Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which regular character from the "Bond" film series did not appear in "For Your Eyes Only"?

Answer: M

Bernard Lee, who had played M in every "Bond" film, died of cancer before he could film his scenes. Out of respect, the producers decided not to re-cast the role. Moneypenny explained that M was on leave and that the Chief of Staff, Bill Tanner, was in charge.
2. What was the name of the spy-ship with the ATAC system that was sunk by a mine?

Answer: St. Georges

The ATAC (Automatic Targeting Attack Communicator) system was used to send commands to the British nuclear submarines to launch missiles. During the sinking, the operator was unable to push the self-destruct button and the possibility of the survival of the ATAC led to a race between the British and the Russians to retrieve it.
3. After Bond's Lotus Esprit self-destructed, when Gonzales' guards attempted to break in, Bond and Melina were forced to escape in her car. What make was it?

Answer: Citroen

It was a yellow Citroen 2CV. Despite lacking all the gadgetry of Bond's Lotus, the Citroen proved to be a quick, nimble and strong car. Bond and Melina were able to use it to escape, despite tipping it on its side, rolling it over and over down a hill and driving down steep slopes.
4. Sheena Easton performed the title song "For Your Eyes Only". What was she the first title song artist to do?

Answer: Appear in the opening credits

The credit sequence of "For Your Eyes Only" was the first time the vocalist of the title song appeared in the title sequence.
Madonna had a cameo role as Verity, a fencing tutor in "Die Another Day". Shirley Bassey sang the title songs for "Goldfinger", "Diamonds are Forever" and "Moonraker".
5. Who wrote the instrumental score of the film?

Answer: Bill Conti

As well as writing the instrumental score, Bill Conti also wrote the title song "For Your Eyes Only". He has also written the score for many other well known films including the "Rocky" films, "The Right Stuff" and the 2006 Oscars.
6. Who directed "For Your Eyes Only"?

Answer: John Glen

John Glen directed five Bond films from "For Your Eyes Only" up to and including "Licence To Kill". He was also the second unit director and editor of "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" and "Moonraker" as well as editor of "The Spy Who Loved Me". Martin Campbell directed "Goldeneye" and the 2006 version of "Casino Royale". Terence Young directed "Dr. No", "Thunderball" and "From Russia With Love". Guy Hamilton directed "Goldfinger", "Diamonds are Forever", "Live and Let Die" and "The Man with the Golden Gun".
7. What kind of nuts did Max, Melina's parrot, like?

Answer: Pistachio

After she gave gifts to her parents, Melina took a bag of pistachio nuts in to Max, her parrot. As she got to the door, Hector Gonzales who had just flown her there, flew at her parents' yacht and gunned down her parents. Melina's father, Sir Timothy Havelock, was an archaeologist who was working discreetly for MI5 to locate the wreck of the St Georges.
8. Which Bond villain was killed at the end of the pre-title sequence?

Answer: Blofeld

Although never named, the bald head and neck brace, from the injury sustained in "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" gave it away. Bond visited the grave of his late wife Teresa before being picked up by a helicopter, supposedly from Universal Exports, a company name used by MI5.

It turned out it was actually from Blofeld, who killed the pilot before flying the helicopter by remote control, with the aim of killing Bond. However Bond disabled the transmitter and managed to pick up Blofeld in his wheelchair and tip him down a very tall chimney.
9. Which British Prime Minister was portrayed at the end of the film?

Answer: Margaret Thatcher

The Prime Minister was patched through to a transmitter in Bond's watch by Q, via a secure satellite link. She thanked Bond for his efforts but Bond had left his watch next to Melina's parrot which said "Give us a kiss". The Chief of Staff explained to the Prime Minister that it was a technical problem whilst the Minister of Defence chastised Q. Meanwhile, out of sight, Melina and Bond got (how shall I put it) romantically involved.

Janet Brown, a well-known impressionist played Margaret Thatcher with John Wells playing Denis Thatcher.
10. What was the name of the two-person submarine Bond and Melina used to dive to the wreck?

Answer: Neptune

Melina mentioned the name of the submarine when she and Bond worked out the rough location of the wreck, based on the discoveries made by her father. To dive to the wreck, the air supply on Neptune needed to be a mix of oxygen and helium. When they got to the wreck they managed to retrieve the ATAC but Kristatos knew they were there and sent down a submarine of his own. Bond fought with one of Kristatos' men and managed to kill him using explosive timer from the ATAC device.

After a submarine fight, which saw the Neptune disabled, Bond and Melina managed to reach the Havelock's yacht but walked straight into the hands of Kristatos.
