Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In which movie do Fred and George Weasley fight each other, rolling around on the floor as they sprout long beards?

Answer: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)

Many students are keen on submitting their name into the Goblet of Fire, in the hopes of being chosen as the Triwizard Champion for Hogwarts. Because the three tasks are so dangerous, the tournament has been restricted to students 17 years of age and older. Fred and George concoct an aging potion, in the hopes of fooling the age line that Dumbledore has drawn around the Goblet. They think that it works at first, but then the Goblet spits their names back out. When their hair turns gray, and they start growing long gray beards, they begin to wrestle one another, each blaming the failure of their scheme on the other.

Everyone at Hogwarts is excited about the upcoming Triwizard tournament. Voldemort arranges to have the cup turned into a portkey, so that Harry is brought to him when he touches it. In the graveyard outside of Voldemort's father's home, Harry's blood is used in a ceremony to bring Voldemort back to his corporeal form. Unable to stop Voldemort's return, Harry does manage to escape, to give warning of the Dark Lord's return.
2. In which movie do Draco and Harry engage in a wizard's duel?

Answer: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002)

After the heir of Slytherin gives notice that the Chamber of Secrets is open, Gilderoy Lockhart, the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, decides that the students should be taught how to duel. After a rather shoddy demonstration by Lockhart and Snape, it is decided to have two students try. Lockhart suggests that Harry and Ron duel, but Snape suggests that Malfoy take Ron's place. They are only supposed to be disarming each other, but they start throwing real spells at each other. It is when Draco produces a snake that everyone finds out that Harry is a parselmouth.

The heir of Slytherin has once again opened the Chamber of Secrets and unleashed the monster kept within. Harry and Ron must find the Chamber, and rescue Ron's sister, who has been taken there to die. In defeating the monster and destroying the diary, Harry once again thwarts Voldemort's plan to regain his human form.
3. Ron and Harry fight a troll to prevent it from hurting, or even killing Hermione. Which movie does this happen in?

Answer: Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001)

When Harry and Ron realize that Hermione, who is crying in the girl's bathroom, doesn't know about the troll that has entered the castle, they run to tell her. Of course they arrive just in time to see the troll enter the same bathroom, and must stop the troll from killing her, or them for that matter. This single event binds the three in friendship, that looks like it's going to last forever.

Upon turning eleven, Harry receives his invitation to attend Hogwarts school for wizards and witches. During his first year there, he and his friends find themselves faced with the task of preventing the evil Lord Voldemort from obtaining the Philosopher's Stone, and using its power to regain his human form.
4. In which movie do Draco and Harry, as the Seekers for their respective houses, fight over the snitch?

Answer: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002)

Draco becomes the seeker for the Slytherin Quidditch team in his second year at Hogwarts, because his father bought new brooms for the entire team. Harry is made seeker for the Gryffindor team in his first year at Hogwarts, because of his flying ability. During the first game that they play against each other, Harry and Draco end up in a race to get the snitch, which involves a great deal of pushing and shoving. Harry wins the contest because Draco becomes nervous and pulls his broom out of the dive towards the ground. Harry persists in his pursuit, and catches the snitch, despite the fact that his one arm has been broken by the rogue bludger.
5. In which movie do Ron and Hermione have a recurring fight over Hermione's cat's treatment of Ron's rat?

Answer: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004)

Being a cat, Crookshanks is naturally interested in Ron's rat, Scabbers, which causes much tension between Hermione and Ron. When Scabbers goes missing, Ron assumes that Crookshanks ate him. However Scabbers is not dead, and is not really a rat. He is the animagus, Peter Pettigrew, the wizard supposedly killed by Sirius Black, and the person who really betrayed Harry's parents to Voldemort.

Sirius Black has escaped from Azkaban, and appears to be headed for Hogwarts. Imprisoned for the murder of Peter Pettigrew and several muggles, everyone assumes that Black is trying to kill Harry, whose parents he was supposed to have betrayed. However all is not what it seems.
6. In which movie must Harry fight off the dementors?

Answer: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004)

The dementors force Harry to relive the murder of his mother, which has a profound effect on him. Because of his experiences with them, he has Professor Lupin teach him how protect himself from them. This training comes to good use when the dementors are trying to suck the soul out of both Harry and Sirius, although it is not enough. Fortunately Harry comes to his own rescue (through the use of the time turner) and from across the lake conjures the patronus that stops the dementors.
7. In what movie must Harry and Ron fight for their lives against the descendants of Aragog?

Answer: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002)

Harry and Ron are in Hagrid's home when he is arrested for the opening of the Chamber of Secrets. He is suspected because he was framed for opening it the first time. They follow the spiders (on Hagrid's advice) deep into the forest, where they meet Aragog. Aragog informs them of Hagrid's innocence, but when it comes time for them to leave, Aragog tells them that he will not prevent his descendants from eating Harry and Ron.

