Jake Lloyd is the only American to play Anakin. Prior to the role, he had guest starred on "ER" and "The Pretender". He also starred in "Jingle All the Way". Haley Joel Osment and Michael Angarano were the other finalists for the role. Freddie Highmore appears in "Finding Neverland" and "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory".

Hayden Christensen is Canadian and stands at one inch over 6 feet. Prior to "Star Wars", he appeared in "The Virgin Suicides" and "Life As a House". In between episodes II and III, he starred in "Shattered Glass".
After winning the role of Anakin, Hayden made lightsaber noises the first time he practiced with one in rehearsal, exactly as Ewan McGregor had done when he first took on the role of Obiwan Kenobi. George Lucas informed him they would do a better job with sound effects in post-production.

David Prowse was never seen onscreen without the Vader costume. He is a weightlifting champion and stands at 6'7". George Lucas felt he would best fill out the Vader costume, but did not want Vader to have a British accent, so he cast a different voice actor. In fact, David didn't know his voice had been dubbed until he saw "A New Hope" in the theatre.
Peter Mayhew plays Chewbacca, Phil Brown played Uncle Owen in "Star Wars: A New Hope" and Warwick Davis played Wicket in "Star Wars: Return of the Jedi". (Interesting note: Vader is the Dutch word for father.)

Bob is the most legendary swordfight trainer/choreographer in Hollywood. He has contributed to all three "Lord of the Rings" movies, "The Princess Bride", "The Mask of Zorro", "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl", "The Three Musketeers", "First Knight", "Die Another Day" and "The Parent Trap", as well as others. He got his start as Errol Flynn's fencing instructor.

Sebastian Shaw, the British Anakin, appeared in nearly forty movies and TV shows, as well as being a distinguished stage actor. He was given the small role of Anakin for "Return of the Jedi", but could not tell anyone about it until the film was realeased to keep it a secret.
Kenneth Colley played the part of Admiral Piett, Timothy M. Rose played Admiral Ackbar and Jeremy Bulloch played the part of Boba Fett.

George Lucas made the choice to replace Sebastian Shaw in the final celebration scene on Endor for the 2004 DVD release. He thought it would provide more continuity between the first three episodes and the original trilogy. But George Lucas neglected to tell Hayden Christensen about this.

He didn't find out until doing an interview after the DVDs were released. You would think that George would have replaced Alec Guiness with Ewan McGregor as well, but no.

Orson Welles had been in about 70 movies when "Star Wars" was being filmed, including "Citizen Cane", "Catch-22" and "Waterloo" as well as being known as a well-known director. George decided Orson's voice would be too recognizable, so he went for a lesser-known actor instead. Orson did, however, do the voice-over commentary for the original "Star Wars" trailer. Peter Mayhew was actually offered the part of Darth Vader, but he wanted to be a "good guy".

"Spaceballs" includes characters like Lone Starr (Han Solo), Barf (Chewbacca), Princess Vespa (Princess Leia), Dot Matrix (C3PO) and Yogurt (Yoda). It is a Mel Brooks film where Dark Helmut and President Skroob of Spaceballs kidnap Princess Vespa so they can use her as ransom to steal all of the air from Planet Druidia.
