Robert De Niro has been nominated for several Best Actor Golden Globe Awards. Mitch is a tough detective who has been on the force for years. When his partner is shot during a drug bust that goes wrong, he shoots a camera because the cameraman would not turn it off. Because of this he has to do a reality show or face a $10 million lawsuit.

Eddie Murphy began doing stand up comedy when he was 15 years old, earning $25 to $50 a show. Trey is a patrolman who is just waiting for his break as an actor. His chance comes when the network is looking for someone to play opposite Mitch in the reality show. Trey gives Mitch tips on acting and Mitch teaches Trey about police work.

Chase decided to get Mitch a dog, so the audience will like him more. The dog is a retired drug dog, which is why his name is Powder. Mitch instantly dislikes the dog and Trey tries talking him into keeping Powder. When Trey starts making very annoying sounds at Powder, the dog growls. After this Mitch says, "I like his instincts", and decides to keep him.

William Shatner plays an actor who was on the cop show "T.J. Hooker". He is in charge of teaching Mitch and Trey how to be good TV cops. Shatner was also in "Miss Congeniality" and the original "Star Trek".

Mitch and Trey track down the bad guys to a gun show. While they are looking for them, Chase shows a picture of Varges. When Varges is spotted he takes Chase into a room and holds her hostage. Mitch and Trey have to push their guns under the door but Trey has a back-up that is very small. Trey and Mitch decide to put the gun into the tape spot in a camera.

They then talk Vargas into letting them bring in the camera. This is the first time they really worked as partners, without fighting or second guessing each other.

Answer: A loose change dish

Mitch had taken up pottery while in the middle of his divorce, but wasn't very good at it. He made him the dish as a present for passing the detective's exam. They are now partners and Mitch is dating Chase. Mitch and Trey no longer are followed by video cameras while on the job, because "Showtime" now has two new buddy cops... two females.
