"Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore" Pt 1 Quiz

Answer: a Qilin

Qilins (pronounced Chillins) are very rare magical creatures that look a little like a deer. We later learn that they have the unique ability of determining if someone is pure of heart and will bow down to such a person if they encounter one. They also have the ability to see some of the future. When Newt arrives, the mother Qilin is pronounced to be ready by Newt, and soon gives birth to the baby, still in a sack. While Newt is tending to the baby, dark wizards from Grindelwald's crew arrive, deliver a killing curse to the mother and kidnap the infant. Newt comforts the dying mother to find that she has actually given birth to twins and he is able to save the second Qilin.

Magizoologist, Newt Scamander, is played by Eddie Redmayne.

Answer: blood from Grindewald and Dumbledore

When they were young and in love, with shared ideas about wizarding supremacy, they made this locket with drops of their blood combined within. Grindelwald mentions that he wore it around his neck for years. Why it has switched to Dumbledore's possession is never discussed but later in the movie, when questioned about it, Dumbledore gives a demonstration of what happens when he even thinks of harming Grindelwald. The chain tightens, constrictively, around his arm and the locket breaks free, bouncing all over gouging walls and anything else it touches. As Dumbledore clears his thoughts, the locket returns to the chain which releases its tight grip. Hence neither man can ever attack the other.
Albus Dumbledore is played very convincingly by Jude Law.
Gellert Grindelwald is played by Mads Mikkelson.

The group that joins together to assist Dumbledore in his quest to stop Grindewald's play for power consists of Newt Scamander, his brother Theseus (played by Callum Turner), Newt's assistant Bunty Broadacre (played by Victoria Yeates), Professor 'Lally' Hicks (played by Jessica Williams), muggle Jacob Kowalski (played by Dan Fogler) and Yusuf Kama (played by William Nadylam).

This is the group who meets on the train. Albus' brother, Aberforth (played by Richard Coyle), also joins the group, but not on the train. Queenie Goldstein (played by Alison Sudol) is a familiar face from the first two episodes of "Fantastic Beasts".

She and Jacob are in love but cannot be together because of Rappaport's Law, which forbids unions between magical and non-magical people.

She is convinced that Grindelwald can help her change this and so joined his group at the end of "Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald". Because of her many talents, especially her skill at reading minds, Grindelwald is happy to have her, even though he knows where her loyalties lie.

Answer: a wand

In this movie, we first see Jacob in his bakery, either in the early morning or late at night. Looking outside he sees a woman seated on a bench, seemingly being harassed by a group of men. Being who he is, Jacob grabs a pan and goes out to her aid. The woman is Professor 'Lally' Hicks and her alleged attackers are known to her, one of them being her cousin. She convinces Jacob to join the cause and whisks him off to the train via a portkey. While on the train, Newt gives him a wand from Dumbledore, which pleases Jacob a great deal. The wand is made from snakewood but has no magical core so is not actually usable.
'Lally' is a professor of charms at the American equivalent of Hogwarts.
Other members were given different items.

Answer: The mirror fogs and writing appears on it.

The mirror behind the bar fogs over, as if someone has breathed on it, and writing appears, one letter at a time. Messages like "Do you know what it's like to be alone?" appear periodically, with Aberforth wiping them away, trying to prevent Albus from seeing them. We later learn that the sender of the messages is Credence Barebone, once known as Aurelius Dumbledore, who is Aberforth's son.

They have not seen each other for years but communicate, occasionally, through the mirror. Throughout the movie, Albus talks of how Credence is dying, as evidenced by the fact that a Phoenix keeps visiting him. Credence/Aurelius is played by Ezra Miller.

Answer: Albus Dumbledore

Sent to kill Albus, his uncle, Credence does his level best and an epic battle ensues in the streets of Berlin. Credence has a great deal of anger at having been a Dumbledore who was, to all intents and purposes, ignored. This anger gives him an edge but it is not enough.

At some point they manage to invert reality so the battle seems to occur in a parallel dimension. When things are flipped back around the damage that has been done disappears and Credence is defeated. Albus speaks to him but he goes back to his master - Grindelwald.

Answer: an election

The International Confederation of Wizards is holding elections for a leader. This election is to take place in Bhutan in 1932. At the beginning of the movie there are two candidates for the position. They are Vicencia Santos (played by Maria Fernanda Candido), the Brazilian Minister for Magic and Liu Tao (played by David Wong). In the beginning of the movie, Grindelwald is a fugitive being sought for his sins at the end of the second "Fantastic Beasts" movie.

In "The Secrets of Dumbledore" he is caught, tried and found not guilty by the retiring Supreme Mugwump, Anton Vogel (played by Oliver Salucci).

As a free man he also chooses to run for 'Supreme Mugwump' (as it is referred to in fan fiction) of the Federation.

Answer: Theseus Scamander

Theseus is arrested by Grindelwald's gang whom he recognises and threatens to arrest. He is sent to Erkstag Prison, the German equivalent to Azkaban. Under Dumbledore's direction, Newt goes to rescue his brother. When Newt arrives at Erkstag there is one sleepy and grumpy guard who removes Newt's wand and put his pets, Teddy and Picket in cages.

Answer: He sees his brother's tie.

Upon entering the prison, Newt spots the distinctive tie that Dumbledore gave Theseus, so he knows that his brother is there. When Newt asks the guard where to find his brother, the guard replies that he will be the one who looks like his brother. When Newt promises his pets that he will return the jailer laughs and says "Sure and I'll be Minister of Magic.", but only once Newt has left. Armed only with a lantern lit by a glowing bug trapped inside Newt sets off through the tunnels.

Answer: via portkey

En route to finding his brother, Newt encounters masses of little Manticores, far too many to fight especially given the fact that he has no wand. Because of his experience with magical creatures, he knows that by mimicking their gait, (limbic mimicry he calls it) they will follow suit and they all walk along until they reach his brother who joins in the mimicry.

There is a monstrous sized Manticore in the pit and when anyone's light goes out a tentacle emerges, grabs the person and a few seconds later remains are spit up that are devoured by the smaller manticores. At one point Newt makes a call to his pets. Picket (the Bowtruckle) has no problem picking the locks and he and Teddy rescue Newt's wand and Theseus' tie.

They knock out the jailer in doing so. Meanwhile, Newt's lantern has gone out and they are running to evade the tentacle of the large Manticore.

The Manticore has a tentacle wrapped around Theseus but the animals arrive with the tie, which is a portkey, and they all escape, ending up back at Hogwarts with the severed tentacle still writhing around Theseus.
