Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who is speaking and where are they? Person 1: "Harry Potter? Who is Harry Potter?" Person 2: "No one. Bit of a tosser really." Person 1: "Funny that paper of yours, a couple of minutes ago I could have sworn I saw a picture move."

Answer: A waitress and Harry Potter, in a subway cafe

As a way to release tension during the summer, Harry Potter has been spending time at the subway station in Little Whinging. He visits an underground subway cafe and is reading "The Daily Prophet" newspaper, when a waitress approaches him. She glances at one of the newspaper headlines and strikes up a conversation with Harry.

The headline reads, "HARRY POTTER: THE CHOSEN ONE?". Harry pretends not to know who 'Harry Potter' is, calling himself a 'tosser'. Tosser is a slang term used in the United Kingdom for a ridiculous, irritating, ignorant or otherwise useless person. Because the waitress is a muggle (a non-magical being), Harry is trying to conceal the truth of who he is by protecting the contents of "The Daily Prophet" from her.
2. Which characters are speaking and what is their location? Person 1: "I fear I may have stolen a wondrous night from you... She was truthfully very pretty, the girl." Person 2: "It's alright, Sir. I will go back tomorrow and make some excuse." Person 1: "Oh, you will not be returning to Little Whinging..."

Answer: Albus Dumbledore and Harry Potter, in Budleigh Babberton

Harry makes a date to meet a subway waitress after her shift ends in Little Whinging. However, Dumbledore shows up and takes Harry to Budleigh Babberton instead. Budleigh Babberton is the place where Professor Slughorn is hiding in a muggle home, while the family is away on vacation. Dumbledore is trying to procure a memory from Professor Slughorn and he uses Harry as bait to entice Slughorn to return to Hogwarts as potions teacher.

This conversation takes place as Harry and Dumbledore are leaving Budleigh Babberton, after sucessfully convincing Slughorn to return to Hogwarts. Harry is hoping to go back to Little Whinging to smooth things over with the waitress.

However, Dumbledore informs Harry that he will not be returning to Little Whinging, dashing any hopes Harry has of getting together with the waitress any time soon.
3. Who is talking and where is the conversation taking place? Person 1: "There's been a lot of talk recently that Dumbledore's got a bit old." Person 2: "Rubbish! He's only... what is he?" Person 3: "150? Give or take a few years."

Answer: Hermione, Harry and Ron, in Ron's bedroom at the Burrow

The Burrow is one of Harry Potter's favorite places to spend time. He is free to be himself there and enjoys being with the Weasley family, especially with his best friend Ron. After arriving at the Burrow from Budleigh Babberton, Harry, Ron and Hermione go to Ron's bedroom for a bit of privacy. Ron and Hermione are telling Harry about the things that happened during the summer. Ron informs Harry that earlier his mother was in a panic about allowing him and Ginny to return to Hogwarts.

However, his father calmed his mother's nerves.

Hermione also tells Harry that her muggle (non-magical) parents have also been uneasy, especially concerning Dumbledore. Harry is surprised to hear that people are beginning to question Dumbledore's abilities. They discuss Dumbledore's age and conclude that Dumbledore must be at least 150 years old.

This is one of many references to Dumbledore's age throughout the movie, which serve to foreshadow Dumbledore's death.
4. Who is speaking and where are they? Person 1: "Cissy! You can't do this. He can't be trusted." Person 2: "The Dark Lord trusts him." Person 1: "The Dark Lord's mistaken."

Answer: Bellatrix Lestrange and Narcissa Malfoy, in an alley near Snape's house

As they make their way through an alley, Bellatrix Lestrange is talking to Narcissa Malfoy, trying to convince her to turn back. The two sisters are heading to Severus Snape's house because Narcissa would like Snape's help protecting her son, Draco. Narcissa believes that privately visiting Snape in Spinner's End is a direct and discreet way for her to get Snape to help with Draco.

