Answer: Sleepy Hollow

Johnny Depp plays Ichabod Crane, the strange and deluded investigator sent from New York to unravel some mysterious killings, involving decapitations, in the small town of Sleepy Hollow. Here he uncovers the case of the headless horseman who is played by Christopher Walken. This film is another of Tim Burton's wonderful creations.

Answer: Benny and Joon

He plays Sam who imitates his idol, Buster Keaton. In this film, Sam is won by Joon in a game of poker. This leads to all sorts of goings on, like Joon throwing Sam out for "cleaning the house" and Sam's unusual methods of cooking, including making grilled cheese toasties with an iron, and making mashed potatoes with a tennis racquet.

This is a great film and with the brilliant performances alongside Depp by Mary Stuart Masterson as the mentally ill Joon, Aidan Quinn as her brother, the very patient Benny, and Juilianne Moore as Ruthie.

This makes it high up on my list of favorites, and a definate must see!

Answer: The Brave

This is quite a slow moving film, where Depp's character, Raphael, agrees to give up his life to Marlon Brando. By doing so he gains money for his family, as they don't have such a good life, or much money.

Answer: Pirates of the Caribbean

Johnny Depp stars alongside Orlando Bloom, Geoffrey Rush and Kiera Knightley, in this fantastic comedy thriller. Depp plays Captain Jack Sparrow who has one of the best entrances in film's history. The amazing Jack arrives on a sinking ship and it looks like everything else he does throughout the film is on its way down too.

He gets into a lot of trouble, but always manages to scrape through and win in the end. (This is one of my favorite films of all time.)

Answer: Chocolat

Chocolat is a light-hearted romantic comedy about a woman, Vianne (played by Juliette Binoche) and her daughter Anouk, who open a chocolate shop in a small town during Lent. Roux, played by Depp, is a gypsy who also arrives in the town and befriends Vianne, causing people to single her out even more.

It's a happy ending though, as the townspeople learn to accept Vianne and the gypsies, and also, Anouk sets her invisible kangaroo Pantoufle free. Smiles all round.

Answer: Nick of Time

Gene Watson (Depp) has his daughter taken away from him, until he agrees to kill a top government official within the next 90 minutes. This quick moving film almost happens in the 90 minutes, as you watch it, and had me on the edge of my seat at some points. An excellent thriller, directed by John Badham.

Answer: Nightmare on Elm Street

A very young looking Depp, aged 20 in his debut, plays in this terrifying Wes Craven horror. His death is one of the bloodiest I have ever seen in film, and I have seen many scary flicks in my days. This is not one for the fainthearted!

Answer: Donnie Brasco

Depp stars as Joe Pistone a.k.a Donnie Brasco, an undercover cop who is meant to get involved with a particular gang to stop the crimes that they commit, but accidently makes friends with Lefty (Al Pacino) a gang member. It makes a very interesting film as it shows how his relationship with Lefty, his wife and his children changes and develops.

Answer: The Astronaut's Wife

This isn't my type of film (but Johnny was in it so I felt I had to watch it) but I found I really enjoyed it. This is a super natural thriller about Spenser Armacost, an astronaut who loses contact with earth whilst up in space. This leads to his wife becoming pregnant with twins, then giving birth to Evil. It is a complex but well written and performed film.

Answer: What's Eating Gilbert Grape?

This is an incredible film where Gilbert (Depp) has to cope with the whispers behind his back about his family. His mother, who once was the prettiest lady in their town, has now become very overweight after her husband hanged himself. Gilbert's younger brother Arnie (an outstanding performance by Leonardo DiCaprio) has a mental impairment. So Gilbert must pay full attention to him or, as happens in the film, Arnie gets into trouble and at one point is arrested. Also he must deal with all the housework.

He also holds down a job at a local store. On top of all this, he must cope with his problems too, like having an affair with an older woman, and falling in love with a traveller, Becky, played by Juliette Lewis. This is my favorite film ever, and I highly recommend it.
