Answer: The Bells of St. Mary's

In "The Bells of St. Mary's", Bing Crosby stars as Father Chuck O'Malley, a Catholic priest sent to help out at a run-down, New York, parochial school. While Father O'Malley thinks the school should be closed, the sisters disagree. With Ingrid Bergman starring as Sister Mary Benedict, the drama is lightened by the good-natured banter between them, and Horace P. Bogardus, played by Henry Travers, a businessman who just may be able to solve their dilemma. Based on a 1949 memoir written by Maria von Trapp, "The Sound of Music" is set in 1930's Austria. Naval captain George von Trapp is a widower with seven children - children who have rebelled against his lack of attention and affection by running off a series of governesses. Appealing to the local abbey for a new governess brings a postulant named Maria into their lives. And she brings to them a renewed sense of hope, love, music and fun. But, the annexation of Austria by the Third Reich throws their lives into upheaval, and danger darkens their new-found dreams. Starring Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer, Richard Haydn and Eleanor Parker, the movie was nominated for ten Academy Awards, and won five, including the Best Picture Award.

Answer: Nuns on the Run

1990's "Nuns on the Run" follows two small-time crooks trying to escape, not only from their own gang, but also a drug dealing Triad - after they have stolen the Triad's money. Complicating their escape, Brian's girlfriend is also after him, and her actions put her in danger from both the Triads and the gang. Hiding out in a nunnery, and dressed as nuns, Hope and McManus are on the run.
Starring Eric Idle, Robbie Coltrane, Camille Coduri and Robert Patterson, the movie was written and directed by Jonathan Lynn.
The movie's tagline is "The Story of an Immaculate Deception".

Answer: The Nun's Story

In "The Nun's Story", Audrey Hepburn plays Gabby Van Der Mal (Sister Luke), a young woman who decides to leave the comfort of her upper-class family home to enter a convent. Her desire to become a missionary nurse treating the natives in the Belgian Congo, is thwarted at first, and her struggles to contain her stubborn streak and keep her vow of obedience cause her, and others, to doubt her suitability for a nun's life.

When she finally does arrive in the Congo, her dreams are not quite met, and her life is complicated by the brilliant Dr. Fortunati, played by Peter Finch.

A dramatic look at faith, dedication, compromise and loss, the movie included a number of gifted actors, including Dame Edith Evans, Dame Peggy Ashcroft, Dean Jagger and Mildred Dunnock. The movie was based on a book written about a Belgian nurse named Marie Louise Habets.

Answer: The Blues Brothers

Based on characters created for the television program "Saturday Night Live", "The Blues Brothers" stars John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd, and is set in the Chicagoland area.
When Jake Blues is released from prison, he and his brother Elwood go back to visit the Catholic orphanage where they were raised. There, The Penguin tells them that the orphanage will close if $5,000 in back taxes is not paid within 11 days. Deciding to raise that money by putting their band back together, the brothers declare themselves to be 'on a mission from God'. Unfortunately, their mission is complicated by police chases, angry Nazis, a bazooka-wielding woman, a vengeful country band and plenty of music.
When "The Blues Brothers" was released in 1980, it set a record for the number of cars destroyed in a movie - 103 in total. That record was broken in 1998, when 104 cars were wrecked in "Blues Brothers 2000".

Answer: The Singing Nun

"The Singing Nun" stars Debbie Reynolds as Sister Ann, a naive but enthusiastic and good-hearted nun. She is assigned to Samaritan House, located in Ghent, to be trained for missionary work in Africa. But her musical talent catches the notice of Father Clementi, played by Ricardo Montalban, and her life suddenly takes a different path.
The movie is based on the real life of the Belgian nun who recorded the hit song "Dominique", which topped the charts in several countries towards the end of 1963 and beginning of 1964.

Answer: Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison

Set during World War II, the movie features Robert Mitchum as Marine Corporal Allison, who has been left adrift in the South Pacific after his submarine was attacked by the Japanese. He reaches an island, with a sole inhabitant - Sister Angela, played by Deborah Kerr. For a time they are alone, exploring the island, and their developing relationship. But, the Japanese arrive to set up a camp, and suddenly the war, and reality, is very much back in their lives.
The movie is based on the 1952 novel "Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison" by Australian novelist and journalist Charles Shaw.

Answer: Two Mules For Sister Sara

Clint Eastwood stars as Hogan, a mercenary who has agreed to help a group of Juarista rebels attack a French fort, in exchange for a percentage of whatever money or goods they manage to obtain. On his way to meet the rebels, he comes across a woman being attacked by bandits, and rescues her. Sara, played by Shirley MacLaine, tells him that she is a nun helping the rebels, and enlists Hogan to take her to the their camp.

Their journey, and partnership, is less than peaceful, but full of action, danger and surprises.

Answer: Nacho Libre

"Nacho Libre" stars Jack Black as Ignacio, a monastery cook whose passion is masked luchador wrestling. He is often looked down upon by the other monks, and treated shabbily, but the orphans adore him -- and he adores them. When Sister Encarnacion, played by Ana de la Reguera, arrives, Ignacio decides that he can show her how he feels, win her affection and approval, and help the orphans, by becoming a luchador. Success, however, is far from guaranteed.

Answer: The Trouble with Angels

"The Trouble With Angels" stars Hayley Mills and June Harding, as boarders at a Catholic school in Pennsylvania. Rebellious and high-spirited, the girls keep the Mother Superior, played by Rosalind Russell, on her toes. Over the course of three years, the girls pull countless pranks on the nuns. But as time passes, their resentment and juvenile attitudes gradually give way to respect and admiration.
A sequel, "Where Angels Go Trouble Follows!", also starring Rosalind Russell as Mother Superior, was released in 1968.
