Answer: Emory University

In his first flashback from his time in Alaska, it captions on the screen that he graduated from Emory two years before. Graduation scenes featuring Emile Hirsch (the actor portraying McCandless) were actually filmed at Reed College.

Chris makes his presence known by doing a jumping stomp up to the stage. It shows immediate evidence that Chris tends to do things his way, in efforts to defy convention.
2. Following his graduation, his parents (played by William hurt and Marcia Gay Harden) offer to buy Chris a new car. He flatly refuses, saying that his car is perfectly fine. What model car is he driving?

Answer: Datsun

His mustard color Datsun (specifically a Datsun B210, the model not specified in the movie) and about $500 is all he takes with him after he chooses to donate all of his life savings to Oxfam. He destroys all of his identification and leaves Atlanta after college in May without telling his parents his destination, in fact having the post office hold his mail until August to give him a head start from them.

He also adopts the name Alexander Supertramp, and later tries to get a new ID using this name.

His short time with them mends some friction that Jan and Rainey are experiencing. But upon Chris seeing that things are looking better for them and that he might be a third wheel, he leaves during the night.

Chris hooks in with a contract harvesting company and learns to operate a wheat combine. He works all parts of the wheat industry, and has deep conversations with his boss, Wayne Westerberg (played by Vince Vaughn) about abandoning society. But this job dries up instantaneously one day when his boss gets arrested for satellite piracy, a "side business" for Wayne.

He leaves South Dakota immediately to find his next adventure.

Once he finds out from the Parks and Wildlife people that he needs a license and an appointment wait of twelve years to paddle down the Colorado River, he just goes and does it illegally. He meets a Scandinavian couple who tell him that if he can circumvent the Hoover Dam, the Colorado river will take him all the way to Mexico.

He gets through a dam along the border, but discovers there isn't much in the way of a river once in Mexico. He loses his kayak to a sandstorm, and gets back across the border to the United States by way of customs, who has a number of questions regarding his lack of identification before letting him in.

The railroad police don't appreciate freeloaders riding their trains, and he is ripped off a train and beaten by one of the deputies. He is told if he was caught on the train again he likely would end up dead.

He suggests they do a duet at the nightly talent show later that night. She is very heartbroken she doesn't even get to say a real goodbye.

When Chris decides to leave, Ron drives him north 100 miles. But then he offers Chris an alternative plan, that he adopt Chris as his grandchild. Chris does not turn him down, but wishes to talk about it after he comes back from Alaska.

He had gotten some instruction from one of his fellow workers in South Dakota about how to preserve a moose or whatever large animal he may take down. He succeeds in shooting a moose, but he languishes in getting his fire ready in a a hurry, and maggots form while the smoking has started. He wrote that his killing the moose was the greatest tragedy of his life.

Sadly, Christopher McCandless (Alexander Supertramp) would succumb to the elements. It is reported in the end of the movie that he was found dead in the bus lying in his sleeping bag by moose hunters.
10. Throughout the movie "Into the Wild", you hear original music, sung and written by what Northwest USA musical icon?

Answer: Eddie Vedder

Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam fame wrote some skeletonic songs and gave them to director Sean Penn, song ideas he called "colors on a pallette that he could work with". He wasn't expecting much out of it, but Sean loved what he heard, he gave him freedom to go with what he had so far, and that was what layered many of the journey scenes you see throughout the movie.
