She checks in, but she doesn't check out.

This was Leigh's only Hitchcock film, but it may be his most famous. Janet Leigh passed away in 2004. The actress Jamie Lee Curtis is her daughter.

He runs into Eve Kendall (played by Eva) on a train as he is attempting to escape the real spies who are after him. She helps him to hide; but we find out that she is romantically involved with the ringleader of the spies. Maybe the meeting on the train wasn't an accident. Is she really trying to help him escape, or is she using him for information? The ending is an unforgettable scene atop Mount Rushmore.

The movie is "Rear Window." It has the look of a stage play, unlike an action-packed thriller like "North by Northwest". In the movie, Grace plays the part of a fashion model (no acting required for that) who is Jimmy Stewart's girlfriend. He thinks he has witnessed a murder across the courtyard from his apartment. At first, she thinks he has only imagined it; but she gradually comes to believe him and even to realize that he is in danger.

Grace Kelly was in a total of three Hitchcock films. The director was supposedly in love with her, and who can blame him? She won an Academy Award for her performance in "The Country Girl", which was not a Hitchcock film.

This movie, "Vertigo", is wonderful for atmosphere, but the plot is a little convoluted. It also stars Barbara Bel Geddes, long before she became Miss Ellie on "Dallas". In the movie, Kim Novak plays two roles. First, as an elegant and apparently mentally ill woman who (we think) commits suicide - then, as an ordinary shop girl with whom Jimmy Stewart falls in love. Her guilt compels her to confess that she has been an impostor, hired to deceive him to cover up a murder.

Kim Novak and Jimmy Stewart also acted together again in "Bell, Book and Candle".

The film is "Marnie". Sean Connery (around the time he became James Bond) plays opposite her. Tippi portrays Marnie Edgar, a woman who has had a very traumatic childhood. As an adult, she is phobic about the color red and thunderstorms, and is fearful of men. Her repressed memories are also manifested in a compulsion to steal. She and Connery's character marry, but he learns that she is frigid. We see her gradually come to understand and overcome the demons inside her.

This is the second of two films Hedren made with Hitchcock. She is the mother of actress Melanie Griffith.

This gripping thriller is "Notorious". Ingrid Bergman's character is Alicia Huberman, the American daughter of a former Nazi. Several of her father's friends, including a man named Sebastian (played by Claude Rains), have escaped to Brazil. The CIA is interested in keeping tabs on the group's activities, so they send agent T.R. Devlin (Cary Grant) to meet with Alicia to discuss a plan for infiltrating the group.

The plan calls for Alicia to marry Sebastian. She falls in love with Devlin, but agrees to the plan when she realizes that he doesn't love her.

When Sebastian discovers Alicia's identity and purpose, he tries to poison her. She narrowly escapes with her life, and she and Devlin end up together.

The movie is "Spellbound". Ingrid is Dr. Constance Petersen, a psychoanalyst at a mental hospital. Dr. Anthony Edwardes, played by Gregory Peck, has been hired as the hospital's new administrator. Dr. Petersen soon discovers that Dr. Edwardes is not the man who was hired for the job. Could Dr. Edwardes have murdered the real administrator and taken his place? It looks that way, but by this time Dr. Petersen has fallen in love with Dr. Edwardes, and she refuses to believe that he could be a killer. She makes it her mission to prove his innocence, which she does.

Ingrid Bergman made three films with Hitchcock. She was a highly honored actress, winning three Academy Awards, two Emmys, and one Tony for her work. She was the mother of actress and model Isabella Rossellini.

Grace Kelly is Francie Stevens, a wealthy young lady who is vacationing with her mother in Monaco, where John Robie used to ply his trade. This time he is innocent, and Francie, who has fallen in love with him, is able to help him prove his innocence and catch the real thief.

Grace Kelly made three films with Hitchcock. She grew up in a prosperous section of Philadelphia, and really lived the fairytale life many girls only dream about. After a relatively short movie career, she married Prince Rainier III of Monaco in 1956. She was killed in a car crash at age 52.

"The Birds" is based on a short story by Daphne du Maurier. This was Tippi Hedren's first movie, following a career as a model.

Reportedly, Hitchcock saw her as his next Grace Kelly. She made only one more film with the great director, before deciding that he was too controlling, and bought out her contract. Ironically for someone who is tormented by animals in this film, she has become well-known as an advocate for the preservation of wildlife sanctuaries. She and her daughter, Melanie Griffith, have appeared in several films together.

The movie is "The Man Who Knew Too Much". He really doesn't know anything, but the men pursuing him think he does. Many other movies, such as "Frantic", with Harrison Ford, have imitated "The Man Who Knew Too Much". Day plays Josephine Conway McKenna, Stewart's movie wife. Doris Day's signature song, "Que Sera, Sera" is from this film; it won an Academy Award for Best Song.

Hitchcock actually filmed it twice, the first time in 1934. This was the only film Doris Day made with Hitchcock. She is probably best known for the comedies she made with Rock Hudson.