Their escape is made possible through the intervention of the Weasleys' car, which has become feral, living in the forest.
8. In which movie are we first introduced to dueling chess pieces, in the game of Wizard's Chess?

Answer: Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001)

We first see Harry and Ron playing Wizard's Chess at the beginning of Christmas break, as Hermione is getting ready to go home. The game later becomes important as one of the things protecting the Philosopher's Stone. Ron mounts a knight, while Harry and Hermione become pieces on the board. They must win the game in order to cross to the room where the stone is being held.
9. Which movie finds our heroes in front of the Shrieking Shack, where Harry, under concealment of his father's invisibility cloak, pelts Malfoy with snowballs, and even drags him around a bit?

Answer: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004)

Because he lacks his uncle's signature on the permission form, Harry is not allowed to visit Hogsmeade. Through Fred and George's generous gift of the Marauder's Map, he is able to sneak through one of the secret passageways. Wearing his invisibility cloak he manages to frighten Malfoy and his cronies, who are up to their usual trick of harassing Ron and Hermione.
10. Harry and Hermione have quite an interesting time of it when they take on the Whomping Willow, in order to rescue Ron from Sirius. Which movie is this scene in?

Answer: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004)

Sirius grabs Ron by the leg, and pulls him through the secret tunnel at the base of the Whomping Willow. In order to follow them and rescue Ron, Harry and Hermione must dodge the flailing branches of the tree and get down into the tunnel. While being whipped around by one of the branches, Hermione grabs Harry and tosses him into the opening of the tunnel.

She then jumps in herself and they follow the tunnel all the way to the Shrieking Shack in Hogsmeade.
11. Someone manages to trick a very sophisticated magical object, causing it to spit out Harry's name as a school champion. Ron, along with most of the school, refuses to believe that Harry did not do this himself, and a huge fight results. In which film does this misunderstanding occur?

Answer: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)

When the Goblet of Fire spits out Harry's name, he becomes the fourth champion in the Triwizard tournament, when there should only be three. Harry is baffled and Ron is furious that Harry did not share his plans with Ron. The fight is patched up after the first task, when Harry has to fight the dragon and Ron realizes that Harry is telling the truth. Harry's name is entered by one of Voldemort's Death Eaters, so that Harry will reach the portkey which takes him to where Voldemort awaits.
12. In which film do Harry and Ron engage in a battle of wits and wands with Professor Lockhart?

Answer: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002)

Ginny Weasley has been taken to the Chamber of Secrets. Believing that Lockhart is going to attempt to rescue her, Ron and Harry go to him, to share what information they have about the Chamber. Instead they find Lockhart packing to leave. When they confront him, he admits that he has not in fact defeated as many monsters as he claims.

His true skill lies in taking credit for other people's successes, while eradicating their memories in the process. Ron and Harry stop him from doing the same to them by disarming him.

When Lockhart eventually does get to cast the spell on them, he does so with Ron's broken wand, which backfires on him.
13. In what movie does Harry's broomstick lose a fight with the Whomping Willow?

Answer: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004)

Gryffindor must play a Quidditch match in very bad weather conditions, with extremely high winds. Drawn by the crowd of spectators, the dementors stationed outside the school descend on the match, causing Harry to pass out and fall from his broom. When he wakes up in the hospital unit, Ron tells him that his broom was blown into the Whomping Willow, and did not survive the experience. Ron presents him with the pile of sticks and twigs, which is all that could be recovered.
14. A basilisk is a giant snake-like creature whose bite is poisonous and whose gaze can kill instantly. In which movie does Harry battle this monster?

Answer: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002)

The basilisk has been released from the Chamber of Secrets, but has not yet killed anyone, although many have been paralyzed. To rescue Ginny from the Chamber, where Tom Riddle (who grew up to become Lord Voldemort) is using her life force to regain his, Harry must first do battle with the basilisk. Fawkes, Dumbledore's phoenix, blinds the snake, nullifying its deadly gaze, and Harry kills it with Godric Gryffindor's sword.

Then Harry uses the fang of the basilisk (which he pulls out of his arm) to destroy the diary and the reanimating Riddle. Fawke's tears then heal Harry's wound, including the cleansing of the poison.
15. In which movie does Harry finally have a real fight with Voldemort?

Answer: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)

After Harry and Cedric touch the Triwizard Cup, they are taken to the graveyard outside of the old Riddle mansion. Wormtail appears, carrying the not quite human form of Voldemort, and performs a ritual, using Harry's blood, that enables Voldemort to regain his body.

After his Death Eaters have been summoned, Voldemort announces his intentions to finally kill Harry and forces him to engage in a duel. When their wands connect, the spirits of those recently killed by Voldemort's wand emerge to help Harry escape, taking Cedric's body back to Hogwarts with him.
