Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who's the actor that plays the part of Randy in this movie?

Answer: Nicolas Cage

"Valley Girl" was one of the very first films Nicolas Cage appeared in; his third, in fact, according to the Internet Movie Database (IMDB) website. His first was in the ever popular teen film, "Fast Times At Ridgemont High," for which according to IMDB, he had a small bit part in of which most was cut.

Then he landed a part in the movie "Rumble Fish," followed by his part in "Valley Girl" which subsequently was released first and is said to have been the one to truly launch his career.
2. What are the names of the four "Valley Girl" girlfriends in this movie?

Answer: Julie, Stacey, Loryn, and Suzi

Julie is played by Deborah Foreman, Loryn is played by Elizabeth Daily, Stacey is played by Heidi Holicker, and Suzi is played by Michelle Meyrink whom, by the way, also starred in the film "Revenge of the Nerds" as Gilbert's nerdy girlfriend, Judy. I was shocked to read that bit of info from the IMDB website for I would have never known that Suzi and Judy from these movies were played by the same actress. Now that I do know that, however, I can see the resemblance of her two characters; though, they are still quite very different looking, I think.
3. Which of the following lines did Julie say to Tommy when she broke up with him at the mall?

Answer: "It's like I'm totally not in love with you anymore Tommy, I mean it's so boring."

After Julie said that to Tommy, she then took off the bracelet he had apparently given to her for she gave it back to him and then walked away. Tommy then yelled to her, "Not too cool Julie, like I won't be bummed out." Although Tommy is cute in this movie, I personally think his character is...Well, like such a total dweeb ya know!
4. The very first time Randy and Julie saw each other was at Suzi's party?

Answer: False

Randy and Julie actually first saw and caught each other's eye at the beach earlier in the day on the same day of the party.
5. Suzi gave a party at her house that was said to be the social event of the season. The question here is do you remember her street address that was given out for this party?

Answer: 23727 Sierra Vista

You can hear this address repeated several times at the beach on the same day of the party, once by Loryn telling a friend and then again when Fred told Randy.
6. Julie caught Tommy making out with one of her friends at Suzi's party?

Answer: False

Tommy did make out with Julie's friend, Loryn, at Suzi's party, but Julie never caught them. In fact, throughout the entire movie, she never even found out or knew anything about it. Like she would have really cared, though, right? I mean like she was just so totally fed up with Tommy anyway, for like she stated in the movie, "Like he's so juvenile, Stacey." and "God, he's such a total pukeoid."
7. Where at in Suzi's house did Randy hide and wait for Julie?

Answer: bathroom shower stall

Tommy started a fight with Randy when he spotted him talking with Julie at the party. Randy then got physically thrown out of the party during the fight by Tommy's friends, and he and Fred then left. But Randy was just a tidbit mad and told Fred he really liked that girl and wanted to know who in the he** that guy who started the fight thought he was. Randy then decided that nobody was going to tell him who he could or could not score with and they headed back to the party.

When they got back, Randy climbed into the bathroom through its window where he hid in the shower stall waiting for the off chance that Julie would sooner or later come into the bathroom. All his waiting through countless others using the restroom finally paid off when he peeked over the shower door and sure enough there she was freshening up in front of the mirror.

He then took her by surprise when she looked up and through the mirror saw him standing directly behind her. Gosh, what a way to get a girl's attention, huh?
8. What school did Randy and Fred say they went to?

Answer: Hollywood High

Randy told Julie he went to Hollywood High when they were at the club that Randy took Julie and Stacey to in his part of town. Fred responded that he went there too when he heard Randy tell Julie this. Julie and her friends, of course, went to Valley High; I mean like for sure, they are the "Valley Girls" like don't ya know? :)
9. How many places was Randy seen working at to get Julie's attention and win her back after her break-up with him?

Answer: 2

Randy was seen working at the movie theater collecting their tickets as Julie and Tommy and Stacey and her date were going inside. He was then seen working as a car-hop who brought them their food and where Tommy told him he forgot their french fries and Coke. Randy responded with a funny line that goes something like this, "Ahhh, well Peter Piper picked a pepper, I guess I did, ha, ha, ha!" and he then deliberately spit his chewing gum on Tommy. I don't know exactly what it is about this scene that makes me laugh so much, but it just does every time I watch it! Too, too funny, I think!
10. Was the following a tagline for this movie? "He's hip. She's hot. He's the punker she loves, but that her friends love not."

Answer: No

No, I made that one up. The actual tagline for this movie went like this: "She's cool. He's hot. She's from the Valley. He's not."
11. "Who" finds "who" in bed with Skip?

Answer: "Suzi's mom" finds "Suzi" with Skip

Skip was Suzi's love interest. The only problem with that was that Skip was more interested in Suzi's mom than Suzi at first. That was until he went over to Suzi's hoping to find her mom, and ended up finding Suzi instead, and finding her in the shower at that.

The next scene showed Suzi's mom coming home and walking in on Skip and Suzi in bed. So, I suppose one could assume that Skip must have had a change of heart once he saw Suzi naked in the shower!
12. In the very beginning of the movie, the girls are shown shopping at the mall buying hundreds of dollars worth of clothes and stuff. What method of payment are they shown using?

Answer: Plastic (Credit Cards)

At the very beginning, you can clearly see a Mastercard being scanned once and a Visa being scanned twice.
13. Tommy had made reservations for him and Julie at the Valley Sheraton for after the prom. Did these reservations end up being kept at the end of the movie?

Answer: Yes

Randy rescued Julie from Tommy at the prom after he and Tommy had yet another fight. Randy and Julie ran out of the prom after starting a food fight and hopped into the limo that Tommy had rented.
The driver drove off and assuming that Randy and Tommy were one of the same, asked Randy this, "The Valley Sheraton, Sir?" Randy responded with a simple, "Yeah." So, by this, it is implied that the Valley Sheraton reservations were indeed kept, but not by Tommy and Julie, but by Randy and Julie.
14. Now a couple of questions on a few of the tunes in this movie: What's the name of the song that's heard at the opening of the movie and during the sleep over at Suzi's house?

Answer: Girls Like Me

This is a fun song sung by Bonnie Hayes and the Wild Combo. It's off of her first album "Good Clean Fun" that was released by Slash Records in 1982. Another hit from that album was "Shelly's Boyfriend," for which including "Valley Girl" has been in a few movies. Bonnie Hayes and the Wild Combo went on to record a second album entitled "Brave New Girl," however, I read she and her band folded shortly thereafter. From my research on Bonnie Hayes, I found that she has gone on to be a renowned songwriter and has written songs for artists such as: Huey Lewis and the News, Robert Cray, Bonnie Raitt, Cher, and Bette Midler.
15. And last: This song is playing during the bit of the movie where Randy and Julie are shown spending all their time together falling more and more in love, and it also starts playing at the very end of the movie. What song is it?

Answer: I Melt With You

Sung by the band, Modern English, "I Melt With You" became their biggest hit that dominated MTV and radio, and that also became the epitome of the perfect pop songcraft of the '80s. It's a song that lots of people just loved and still do love (myself included), that I personally believe will therefore always be remembered.