However, Bellatrix is suspicious of Snape's loyalty to the Dark Lord and feels that Narcissa should not seek Snape's help, especially since the Dark Lord told Narcissa not to talk to anyone about Draco.

The irony is that Bellatrix wants Narcissa to "obey" the Dark Lord and not seek any assistance for Draco, yet Bellatrix herself claims that Voldemort is "mistaken" for putting his trust in Snape.
5. Which two characters are talking and what is the setting? Person 1: "And will you to the best of your ability protect him from harm?" Person 2: "I will." Person 1: "And if Draco should fail, will you yourself carry out the deed the Dark Lord has ordered Draco to perform?"

Answer: Bellatrix Lestrange and Severus Snape, in Snape's parlor

Since Snape is seemingly a double-agent, working both for Dumbledore and Voldemort, his seedy home in Spinner's End is at times visited by those aligned with the Dark Forces. Not only is Wormtail at Snape's house, but Bellatrix Lestrange and Narcissa Malfoy also pay Snape a visit.

While there, Bellatrix challenges Snape to make the Unbreakable Vow. The Unbreakable Vow binds a witch or wizard to fulfill an obligation or suffer death. During this conversation, Snape promises to "watch over" Draco, "protect" him and to "carry out Draco's deed" should he fail. Snape is quite tense about taking the vow, but he does so anyway.

This is important because Draco was given the task of killing Dumbledore. Ultimately, Snape is the one who ends Dumbledore's life.
6. Which two wizarding world characters are having a conversation and what is the setting? Person 1: "Don't worry. He'll be here any minute." Person 2: "Will... you... stop... eating? Your best friend is missing." Person 1: "Oy... turn around you lunatic."

Answer: Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, in the Great Hall

The Great Hall is one of the main rooms at Hogwarts. Not only are First Year students often sorted into their houses in the Great Hall, but it is also the room where Hogwarts students spend time studying and eating. This conversation takes place in the Great Hall shortly after Ron and Hermione arrive at Hogwarts.

While Ron is eating, Hermione is worrying about Harry. As a result of Draco Malfoy using the Petrificus Totalus spell on him, Harry is stuck on the train until Luna Lovegood rescues him. Luna manages to find Harry using a special pair of glasses that allows her to see the Wrackspurts (invisible creatures) that surround him. Harry and Luna then walk to Hogwarts together, arriving late.

After they enter the Great Hall, Ginny notes that once again Harry is "covered in blood".

Hermione immediately interrogates Harry, but he tells her he will explain everything later. Harry decides to catch up on what he has missed instead.
7. Which two friends are talking and where are they? Person 1: "So, what is it he sees in her?" Person 2: "I don't know. She's smart, funny, attractive..." Person 1: "Attractive?"

Answer: Ronald Weasley and Harry Potter, in their dormitory at Hogwarts

Harry and Ron often talk in bed before going to sleep in their dormitory at Hogwarts. This conversation happens just as the two settle down for the night. Ron is curious as to why Dean likes his sister, Ginny. Without thought, Harry begins listing several of Ginny's more appealing attributes. Harry ends by saying that Ginny has nice skin.

After a moment's silence, Ron asks Harry if he thinks Hermione has nice skin. Harry cannot answer as readily and tells Ron that he never really thought about Hermione in that way. Harry becomes quite uncomfortable with the conversation and decides they should go to sleep.

This brief discussion between Ron and Harry confirms both Harry's budding feelings for Ginny and Ron's budding feelings for Hermione.
8. Which two non-muggles are engaged in the following dialogue and where does the conversation take place? Person 1: "See that girl over there. That's Romilda Vane. Apparently she's trying to smuggle you a love potion." Person 2: "Really?" Person 1: "Hey! She's only interested in you because she thinks you're the Chosen One."

Answer: Hermione and Harry, in the library at Hogwarts

Hermione Granger spends a lot of time in the Hogwarts library doing research or working. This conversation takes place when Harry visits Hermione in the Hogwarts library, as she is reshelving books. They discuss their prospective dates for Slughorn's party. Harry suggests that he and Hermione go to the dance together, since he cannot take Ginny and she isn't going with Ron.

