary Clinton. He cites several other states where Sanders won the primary or caucus, yet Clinton received a majority of the delegates.
5. Michael Moore spoke with several congressional candidates in "Fahrenheit 11/9". Which one is correctly matched with the state where they are running?

Answer: Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, New York

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has emerged as the new shining star for progressives after defeating veteran congressman Joseph Crowley in New York's 14th District. Establishment Democrats backed Crowley, while the Bernie Sanders' wing of the party backed Ocasio-Cortez.

Rashida Tlaib is a former state legislator from Michigan. She is the Democratic nominee in Michigan's 13th district and is unopposed; she will be the first Muslim woman to serve in Congress.

Hepburn was running in Florida's 27th district. He lost in the August 28, 2018 primary.

Richard Ojeda, the outspoken guy in the diner, is a State Senator from West Virginia. He is the Democratic candidate for Congress in West Virginia 3.
6. "Fahrenheit 11/9" spends a lot of time focusing on striking school teachers in what state?

Answer: West Virginia

The film focuses on the West Virginia strike, which took place from February 22 to March 7, 2018. Almost every teacher in the state joined the strike, which eventually forced the state legislature and governor to concede to their demands.

Teachers in Oklahoma struck from April 2 to April 12. The Colorado strike began on April 27 and ended on May 12. The Arizona strike lasted from April 26 to May 3. In all four strikes, teacher won their demands from Republican legislators and governors.
7. Michael Moore spends a great deal of time with students from Parkland High School. Where was the politician who called Parkland survivor Emma Gonzalez a "skinhead lesbian" from?

Answer: Maine

Displaying the amazing power of social media, Leslie Gibson, who was running unopposed in Maine's 57th district, had an opponent within 24 hours of making the "skinhead lesbian" comment. Gibson immediately dropped out of the race. Democrat Eryn Gilchrist and Republican Thomas Martin Jr filed for the state legislative seat.

Moore covers the Parkland students as they visit legislators in Tallahassee, and includes scenes from their massive protest in Washington DC. The film closes with a shot of Emma Gonzalez reading the names of the victims of the Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, which took place in Parkland, Florida on February 14, 2018.

The first scenes of Parkland are reminiscent of scenes from Moore's 2003 film "Bowling for Columbine". However, instead of a 911 call, he uses social media and cell phone video to illustrate the horror of the shooting.
8. A June 2015 visit by what branch of the United States government to Flint, Michigan is featured in "Fahrenheit 11/9" (2018)?

Answer: US Army

Moore has quite dramatic footage of military training exercises conducted in Flint in June of 2015. A city that was already rocked by poisoned water was jarred by military training exercises featuring helicopters, small explosions and tanks.

Moore is highly critical of Barack Obama, who made a highly publicized visit to Flint in May of 2016, then did little to relieve the suffering of the people of Flint. Residents of Flint were calling on the President to declare Flint a disaster area so they could receive federal assistance.
9. Towards the end of "Fahrenheit 11/9" (2018), Michael Moore focuses on the rise of what dictator?

Answer: Adolf Hitler

Moore notes how Germany had a highly advanced civilization, which had produced the printing press, as well as some of the world's greatest music, literature and scientific discoveries. Also cinema; Germany made great movies. Moore then details how Hitler seized power and turned the world's leading constitutional republic into a nightmarish dictatorship.

At one point, Moore uses footage of Hitler with audio of Trump; in another scene, Moore uses footage of Nazis with contemporary audio. The contrast is jarring. Moore talks with several historians who argue that the rise of despotism is very real in the United States.

Moore is highly critical of both Bill Clinton and Barack Obama for laying the groundwork that made the rise of Donald Trump possible. He also uses footage of Trump making jokes about being a despot. Trump is well-known for admiring strong man leaders such as Vladimir Putin, Rodrigo Duerte in the Phillipines and Kim Jong-Un in North Korea.
10. Fire plays a big part in the later stages of "Fahrenheit 11/9" (2018). What is the only thing NOT burning during a scene in the movie?

Answer: The US Constitution

At no point does Moore burn a copy of the US Constitution in the film.

There is a map of the United States made out of matches which burns. There is footage of the Reichstag burning during the section on Nazi Germany. And the man running on fire is during Moore's monologue about the need to take direct action to end not on the Trump administration, but the whole rotten political system that makes politicians like Trump possible.
