Jimmy reads Joseph Conrad's 'Heart of Darkness', a movie about a man who adventures up a river into a dangerous world that he does not understand.

In the cargo hold are dozens of cages that the crew of the ship uses to store animals that they capture from throughout the world. Jack must find a cage of his own to sleep in because the ship has so few cabins for passengers. It is while he searches for a suitable quarters that he finds a large stash of chloroform, a substance that will become very useful later in the film!

While Mr. Denham is well aware of the existence of Skull Island, he does not know its exact location, having only a map whose authenticity is questionable. Several of the ship's crew have heard frightening stories about Skull Island, and they are extremely hesitant to go there. Denham has told his people that their eventual destination is Singapore, but he means to go to Skull Island.

Almost having reached the general area where the island is located, the captain changes course when he hears that Denham is wanted by the law. It is after this course change that the ship happens upon Skull Island. Let stage two of the adventure commence!