Hermione informs Harry that she already has a date to Slughorn's party. Romilda Vane is in the library, staring at Harry and smiling.

In order to convince Harry to take someone special, Hermione warns him to steer clear of girls like Romilda Vane, who only want him because he is the "Chosen One". When Harry says that he is the "Chosen One", Hermione playfully taps him with a coiled book.

As a result of his conversation with Hermione, Harry decides to take Luna Lovegood to Slughorn's party instead. Ironically, Hermione's warning to Harry in the library foreshadows Romilda's later attempt to use a love potion to make Harry fall in love with her.
9. Which characters are conversing and what is the setting? Person 1: "Maybe I did hex that Bell girl. Maybe I didn't. What's it to you?" Person 2: "I swore to protect you. I made the Unbreakable Vow." Person 1: "I don't need protection. I was chosen for this. Out of all others, ME! I won't fail Him."

Answer: Draco Malfoy and Severus Snape, in a Hogwarts corridor

After Filch catches Draco roaming the halls, he brings him into the Slugclub party. Draco claims he was there to "gatecrash". Infuriated, Professor Snape takes responsibility for Draco, leading him out of the room. As they walk down the corridor, Snape warns Draco against being so careless, informing him that he took the Unbreakable Vow to protect him. Draco feels that since Voldemort personally chose him, he doesn't need or want Snape's help.

This conversation in the corridor is crucial because Harry is secretly listening.

As a result, Harry not only learns that Snape is willing to help Draco with whatever plans he was chosen to carry out, but he also learns that Snape has taken an Unbreakable Vow to protect Draco. As the Hogwarts Express leaves Hogwarts for Christmas break, Harry tells Ron and Hermione about what he overheard.
10. Which two people are having a conversation and what is the magical setting? Person 1: "It comes down to whether or not you trust Dumbledore's judgment. Dumbledore trusts Snape, therefore I do." Person 2: "Dumbledore can make a mistake. He said so himself." Person 1: "You're blinded by hatred."

Answer: Remus Lupin and Harry, in the parlor at the Burrow

The Burrow is often a meeting place for the various members of the Order of the Phoenix. During Christmas break, Harry Potter, Remus Lupin, Nymphadora Tonks and Arthur Weasley are in the parlor at the Burrow. Harry and Lupin are having a heated discussion. Harry reveals that he heard Snape say he took the Unbreakable Vow to protect Draco and insists that Snape cannot be trusted. Lupin is warning Harry that he is allowing hatred to cloud his judgment and that perhaps there is more to the story than he knows. Oddly enough, this is one of the final gatherings at the original Burrow home before it is set ablaze during an attack by Bellatrix Lestrange and Fenrir Greyback.
11. Which "Harry Potter" characters are speaking and where are they? Person 1: "It's beautiful isn't it? The moon?" Person 2: "Divine. Had ourselves a little late night snack, did we?" Person 1: "It was on your bed, the box. I just thought I'd try one."

Answer: Ronald Weasley and Harry Potter, in Gryffindor Dormitory

After a failed attempt to get Professor Slughorn to share a memory of a conversation he had with Tom Riddle, Harry Potter returns to his dormitory in Gryffindor Tower. When he enters the room, Harry finds Ron acting strange. Apparently, Ron ate chocolates from a box of candy he found on Harry's bed.

After reading the note attached to the box, Harry realizes that Romilda Vane must have laced the chocolates with a love potion intended for him. She somehow managed to have the box delivered to their dormitory. Since Ron is bewitched by the chocolates he ate, he is foolishly pining for Romilda Vane. Harry decides to use Ron's spellbound state to make another attempt at getting information from Slughorn. Harry takes Ron to Professor Slughorn's office to be cured.

