Meg Ryan actually had three roles in 'Joe Vs The Volcano' (1990). She played DeDe, Angelica Graynamore and Patricia Graynamore, starring alongside lead actor, Tom Hanks and playing his love interest. In 'In The Cut' (2003) she played Frannie, a writing professor who gets entangled in a murder with Detective Malloy, played by Mark Ruffalo.

The other three actresses (Sandra Bullock, Julia Roberts and Reese Witherspoon) don't have any connection to the films I mentioned, but they are some other of my favourite actresses.

2. This actor had a role in 'Joe Vs The Volcano' (1990). He is famous for having received two Best Actor Oscars in consecutive years. He also starred in 'A League Of Their Own' (1992). Who is he?

Answer: Tom Hanks

It is Tom Hanks who I'm looking for. In 'Joe Vs The Volcano' he plays Joe, who is diagnosed with a terminal illness and has to sacrifice himself to the Volcano Gods by jumping into one. Tom won his Oscars in 1993 with 'Philadelphia', and in 1994 with 'Forrest Gump'. He is the first actor ever to have won in consecutive years. He starred in 'A League Of Their Own' (1992), playing Jimmy Dugan - the manager of the baseball team. He starred alongside fellow actors Rosie O'Donnell and Bill Pullman.

All the actors listed (Lloyd Bridges, Dan Hedaya and Barry McGovern) did star in 'Joe Vs The Volcano' (1990), but not in 'A League Of Their Own' (1992).

3. This actor starred in 'A League Of Their Own' (1992). His character was called Bob Hinson. He has also played an American President in a 1996 blockbuster about an alien invasion. Which actor am I talking about?

Answer: Bill Pullman

Bill Pullman played the American President in 'Independence Day' (1996). He also starred in 'A League Of Their Own' (1992), playing Bob Hinson, who was married to Geena Davis's Dottie Hinson. He starred alongside fellow actors Rosie O'Donnell and Tom Hanks.

All the other actors mentioned have played American Presidents as well. Harrison Ford played the President in 'Air Force One' (1997). Kevin Klein played the President in 'Dave' (1993). Michael Douglas played the President in 'The American President' (1995).

4. This actress starred in 'A League Of Their Own' (1992). She played a character called Doris Murphy. She is known for her comedic timing, slightly rotund figure and playing Betty in 'The Flintstones' (1994). She also starred in 'Now And Then' (1995). Who is this actress?

Answer: Rosie O'Donnell

Although all these actresses (Madonna, Geena Davis and Lori Petty) all starred in 'A League Of Their Own' (1992), only Rosie O'Donnell starred in the other two films.

'A League Of Their Own' (1992) is a film about a group of women who take over the men's role in a baseball team at the start of the Second World War. They face the challenge of being accepted in the team and leading their lives as women of the '40s. O'Donnell starred in 'A League Of Their Own' (1992), playing Doris Murphy, one of the women trying to play a man's sport. She starred alongside fellow actors Tom Hanks and Bill Pullman.

In 'Now And Then' (1995), she played the older Roberta, and starred alongside fellow actress Rita Wilson.

5. This actress starred in 'Now And Then' (1995), a film about a group of old friends who reminisce about their childhood. The actress I'm looking for married a fellow actor who happened to win a couple of Best Actor Oscars. She also starred in 'Mixed Nuts' (1994) with Steve Martin. Who is she?

Answer: Rita Wilson

All these actresses (Demi Moore, Melanie Griffiths and Thora Birch) starred in 'Now and Then' (1995), but the one who married a multi-Oscar winning actor is Rita Wilson.

Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson were married in 1988, after meeting on the set of 'Bosom Buddies' - a TV show that ran from 1980 to 1982. To date (03/2005), they are still happily married.

'Now and Then' (1995) is a story of four women (Chrissy, Roberta Teeny and Samantha), who reminisce about their childhoods; and Rita plays the older Chrissy. Rita collaborated a second time with director Nora Ephron, for the film 'Mixed Nuts' (1994), and fellow actor Victor Garber.

Demi Moore was married to another famous actor - Bruce Willis - until their divorce in 2000. Melanie Griffiths married Antonio Banderas in 1996. Thora Birch remains unmarried as of 03/2005.

6. This actor had a minor role in 'Mixed Nuts' (1994). In it, he played an irate neighbour. He's most famous for his role as a dirty professor in 'Legally Blonde' (2001), but he also starred as Goldie Hawn's character's ex-husband in 'First Wives Club' (1996). What is his name?

