Forest Whitaker won the Best Leading Actor award at the 79th Academy Awards, held in 2006. Before filming the movie, director Kevin Macdonald discussed the idea of the movie with Ugandan president, Yoweri Museveni. MacDonald commented, "They wanted this story to be told. They didn't feel prejudiced against us because we were foreigners wanting to tell their story - they were very generous, and the president gave us carte blanche and even allowed us to film in the parliament building while parliament was in session. We also had the co-operation of the army and we were allowed to close down the main street in the city."

"Becoming Jane" told the story of the celebrated English writer, Jane Austen, before she was famous. James McAvoy played Thomas Lefroy in the movie. Jane was the youngest daughter in her family. She enjoyed writing. Her family wanted her to marry Mr. Wisley, who was the heir to Lady Gresham's fortune.

However, Jane preferred Thomas, whom she met at a ball. They even planned an elopement. When Jane found out that the elopement would destroy Thomas's reputation, she called off the plan. Several years later, Jane was reunited with Thomas, and she learned that Thomas was married to another woman. Thomas's daughter was Jane's avid reader. Jane also learned that Thomas named his daughter after her.

In the movie, James McAvoy wore three-inch lifts in his shoes. He was 5'7 tall, while Anne Hathaway, who played Jane Austen, was 5'8.

The movie "Atonement" was based on the novel of the same name written by Ian McEwan. In the movie, Robbie Turner, played by James McAvoy, was Cecilia's family's gardener. The innocent Briony witnessed the incident from her window and thought that Robbie was a sex maniac, as she told her cousin, Lola. Things got worse when she saw Robbie together with Cecilia in the library. Her naivety prompted her to make the wrong judgment that Robbie was attacking her sister. When she gave a false testimony to the police, Robbie was arrested for a crime that he did not commit. Robbie was then released from the prison when he joined the army. He and Cecilia longed for each other, but Briony's wrong judgment kept them apart.

When Briony learned the ultimate truth about the terrible incidents that happened to Robbie and Cecilia, she decided to "unite them together" in her novel; hence the title of the movie, "Atonement". She dedicated her 21st, which was also her last novel, to Robbie and Cecilia, who would have lived a different life.

During the shooting of the movie, the Dunkirk beach scene involved as many as one thousand extras. The director of the movie, Joe Wright, revealed in an interview that shooting the scene was one of the toughest challenges. James McAvoy also revealed in an interview that the script of the movie was one of the best that he had ever read. The movie was nominated for the Best Picture award at the 80th Annual Academy Awards, but it lost to "No Country for Old Men". However, it won the Best Original Score award.

The movie was co-produced by Reese Witherspoon, who played Annie, Penelope's best friend in the movie. The movie was set in the US but it was filmed in the UK. Despite being born in Scotland, James talked with an American accent in the movie.

Answer: Wanted

The movie "Wanted" was loosely based on a series of comic books written by Mark Millar. Wesley Gibson (played by James McAvoy) hated his mundane job. He had panic attacks and he took medication to control them. However, little did he know that the disorder was actually a form of superpower ability.

After Fox recruited him, she told him more about his father. Wesley then received harsh training and took order from the Fraternity's leader, Sloan (portrayed by Morgan Freeman). Soon, Wesley learned the ultimate truth about the identity of his real father and he decided to go against the order of Sloan.

The movie was directed by Timur Bekmambetov from Russia. James McAvoy buffed up for his role in "Wanted". During the shooting of the movie, he injured his knee and ankle.

Answer: The Last Station

"The Last Station" was based on a novel of the same name by Jay Parini, written in 1990. The movie told the story of the celebrated Russian author, Leo Tolstoy (portrayed by Christopher Plummer). During the last few years of his life, Tolstoy decided to put all his works and writing into the public domain, an act which was supported by his friend and disciple, Vladimir. However, Tolstoy's wife, Sofya (portrayed by Helen Mirren), had a different view. She thought that her husband should not do so as this would leave his family in poverty.

The character of Valentin Bulgakov, played by James, played a central role in this movie. He spent some great time with Tolstoy and he even accompanied him on his deathbed.

James' real life wife, Anne-Marie Duff, played Tolstoy and Sofya's daughter, Sasha in this movie. James McAvoy was cast for the role of Valentin by the director after seeing his great performance in "The Last King of Scotland" (2006).

The animated movie "Gnomeo & Juliet" was based on the famous play "Romeo and Juliet" by William Shakespeare. James McAvoy voiced Gnomeo while Emily Blunt lent her voice to Juliet. Gnomeo was from the blue garden gnomes while Juliet lived together with her red garden gnomes.
