"The Witches of Eastwick" (1987) was George Miller's first major feature in Hollywood. Strangely, Bill Murray was the studio's first choice for the role but after re-visiting Jack Nicholson's stellar performance in "The Shining" the studio soon changed their minds on the man to play the ultimate bad guy. Nicholson's co-stars in this film were Cher, Susan Sarandon and Michelle Pfeiffer who played three women from Rhode Island with latent powers they did not know they possessed. Jack manages to seduce the ladies and, in the process draws the witch inside out... much to his dismay in the end.

Vincent Leonard Price Jr. (1911 - 1993) had a distinctive voice ideally matched for the horror movies for which he was somewhat typecast. In "The Story of Mankind" Price plays Mr Scratch, thinly disguised as the Devil, who wants to detonate a "Super-H" bomb to blow up all of mankind.

Answer: The Passion of the Christ

Rosalinda plays a bald, androgynous, albino Devil who appears to Jesus in Gethsemane while he's deep in prayer. She endeavours to talk him out of dying for humanity's sake and when he ignores her she turns his sweat to blood and takes on the guise of a snake. "The Passion of the Christ", which details the final twelve hours in the life of Jesus Christ, became, at the time, the highest grossing R-rated and foreign language (Latin and reconstructed Aramaic) film in the history of US cinema, grossing in excess of $370 million.

Answer: Needful Things

There cannot be many actors who have played Jesus ("The Greatest Story Ever Told" - 1965), the Devil ("Needful Things" - 1983) and an exorcist ("The Exorcist" - 1974) but Swedish actor Max von Sydow (born Carl Adolf von Sydow, 1929) has certainly shown his acting chops by playing all three.

In this film adaptation of Stephen King's 1980 novel of the same name, Leland Gaunt moves to Castle Rock, Maine opens an antiques store and plays havoc with the townsfolk in a supernatural way. When his store is blown up he leaves the town as mysteriously as he came presumably to cause havoc in another town.

Answer: Parker

This film pushed bad taste to the limit, so much so that it pushed its R-rating toward its boundaries. Whilst it tackles the subjects of censorship and bad parenting it also takes a healthy dig at Disney films and musicals such as "Les Miserables".

The movie centres on the US going to war with Canada over a vulgar cartoon and culminates with Satan (played by Trey Parker), his minions and Saddam Hussein (Satan's abusive lover) launching an attack on the Earth.

Answer: Bedazzled

Elizabeth Jane "Liz" Hurley (born 1965) is better known as a model and the ex-partner of Hugh Grant than as an actress. Her best known movie role is arguably "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery" (1997) opposite Mike Myers. In "Bedazzled", Hurley's Devil plays out the Faust role handing out wishes to Brendan Fraser's hapless Elliot but always throws in a little something into the deal that Elliot doesn't want.

The movie received mixed reviews but was a box office success.

Answer: Rains

Claude Rains (1889-1967) an English theatre and method actor whose most notable roles were in: "The Adventures of Robin Hood" (1938); "Mr Smith Goes to Washington" (1939); "Casablanca" (1942), "Notorious" (1946), and "Lawrence of Arabia" (1962).

In "Angel On My Shoulder", Mr Rains upstaged his co-star and stole the show, if that is possible with Anne Baxter in the cast. The movie was remade in 1980, but Richard Kiley's portrayal of Nick was not a patch on Mr Rains' performance in this humble movie-goer's opinion.

Answer: De Niro

Robert De Niro is Louis Cyphre (read as Lucifer) who hires Harry Angel (Mickey Rourke) to track down a missing singer called Johnny Favourite. Trouble is that everyone Harry questions about Mr Cyphre ends up meeting a gruesome death. Eventually Harry finds out who Mr Cyphre really is.

The film was not a commercial success but has since gained a cult following. De Niro, who claimed that he was only impersonating his "Raging Bull" (1980) director, Martin Scorsese, would find his performance as Lucifer voted as one of the "Ten Best Depictions of the Devil" by Tim Butters of "Screen Rant" magazine.

Answer: Burns

George Burns (born Nathan Birnbaum 1896 - 1996) was an American comedian, singer and actor best known (with a trademark cigar) for playing opposite his wife, Gracie Allen, as the duo Burns and Allen on radio, television, and film.

In 1976 his career had a renaissance, when he won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in "The Sunshine Boys" (1975). He went on to play God in "Oh, God!" (1977), the sequel, "Oh, God! Book II" (1980) and then had the dual roles of God and the Devil in "Oh, God! You Devil" (1984). In the latter movie he's Devil disguised as a musical agent who tries to bribe a young rock star with fame and fortune. The wannabe rockstar, played by Ron Wass, takes the deal only to find out he has sold his soul.

Answer: Pacino

Al Pacino turned down this role on five occasions because he held reservations about the script and feared that it would become a blockbuster that was overladen with special effects. After several re-writes he was happy to sign on the dotted line. Pacino plays John Milton (named after that man who wrote "Paradise Lost"), the head of a New York legal firm and Keanu is his aspiring young lawyer.

It doesn't take Keanu long to figure out that there's more to John Milton than meets the eye and that Milton's ultimate goal goes a lot further than winning cases without scruples. Keanu, who had more luck against the Devil in "Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey" (1991), meets his match in this outing.
