Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Used to defeat a Boggart

Answer: Riddikulus

This spell was first shown in "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" when Prof. Lupin was teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts.

The spell was cast by several students and Lupin in class. It turns a Boggart, which manifests as something scary to the person it is in front of, into something silly or "ridiculous", hence the name.
2. Knocks back an opposing fighter

Answer: Everte Statum

This spell was also used in the dueling scene in "Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets". It was not featured in the book at all. The spell, similar to Rictusempra stuns an opponent, but this one both knocks them backward and causing sharp pain. How severe the pain is, depends on how powerful the wizard.
3. Summons a snake

Answer: Serpensortia

This spell was shown only once throughout the first eight films in the franchise. It was used by Draco, while fighting Harry to summon a snake. When Draco uses it, the snake appears from the end of his wand. Harry, instead of being scared, speaks in parseltongue. The scene was in "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets".
4. Slows or stops movement

Answer: Arresto Momentum

The spell has appeared in "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban", "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix", "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" and "Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald".

It also appeared in several of the books, and video games.

Sometimes the spell is simply used to slow the momentum of a moving object, other times it is used to completely stop the movement of an object.
5. Darkens a wand that is lit up

Answer: Nox

Lumos is used to put a light on the end of a magic wand. Nox is used to extinguish said light. The first time it was used in one of the "Harry Potter" movies was in "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban". It appeared in several of the movies.
6. Binds a person or object in place

Answer: Petrificus Totalus

It has no effect on a person's ability to hear, or see. When used it causes the back to go straight, arms to snap to one's side and legs to straighten up. The first time it was seen in a movie was in "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's/Sorcerer's Stone". It appeared in five of the remaining seven movies, and again in "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them".
7. Turns things into a fish.

Answer: Piscifors

The spell was finally talked about during "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" when its effects were explained by Horace Slughorn. Slughorn was describing what Lilly Potter had down to a leaf, turning it into a small fish while in the pond.

In the movies, that's the only time the spell was ever mentioned on screen. It also appeared in the "Goblet of Fire" video game, but never in the books.
8. Fixes broken objects

Answer: Reparo

While it was used in many of the books, the spell only appeared in "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" in the original eight movies.

It got its fair share of screen time though when Newt used it repeatedly to fix things broken by Jacob in "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them".
9. Part of a series of spells, for protection

Answer: Repello Inimicum

When used in conjunction with Protego Maxima and Fianto Duri, they create a barrier to keep nearly anything from getting close to something. This was used in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" when several teachers of members of the Order of the Phoenix were setting up protections prior to the battle of Hogwarts.
10. Amplifies sounds

Answer: Sonorus

This spell, which can be used on people or objects, is used frequently in the movies.
It first appeared in "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's/Sorcerer's Stone" when Dumbledore used it on himself.

It also appeared in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" (used by Minister for Magic Cornelius Fudge) and "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" (used by Lord Voldemort).