Victor Garber also had a starring role in 'Titanic' (1997) and went down with style on the doomed ship. He only had a minor role in 'Mixed Nuts' (1994), which is a confusing comedy about the linked lives and loves of several people. This film also starred Rob Reiner, another actor from my favourite movie!

Steve Martin had the starring role in 'Mixed Nuts' (1994). Luke Wilson had the starring role in 'Legally Blonde' (2001). Dan Hedaya was divorced from Bette Midler's character in 'First Wives Club' (1996).

7. This actor starred in 'First Wives Club' (1996). In this role, he played Goldie Hawn's character's Plastic Surgeon. He directed 'When Harry Met Sally' (1989). He has also starred in 'Postcards From The Edge' (1990).

Answer: Rob Reiner

Rob Reiner has also directed such films as 'Alex and Emma' (2003), starring Luke Wilson and Kate Hudson (daughter of Goldie Hawn), and 'The Sure Thing' (1985), starring a very young John Cusack.

In 'When Harry Met Sally' (1989), in the famous orgasm scene with Meg Ryan, it was Rob Reiner's mother who said the famous line, "I'll have what she's having!".

'First Wives Club' (1996) is an uplifting film about three women who are left by their husbands, and try to get revenge. They then decide to start afresh and help other women in crisis. In 'Postcards From The Edge' (1990), Rob played Joe Pierce, in a small cameo role.

8. This actress starred in 'Postcards From The Edge' (1990) about an alcoholic actress who is forced to live with her annoying mother. She had a minor role, and played a wardrobe mistress. She may also be seen playing Congresswoman Libby Hauser in 'Legally Blonde 2' (2003). She also played Margaret Addams (married to Cousin It) in 'Addams Family Values' (1993). Who is she?

Answer: Dana Ivey

Dana Ivey played Margaret Alford/Addams in 'The Addams Family' (1991) film as well. In this film, it was the first time her character met Cousin It, where they fell in love. In the sequel, 'Addams Family Values' (1993), she reprised her role as wife of Cousin It.
Congresswoman Libby Hauser, as you may remember, in 'Legally Blonde 2' was opposed to "Bruiser's Bill", but once Elle (Reese Witherspoon) found out that she had been in a sorority as well, the two became friends.

Anjelica Huston starred as Morticia Addams in 'Addams Family Values' (1993). Sally Field played the back-stabbing Victoria Rudd in 'Legally Blonde 2' (2003). Meryl Streep had the leading role of Suzanne Vale in 'Postcards From The Edge' (1990).

9. This actor had a minor role in 'Addams Family Values' (1993). He played the doctor who delivered Morticia's baby. He had a large role in 'Frasier' the TV series, playing Niles. He was also in my favourite film. Whats his name?

David Hyde Pierce played younger brother Niles to Kelsey Grammer's Frasier for a whopping 11 years!

John Mahony played their father in the TV series, and Ted Danson played Sam Malone - he was originally in 'Cheers', but did have a guest appearance on 'Frasier'.

10. So now you've hopefully picked all the actors who star in my favourite film, and now it's time to guess what film that is. It is a timeless romance. It was directed by Nora Ephron. It was released in 1993. It had four different locations in the story - Chicago, Baltimore, New York and Seattle. What is my favourite film of all time?

The main stars - as mentioned in the first nine questions, are - Meg Ryan (Annie Reed), Tom Hanks (Sam Baldwin),Bill Pullman (Walter - Annie's Fiance), Rosie O'Donnell (Becky - Annie's Friend), Rita Wilson (Suzy - Sam's friend), Victor Garber (Greg - Sam's Friend), Rob Reiner (Jay - Sam's friend and work collegue), Dana Ivey (Claire Bennett - Sams fussy client), and David Hyde Pierce (Dennis Reed - Annie's brother).

For the minority who haven't seen the film, it is a timeless romance about Annie and Sam finding true love in each other, despite living on opposite sides of the country. Chicago is where Sam lived with his wife before he moved to Seattle, Baltimore is where Annie lives and New York is where the two finally get together.

Not mentioned in this cast list is Ross Malinger who played Jonah Baldwin (Sam's son) and Gaby Hoffmann who played Jessica (Jonah's friend). These two deserve a mention as they were so cute and played their characters beautifully!
