Answer: Forrest Bondurant

During the first delivery of moonshine in the film, we see Forrest Bondurant and his older brother Howard taking the moonshine in while the youngest brother Jack stays with the car. A man approaches Jack with a knife, scaring him. However his brothers comes out at the perfect time. Forrest takes hold of the situation, and says this before making the man who threatened Jack pay for what he did.

2. "[The weapon] caught me off guard is all." What weapon does Forrest use against an attacker that shocks Jack?

Answer: Iron knuckles

After Jack gets threatened, Forrest takes off his hat, hides a set of iron knuckles behind him, and punches the man in the mouth, knocking out his teeth, leaving him on the ground spitting up blood. Jack was asked by Howard if he was fine, and Jack replies with that line. Seeing the shock in his eyes, the older brothers are making sure Jack is okay. Jack noted that he will always remember the sound those iron knuckles made when Forrest punched the man.

When introduced to the Commonwealth's Attorney Mason Wardell, Forrest also meets Charlie Rakes, Wardell's special deputy. Neither intimidated or compromising, Forrest watches Charlie Rakes' movements, and considers drawing his gun on Charlie. He chooses not to and makes the group leave.

After Mason Wardell and crew arrive in Franklin County, an evening meeting between quite a few moonshiners is held. Some want to do what Wardell has said and pay while "the getting is good". Forrest says this to his friend Jimmy, letting him know that he will pay no bloodsucker and never will.

Many are frustrated at Forrest's comments, but the Bondurant boys leave after Forrest gives his opinion.

5. "Where you headed with that bottle?" Howard asks this when Jack leaves with a jar of white lightning in his hand. Where does Jack go?

One day, Jack decides to leave his home at Blackwater Station and go into town to go to church. He goes on account of seeing the preacher's daughter, Bertha Minnix. However, in the middle of the service, the moonshine hits him, and he walks out of the church drunk while Bertha is trying to wash his feet.

6. "So you want to get into this racket, but I see you there, looking like somebody's punching bag!" Who says this to a bruised and beaten up character?

Answer: Forrest

Jack goes to see his friend Cricket Pate. Soon after arriving, Charlie Rakes and a few police officers show up. Charlie punches Jack and continues to beat Jack until he is almost unconscious. The officers do nothing, and let Rakes do what he wants. Jack then returns home with bruises all over his face. Upon seeing this, Forrest thinks that Jack does not have the grit to do what they do.

7. "It is not the violence that sets men apart. Alright, it is the distance that he is prepared to go." Which character gives this revelation?

Answer: Forrest

Jack tells Forrest that he doesn't think he can do what they do on account of him not being built like his two older brothers. Forrest tells him that it doesn't matter size or strength, but about how many times he will get up after falling and never give up. He says this also to give Jack a little encouragement.

8. "You're an outlaw Jack!" Which character gives Jack this compliment?

Answer: Bertha

When taking out Bertha Minnix for a drive, he decides to take her to the place where Jack and his brothers hide their stills. She is impressed, but decides to call him what he really is, in a strangely romantic way.

9. "I ain't never seen nothing as beautiful as you right here. I wish I had the words to tell you." Who says this, talking to the woman he is courting?

Answer: Jack

After Bertha tells Jack that she is impressed with what he does (even though illegal), he tries to flirt with her and tell her how beautiful she is. Jack thinks that he is not doing a good job, but Bertha says that he is doing just fine, and she kisses him.

10. "Jack's gone off half-cocked!" Who is it that made Jack go off "half-cocked"?

Answer: Charlie Rakes

Charlie Rakes finds Cricket at the Bondurant's stills and decides to kill him. He is trying to kill all moonshiners, and after finding Cricket, kills him in the woods outside the still. Howard lets Jack know about it, and early the next morning, Jack grabs his shotgun, hops into Cricket's car and drives to the Franklin County Line where Rakes is. Forrest then tells Maggie this and prepares to leave.

The Bondurant brothers, along with a few other moonshiners, engage Rakes and the other officers there, ending with Jack and Howard killing Rakes. Jack and Forrest get shot, Forrest badly, but after weeks in the hospital, Forrest walks out and marries Maggie. Howard gets hitched shortly after, and down the road, Jack marries Bertha.