However, things don't go as planned and Ron ends up in the hospital, with Harry, once again, failing to get Slughorn to part with the memory.
12. After Aragog dies, which characters are talking, and where are they having their discussion? Person 1: "I once had a fish... Francis. He was very dear to me. One afternoon, I came downstairs and he'd vanished. Poof!" Person 2: "Well, that's very odd isn't it?" Person 1: "Wasn't it, but that's life! I suppose. You go along and then suddenly... Poof!"

Answer: Professor Slughorn and Rubeus Hagrid, in Hagrid's hut

Hagrid's hut is located at the edges of the Forbidden Forrest and is generally off-limits to Hogwarts students. However, Harry often sneaks out undetected and visits Hagrid. Shortly after holding a memorial service for Aragog, Harry and Professor Slughorn escort a mourning Hagrid back to his place. Harry is sitting and smiling in a potioned stupor, because he drank the vile of Felix Felicis he won in Slughorn's potions class. Slughorn and Hagrid are drinking and singing, before they engage in a conversation about death and loss. Hagrid talks about Aragog and Slughorn talks about a pet fish he once had, named Francis.

After Hagrid passes out, Slughorn reveals to Harry that his mother (Lily Potter) gave Francis to him as gift. While in Hagrid's hut, Harry uses this information to convince Slughorn to give him the memory of the conversation he had with Tom Riddle.
13. Which characters are speaking and what is their location? Person 1: "A horcrux is an object in which a person has concealed a part of their soul." Person 2: "But I don't understand how that works." Person 1: "One splits one's soul and hides part of it an object. By doing so you are protected should you be attacked and your body destroyed."

Answer: Professor Slughorn and Tom Riddle, in Slughorn's office (pensieve memory)

This conversation between Tom Riddle and Professor Slughorn is shared through a memory in the pensieve. Throughout the movie, Dumbledore has been sharing memories of events from Tom Riddle's life with Harry, to give Harry insight into Voldemort's past and how he thinks. Dumbledore told Harry that retrieving Slughorn's altered was crucial to the future of the wizarding world. Once Harry brings Dumbledore the unaltered memory, it discloses that Slughorn is the one who provided the young Tom Riddle with the information needed to create seven horcruxes.

The conversation also reveals that Tom already had some knowledge of how to create the horcruxes, but merely needed confirmation from a reliable source.
14. The following dialogue is between which "Harry Potter" characters and where are they? Person 1: "Has it ever crossed your brilliant mind that I don't want to do this any more?" Person 2: "Whether it has or hasn't is irrelevant... You agreed. We've nothing more to discuss."

Answer: Severus Snape and Albus Dumbledore, at the top of the Astronomy Tower

Dumbledore has several heartfelt conversations with various characters at the top of the Astronomy Tower, including this conversation with Severus Snape. While it is a short conversation, it is memorable as it shows that Dumbledore has a hold over Snape.

It also shows that Snape is loyal to Dumbledore. We never really find out exactly what Dumbledore asked Snape to do in the movie. However, Dumbledore's final words, "Severus, Please?", are spoken to Snape just before his body hurls over the edge of the Astronomy Tower.
15. What two movie characters are speaking and where is the conversation taking place? Person 1: "You are not alone. There are others? How?" Person 2: "The Vanishing Cabinet in the Room of Requirement. I've been mending it." Person 1: "Let me guess. It has a sister. A twin..."

Answer: Albus Dumbledore and Draco Malfoy, at the top of the Astronomy Tower

After Harry and Dumbledore return from retrieving the Slytherin locket horcrux, Dumbledore is greatly weakened as a result of the trip. As a result, Draco is able to use the Expelliarmus spell to easily disarm Dumbledore. This conversation is between Albus Dumbledore and Draco Malfoy, towards the end of the movie. Draco reveals to Dumbledore that he spent time repairing the Vanishing Cabinet in the Room of Requirement and that there are two cabinets instead of one. With great effort, Dumbledore is trying to convince Draco that he does not have to kill him. Before Draco can carry out his task, Severus Snape takes over. With Dumbledore pleading (be it for life or death), Severus uses the Avada Kedavra curse, thus killing the great Albus Dumbledore.
