Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Yes, well, we dream on a budget here, don't we?"

Answer: Finding Neverland

This line was said because Peter (Freddie Highmore) was having a hard time imagining the props as what they were supposed to be, due to his initial lack of imagination. It follows Peter's line, "That golden scepter is just an old hunk of wood." This movie is the story of J.M. Barrie, the man who gave us Peter Pan, and his inspiration for the play. Johnny Depp was actually the first of the cast members to sign on for this movie. Kate Winslet followed.
2. "We have murders in New York without benefit of ghouls and goblins."

Answer: Sleepy Hollow

Johnny Depp's character, Ichabod Crane, has come to Sleepy Hollow to investigate murders, reportedly by a headless horseman. This line is said to establish Crane's experience with murders. Reportedly, Depp based his character (Ichabod Crane) on Withnail, played by Richard E. Grant in 1987's "Withnail and I". Also, Ichabod Crane was supposedly a very ugly man and Johnny Depp wanted to add prosthetics to his own face to make himself ugly, but director Tim Burton wouldn't allow it. Burton wanted to base the character more on Crane's unattractive personality traits such as his eccentricity and squeamishness.
3. "That's right. All in alphabetical order, too."

Answer: Cry-Baby

Johnny Depp is talking about his father's murdering spree in this scene, his father having been the Alphabet Bomber. This role would begin Depp's career portraying off-beat characters, allowing him to avoid being typecast in future roles.
4. "Why would I want to send a person? They don't taste very good at all."

Answer: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

This line is said in the TV room of Willy Wonka's chocolate factory. Willy Wonka demonstrates the ability to send a huge bar of chocolate by rays to appear on TV. Then, the person watching TV can reach into the screen, pluck the chocolate bar out of the set and eat it.

It tastes just as great as any other Wonka Bar! Mike Teevee asks if a person can be sent across the room into the television. As we find out, that is possible, but not the same thing can be said of putting a person back through the other way! This movie is based on the children's book of the same name, written by Roald Dahl, about a chocolateer who, after closing his factory for several years due to spies, reopens and gives 5 children (chosen by finding golden tickets hidden in candy bars) the opportunity to visit and possibly receive the surpise gift of a lifetime.
5. "Why? Why would I want that? Why would I want bubble-gum?"

Answer: Once Upon a Time in Mexico

In this scene, a little boy selling gum offers a pack to Depp's character, Agent Sands. Obviously Agent Sands doesn't want any but the boy proves to be helpful later in the movie when Sands' eyes are removed. After Depp shot all of his scenes in 9 days, he didn't want to leave.

He convinced the director to allow him to play a priest that Antonio Banderas's character talks to. Depp uses his Marlon Brando impression for that character. This movie is the third installment in the "El Mariachi" movies which began with "El Mariachi" (1992) and continued with "Desperado" (1995). Depp plays an agent involved in a drug lord's plot to overthrow the Mexican government.
6. "Sometimes it just means forget about it."

Answer: Donnie Brasco

This line is said after a long rant from Depp's character, Donnie Brasco, where he's explaining what "forget about it" means. According to him, it can mean that you agree with something, that you disagree with something, that something's the greatest thing in the world and that it's also like saying, "Go to hell." The phrase "Forget about it" has become popular in entertainment as a catchphrase of the Mafia, sometimes even being used as a cliche statement. Depp's character is an FBI agent attempting to infiltrate the Mob.
7. "Me? I'm dishonest, and a dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest. Honestly. It's the honest ones you want to watch out for, because you can never predict when they're going to do something incredibly... stupid."

Answer: Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

This movie is full of funny and memorable quotes. This is said at one of the turning points in the movie (right after Captain Barbossa tells his pirates to "Take a walk."). Will Turner (played by Orlando Bloom) has been led to think that maybe Jack Sparrow (Depp) isn't on his side after all. Jack Sparrow says this line, grabs a sword from a nearby pirate and tosses it to Will, proving that he is on Will's side.
8. "I killed a mirror. And my shower door."

Answer: Secret Window

Poor Morton Rainey, he's scared out of his wits that someone is in his house, trying to get him. So he goes on the defensive and ends up being scared by a mouse, causing him to break his mirror and his shower door. "Secret Window" is based on a Steven King novella and involves a best-selling author (Depp) who gets accused of stealing a manuscript from a crazed man who demands answers! Depp's character's name comes from MORTON's salt, whose motto is "When it RAINS it pours."
9. "I'll come 'round sometime and get that squeak out of your door."

Answer: Chocolat

As we see in the movie, Johnny Depp's character does, in fact, come to Vianne's (Juliette Binoche) house and get the squeak out of her door! It's mostly a light-hearted comment to establish the ease and attraction between the two characters. This was the first of two movies Johnny Depp starred in for which the plot was based on chocolate, the second being "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" in 2005. Depp has said he does not like the taste of real chocolate but prefers the cheap kind that Easter bunnies are made of.
10. "And then she took me to the back room where she took off all her clothes."

Answer: Edward Scissorhands

Of course, Edward [Scissorhands] is such an innocent that this line is delivered matter-of-factly and he doesn't realize what a shock it will be to Dianne Weist's character (Peg). Depp proves his diversity as a physical actor, having the leading, title role in this film with only 169 words throughout its entirety. For this role, Depp reportedly had to lose 25 pounds. One day on set, Depp even collapsed from heat exhaustion, as they were filming in extreme temperatures and he was wearing the leather costume.
