Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What fruit is Tristan eating in the first 30 minutes of the film?

Answer: He is eating an apple.

When the distraught knights are told they must leave for a final conquest, our hero is eating his apple with his knife. The knights have stopped at Hadrian's wall which they man against the Woads.
2. In the opening speech, what does Lancelot say?

Answer: "better they had died that day"

Plot spoiler: Lancelot is the first to speak and last to die in the film. In many texts, Lancelot lives on to eventually have 'relations' with Guinevere, however our Lancelot doesn't get that far in this film.
Lancelot's opening speech leads us into how and why the young boys were ripped from their Sarmatian families to join the Roman armies as knights. Lancelot also says that the Romans believed the Sarmatian horseman to be the best ever fighters, this is why they were saved.
3. How does Tristan aim so well?

Answer: He aims for the centre.

During the beginning of the movie (at Hadrian's wall), the knights are playing a relaxing game of darts (with knives of course.) Tristan is the best with the bow and arrow of all of the knights.
4. From whose point of view do we see the knights first enter the movie?

Answer: The falcon

We see them through the eyes of Tristan's loyal pet, his falcon. We see the falcon in several scenes, including at the entrance of Hadrian's Wall. At the ending of Lancelot's opening speech, Lancelot introduces Artorios, or Arthur. We then witness the knights on hilltop, riding towards their victory.
5. Bishop Germanius refers to himself as what?

Answer: Ancient Dog

"Ancient tricks, for an Ancient Dog..." During the first battle scene where the Sarmatian knights battle with the Woads, the fake Bishop is murdered, leaving Bishop Germanius alive and well. This is the first and only time we hear Bishop Germanius refer to himself like this.
6. What does Cerdic say about Arthur?

Answer: "Finally, a man worth killing."

Cerdic's son, Cynric says, "Who is this Arthur?". This is when we first see the hideous Saxons, and Cerdic is speaking with the British traitor who eventually is killed by Tristan's bow. Although Cerdic is a barbaric killer, he is, like Arthur, a leader and a skilled fighter. So to Cerdic, this makes Arthur worth killing as they are both skilled fighters.
7. Who has noticeable tattoos on his body?

Answer: Tristan

Tristan has triangles and lines on his cheekbones. The viewer is not told what these represent, and in historical texts these tattoos are not identified. Also, the beautiful 'Isolt' or 'Iseuld' is not identified in this film either, she is Tristan's great love.
8. At the end of the film, with which hand does Arthur raise his sword?

Answer: Right

The lovely Guinevere and Arthur are married. The real King Arthur led his knights through his battles in approximately 452 AD. King Arthur and Guinevere signify the union of Woad (British) and Roman people as one race to live happily ever after in Britain by raising Excalibur, Arthur's sword.
9. This knight has light blonde to orange coloured hair, a beard, and fights with his sword. He is also brother to Galahad, who is he?

Answer: Gawain

History says that Galahad has no relation to Gawain, and Galahad is actually Lancelot's son. In the film, this fact is not interpreted. Galahad is said to be a product of Lancelot and the evil Elaine, who tricks Lancelot into sleeping with him. We often see Gawain and Galahad riding side by side for instance, when they are riding to rescue the Roman family who live north of Hadrian's wall.
10. With whom does Arthur wish to reunite in Rome?

Answer: Pelagius

Pelagius instructed Arthur through his path in history, while Merlin helped to raise him as a child. However, when Guinevere leads Arthur astray from the rest of the knights, it is revealed that she is Merlin's daughter. Arthur wishes to reunite with Pelagius to continue his teachings in freeing mankind. Later, we learn from Alecto, while on the run from the Saxons across the mountains, that Pelagius had been killed in Rome.
