Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the 1978 film "Up In Smoke", Cheech Marin's character Pedro is surprised by Tommy Chong when Tommy tells him about the "special ingredient" in the pot they're smoking. What is the "special ingredient?"

Answer: Dog poop

Chong tells Cheech that his Labrador Retriever ate his bag of marijuana. So he followed him around waiting for the dog to "pass" the stash. Cheech is so stoned he doesn't mind, and replies, "I wonder what Great Dane tastes like."
2. In the 1980 hit "9 To 5", three fed-up office workers smoke a joint while fantasizing about getting rid of their sexist boss. Lily Tomlin reveals exactly what type of marijuana they are about to indulge in. What type of pot is it?

Answer: Maui Wowie

Tomlin reluctantly accepts the joint earlier in the film from her son. After smoking it, Tomlin and her two co-workers---played by Jane Fonda and Dolly Parton---get high, then get hungry, while sharing humorous fantasies about dealing with their abusive boss.
3. In 1969's "Easy Rider", Jack Nicholson indulges in a few puffs with his new biker friends, played by Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper, while camping out. What concern does Nicholson's character have at first about smoking pot?

Answer: He's afraid he'll get hooked on it.

Right after they all get out of jail, Nicholson's character rides with the pair of bikers before they make camp and decide to smoke a joint. It's a classic scene that turns tragic fast. I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen the film yet.
4. "Blazing Saddles" brought fans to the theaters in 1974 to view one of Mel Brooks' true masterpieces of comedy. In the film, Gene Wilder's drunken ex-gunslinger character The Waco Kid shares a joint with new sheriff Bart played by Cleavon Little. What peculiar thing happens to the Waco Kid when he takes a puff?

Answer: His voice becomes high-pitched.

Bart rolls the joint, and The Waco Kid takes a drag. "You know, Bart," he says in a high-pitched voice that reminds us of taking helium into our mouths from a balloon. Both Little and Wilder were exceptional in this film.
5. Not all pot-smoking scenes are comical, however. In the 1986 Oliver Stone Vietnam War epic "Platoon", Charlie Sheen's character Chris smokes marijuana in an unusual and dangerous way. How does he smoke it?

Answer: He smokes it from the muzzle of a rifle.

In the scene, Chris has just returned from the military hospital after being wounded. He hangs out with a group of soldiers loyal to Sgt. Elias called "The Heads". Chris is very hesitant to smoke marijuana from the muzzle of a rifle, but he does it anyway.
6. In 1998's crazy hemp classic "Half-Baked", Dave Chappelle and the gang order marijuana from a delivery service. The boys smoke it from a hookah---one of those tall devices with tubes coming out of it---that they have given a funny name. What do the smoking friends call this contraption?

Answer: Billy Bong Thornton

Dave and his gang produce the psychedelic hookah from a nearby closet, after Dave asks Kenny to "get Billy Bob". Then, the eager burnouts stand around the device in reverence...even taking off their shoes!
7. The year was 1980. The film was the popular golf send-up "Caddyshack". In it, assistant greens keeper Carl Spackler (Bill Murray) has a chance meeting with club pro Ty Webb (Chevy Chase). Of course, it leads to a little pot-smoking, during which Carl produces a huge joint. How does Carl describe the plus-sized blunt?

Answer: A Bob Marley joint

Carl pulls out the hefty Houdini and offers it to Ty, calling it the "Bob Marley joint." Then the two take turns puffing on it, and following up with a swig from a large wine bottle...an activity Carl proudly calls "The Cannonball". Hey...you can't golf effectively after that!
8. In 1995's darkly humorous film "Friday", Smokey (Chris Tucker) smokes weed with first-timer Craig (Ice Cube). The session leads to a number of hallucinations experienced by Craig that cause Smokey to get rather irritated. What does Craig, in his pot-induced stupor, think he sees when he opens up the kitchen cabinet door to get some Kool-Aid?

Answer: Big Worm's Head, threatening him for smoking his pot

The scene is one of Ice Cube's few non-dramatic turns. He starts experiencing hallucinations such as hearing his heart beating, thinking the phone is ringing, then opening the kitchen cabinet and seeing his nemesis Big Worm...all the while being yelled at by his friend Smokey for "trippin'." Tucker really makes this whole scene come together.
9. Who could forget that well-known, pot-smoking scene from 1978's "National Lampoon's Animal House"? Pinto (Tom Hulce) visits Professor Jennings (Donald Sutherland) along with Boone (Peter Reigert) and his girl Katy (Karen Allen). Together, they get high, and while Pinto and Jennings talk philosophy, Boone and Katy sing a song. What song do they sing?

Answer: Hey, Paula

While Katy and Boone sing the song "Hey, Paula", Pinto is flabbergasted by the professor's take on humanism. Easy to do when you're stoned! Then, to add a bit of spice to the scene, Pinto asks to buy some pot from him. Not the types of activities we should see from college students...or professors! Incidentally, the song "Hey, Paula" was recorded by the singing duo Paul And Paula and released in 1962.

It reached number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1963.
10. Smoking pot while driving is not advisable. Just ask Dude (Jeff Bridges) from 1998's "The Big Lebowski". In the film, Dude accidentally drops the burning blunt on his lap, then tries to douse it with a beer. This bit of poor judgment leads him to crash his car into...what?

Answer: A trash receptacle

Dude is doing everything wrong. He's smoking dope, he's drinking beer, he's got his radio blasting a CCR tune, and he's worried he's being followed by a blue VW Beetle. Lucky for him the car didn't hit something worse! As it turned out, the car smashed into the receptacle on the left side of the street, rendering the car itself so damaged it was undrivable.
